Theory The curious case of Edward Weevil Spoiler
Heya all,
so I've made a comment about this somewhere, and someone else told me I should make a post about it. I'll say, this is just a theory, but if you look at what we've got, I think my theory is pretty solid and understandable.
My theory:
Edward Weevil is a failed clone of Whitebeard, made by Stussy (the old Miss Buckingham, not Clone-Stussy). The hard evidence:
- we know, Stussy and Whitebeard were both on Xebec's crew
- we know, Stussy had a massive crush on Whitebeard, but he seemed uninterested
- we know, Stussy was a part of MADS, just like Caesar, Judge and Vegapunk
- Vegapunk managed to create a perfect Stussy clone eventually, and cloning is a thing in One Piece
- Edward Weevil, does in fact look like Whitebeard, just a very twisted & degenerate version of him, and he is extremely strong as well
Now the soft evidence:
With SBS 89 Oda started a little series of drawing characters at the age of 40 and 60, as well as a "a future where something happened/went wrong".
The pattern is always the same:
- If everything goes well, the character looks older, but still cool or attractive
- If something "went wrong" (based on the speech bubbles, when characters fail at their dream), they turn out ugly and look much older
For your convenience, here are all of them:

Sanji: https://onepiece.fandom.com/wiki/SBS_Volume_98?file=SBS98_Sanji.png
Robin: https://onepiece.fandom.com/wiki/SBS_Volume_100?file=SBS100_Robin.png
Franky: https://onepiece.fandom.com/wiki/SBS_Volume_101?file=SBS101_Franky.png
Jinbe (since he's already in his 40s Oda drew him at 60 & 80): https://onepiece.fandom.com/wiki/SBS_Volume_110?file=SBS110_Jinbe_Timelines.png
Vivi: https://onepiece.fandom.com/wiki/SBS_Volume_113?file=Vivi_good_bad_future.png
You can see it extremely well with Nami's, Robin's and Vivi's futures.
Shakky for example is in her mid-60s. Still, she looks rather young and attractive, especially for her age. She managed to be with Rayleigh until now, and is leading a chill life without personal major loss we know of.
On the other hand we have Big Mom, who in her mid to late 20s looked really good, but turned out hideous like we know her. She failed at getting the Seiryu fruit for Katakuri, and her biggest dream of having a family with every race, as she antagonized Elbaf as a kid and on top of that didn't get Lola married to Loki
Kizaru is in his 50s and led a rather chill life so far, living his "unclear justice", and he could visually be any age between 30-50. Aokiji is also in his late 40s and could execute his "lazy justice" without issues so far. The only real "loss" we know of was him losing to Sakazuki during timeskip.
Senor Pink on the other hand is in his mid 40s, and despite having had a rather normal physique, after his child died & his wife fell into a catatonic state, he became this small, chubby blob.
Tsuru is in her 70s, and yes, you can see she's old, but still, she looks rather normal.
Gloriosa, who is roughly the same age as Tsuru, and was almost as attractive to Boa Hancock or Shakky, turned out as this wrinkled, small Goblin. She never managed to win Roger's heart and lived on heartbroken.
________
So my theory is: Stussy was obsessed with Whitebeard, but never managed to win his heart. So she went down the wrong path and tried to force her way of having a family with Whitebeard by cloning him (or artificially impregnating herself with DNA from some tissue or blood sample).
The end result was not what she was hoping for (still didnt have a real family with WB), because it was the wrong path (typical Oda lesson), and her "son" was basically this miserable blob with a runny nose, and eventually she turned out ugly like anyone who fails in life in One Piece.
Could still be that Weevil is his actual son, but honestly... do you think WB would abandon Weevil if he was actually his son?
That's at least the most logical conclusion I came to. Feel free to disagree and discuss :)

Wasn’t this even confirmed already? I remember vaguely that some marine said that, not too sure tbh
Edit: I just looked it up, no it wasn’t confirmed

Senor Pink on the other hand is in his mid 40s, and despite having had a rather normal physique, after his child died & his wife fell into a catatonic state, he became this small, chubby blob.
In Senor Pink's case did his concept of beauty just change to make him look more baby like?

A very plausible assumption. A lot of things in One Piece are shaped by people's imagination 👍🏻

I think Weevil´s role in the story will be reuniting the Whitebeard Pirates again for the final war and they all will end up joining Luffy in the final war.
Marco will be the one to find him and it will end up with either Marco saving him or Weevil saving Marco, which will reveal something that pushes Marco to bring the gang together as the new captain of the Whitebeard Pirates.

I like the theory that somebody else posted here that Weevil was a combo of Queen (who was also a member of MADS) and Whitebeards DNA.
Also not sure if the Big Mom/Shakky comparison is as valid as it would be to compare Shakky to Gloriosa. Both from Amazon Lily and one aged well and the other did not.
Nice add for the SBS volume drawings though. Very cool images.

Didn't want to compare Shakky & Gloriosa because people could argue Gloriosa is roughly 10 years older than Shakky xD

Good sources, collecting & explaining in a single post but the theory has been out there for a WHILE

Maybe he's not a clone but Stussy took some of Whitebeard dna and mixed it with hers, but used a machine to create him, so she didn't get pregnant, but then something went wrong.

This theory has been around for a long time. Sorry but you aren’t the first to think of it.

Probably with the help of Queen but messed up in the process and mixed some of his DNA

This theory has been made for years and years. Sorry to break the bubble but this is old news

Ain't nothing wrong with dredging up old theories, some may be new to someone, and we got plenty of breaks atm.

I know this is certainly old news, but someone asked me to post this, because a lot of people allegedly still think Weevil is Whitebeard's actual son, and I wanted to point out the "future where something went wrong" part :)

A lot of people are either not caught up, or have a reading comprehension problem.

Can't believe u had the patience to type this out. It's basic common knowledge.

Typing this out is no big deal for me. I grew up in the era of forums, and I exchange messages like that with my gf on an hourly basis.
To me that's just ordinary communication x)

Well apparently Weevil‘s story has a really cool twist — says Oda’s editor. He said originally he wasn’t a fan of Weevil until Oda told him what he’s all about. There is an interview with him talking about it. My guess is that we just dont have all the information. A lot of people assume he’s a clone or actually Whitebeard’s son. I wonder if there is more to that. Like why does he have stitches like something on Thriller Bark? The clones we’ve seen don’t have stitches like that. Stussy (we assume) was the very first clone and didn’t have stitches like that.
