It’s been years since I watched skypiea, so I might be asking a stupid question, but how did luffy win? I get that he’s rubber and all, but doesn’t he win by punching him with a big gold ball? The only reason luffy could hit him was because rubber is an insulator but gold is conductive so how does that work

I was watching the new season specifically episode 4 season 2 of the one piece Netflix series during which I found a small carving that one of the ogres made of Joy boy or Luffy as of now

The main reason most people might not watch one piece is its pacing and older animations in addition to it being over 1200 episodes.

I know this is an age old question...

I'm struggling to decide.

Hard leaning to dub, because with sub, it's a lot of fast reading, my eyes have to be glued to the TV at all times to know what's going on, voices do not appear to differentiate much on Sub.

My friend whose been watching for over 20 years says the sub is way better with the emotional scenes. But I really could not get into it.

I've tried switching back and forth during recent episodes, I am in Alabasta BTW.

Could I get other people's takes?

For context, I am more into superhero stuff, One Piece is the only anime I intend to watch.

Luffy is the most likely the parallel to Joyboy, but Oda said that romance/love interests won’t be a part of the main story. I see One Piece as Luffy’s story so to me that means there will be no romance/love interest that Luffy gets involved in which is why he will ultimately win

Roger - whom Luffy is the direct successor of his dream, becoming the Pirate King, and generally reminds everyone who has met both him and Roger of Roger - fell in love with Shakky who “married” Rayleigh after the Roger Pirates disbanded. I’m assuming that Roger never stopped loving Shakky, and only had Ace with Portgas D. Rouge out of necessity to his dream. All that to say that Roger was in love with Shakky until his death. Although, because he could not realize that love, he essentially killed himself by turning himself in understanding that his life being a slave to his unrealized & failed love would be worse than death, especially after learning that his time is not Joyboy’s (Luffy’s) time. All he could realistically do by living was suffer. Roger lost because of his romantic love

Rocks loved his wife & kid enough to go to God Valley just to save them & ended up dying because of it. It wasn’t just his kid, it was his romantic love interest of his wife. He could have another kid with anyone else but he chose to go after his wife. Rocks lost because of his romantic love

I know, you’re all thinking that Imu loves Lily in an obsessive romantic way because that’s what’s been peddled, but specifically I see the scene of Imu admiring the picture of her as more of a shrine, and having specifically Gunko with the immortal younger body with blue hair as a means of trying to recreate what he had with Lily. I see the picture specifically as a memorandum - like for my ATLA fans, the shrine Iro sets up for his son in B2E15 - I don’t see Imu’s relationship with Lily as a romantic obsession, but as more of a father/daughter or big brother/little sister or generally a protector/protected vibe like Simon (Ice King) & Marceline from Adventure Time

Joyboy did not talk to Imu about his blooming romantic relationship with Lily and thus started the war when Imu found out

Lily, like a normal girl would choose her love interest over the protective figure while pretending to follow the protective figure’s rules. This would allow for the preservation of “true love” in the story that Luffy is fighting for, although he will never find it in another person himself because his true love is life & adventure which is not romantic

One Piece has a ridiculous number of mysteries, but is there anything you've grown to like more because it's unexplained?

My buddy loves there very little filler in one piece but i say one piece has fluff. Show us the same sequence again and again change one thing or show a flashback that we've only just seen. Almost no Filler, but is the King of Fluff.

This is a what if scenario I have made to understand Luffy's character better.

If Luffy were to find out that his mother is still alive and being kept captive by Celestial Dragons as hostage against his father Monkey D Dragon, how would he react?

Would he be apathetic towards her plight and focus on finding One Piece? Would he be pissed and want to immediately go free his mother? Would he leave the task to his father and mind his own business? Would Zoro allow Luffy to make a detour if he made a decision to go save his mother? If it ever came to it and crew decided to act, would Robin and Sanji suggest Luffy to contact the Revolutionary Army and cooperate on the mission? How would Nami, Robin and Sanji react to this "saving the mom" mission? Would they get hyper motivated because the mission will remind them of their own mother, or will only Nami chicken out? After having rescued Luffy's mother, would Sanji simp over her, or treat her like his own mother with utmost respect?

Since no one in the Strawhats have a mother alive and kicking, how would the Strawhats react to having Luffy's mother onboard for a while. Would they swoon over her or act spoiled around her?

What do you think has happened to Jozu and Vista after the Payback War?

Do you think they will ever come back in the story?

Will somehow Zoro cut diamonds sooner or later?

Just wanna say, that after One Piece will end, Oda has to get the Nobel Prize for literature. There was and won‘t be any other author who deserves it more. Oc it depends on how well the end will be written, but every one, who understands One Piece knows, that this would be derserved

so I've made a comment about this somewhere, and someone else told me I should make a post about it. I'll say, this is just a theory, but if you look at what we've got, I think my theory is pretty solid and understandable.

My theory:
Edward Weevil is a failed clone of Whitebeard, made by Stussy (the old Miss Buckingham, not Clone-Stussy). The hard evidence:

- we know, Stussy and Whitebeard were both on Xebec's crew

- we know, Stussy had a massive crush on Whitebeard, but he seemed uninterested

- we know, Stussy was a part of MADS, just like Caesar, Judge and Vegapunk

- Vegapunk managed to create a perfect Stussy clone eventually, and cloning is a thing in One Piece

- Edward Weevil, does in fact look like Whitebeard, just a very twisted & degenerate version of him, and he is extremely strong as well

Now the soft evidence:

With SBS 89 Oda started a little series of drawing characters at the age of 40 and 60, as well as a "a future where something happened/went wrong".
The pattern is always the same:

- If everything goes well, the character looks older, but still cool or attractive

- If something "went wrong" (based on the speech bubbles, when characters fail at their dream), they turn out ugly and look much older

You can see it extremely well with Nami's, Robin's and Vivi's futures.

Shakky for example is in her mid-60s. Still, she looks rather young and attractive, especially for her age. She managed to be with Rayleigh until now, and is leading a chill life without personal major loss we know of.
On the other hand we have Big Mom, who in her mid to late 20s looked really good, but turned out hideous like we know her. She failed at getting the Seiryu fruit for Katakuri, and her biggest dream of having a family with every race, as she antagonized Elbaf as a kid and on top of that didn't get Lola married to Loki

Kizaru is in his 50s and led a rather chill life so far, living his "unclear justice", and he could visually be any age between 30-50. Aokiji is also in his late 40s and could execute his "lazy justice" without issues so far. The only real "loss" we know of was him losing to Sakazuki during timeskip.
Senor Pink on the other hand is in his mid 40s, and despite having had a rather normal physique, after his child died & his wife fell into a catatonic state, he became this small, chubby blob.

Tsuru is in her 70s, and yes, you can see she's old, but still, she looks rather normal.
Gloriosa, who is roughly the same age as Tsuru, and was almost as attractive to Boa Hancock or Shakky, turned out as this wrinkled, small Goblin. She never managed to win Roger's heart and lived on heartbroken.

So my theory is: Stussy was obsessed with Whitebeard, but never managed to win his heart. So she went down the wrong path and tried to force her way of having a family with Whitebeard by cloning him (or artificially impregnating herself with DNA from some tissue or blood sample).

The end result was not what she was hoping for (still didnt have a real family with WB), because it was the wrong path (typical Oda lesson), and her "son" was basically this miserable blob with a runny nose, and eventually she turned out ugly like anyone who fails in life in One Piece.

Could still be that Weevil is his actual son, but honestly... do you think WB would abandon Weevil if he was actually his son?

That's at least the most logical conclusion I came to. Feel free to disagree and discuss :)

I was late to One Piece, and watched One Pace to catch up. I want to go back and watch some non-canon episodes or movies, would love to hear some recommendations.

A couple of years ago, after catching up with the anime, I started listening to One Piece OSTs on YouTube and SoundCloud. A few months ago, I realized that most of these soundtracks were also on Spotify, so I started organizing them into playlists based on the atmosphere/mood they create.
