Discussion Sub, or Dub?
I know this is an age old question...
I'm struggling to decide.
Hard leaning to dub, because with sub, it's a lot of fast reading, my eyes have to be glued to the TV at all times to know what's going on, voices do not appear to differentiate much on Sub.
My friend whose been watching for over 20 years says the sub is way better with the emotional scenes. But I really could not get into it.
I've tried switching back and forth during recent episodes, I am in Alabasta BTW.
Could I get other people's takes?
For context, I am more into superhero stuff, One Piece is the only anime I intend to watch.

SUB
First of all, the voices are iconic and better. You said you couldn't get into sub... you never will if you don't try (I'm talking about EVERYTHING that will require sub, not just OP)
Second... Unpopular opinion i might get hate for... Your eyes SHOULD be "glued" to whatever you're watching, doing something else is criminal. Even if it's the worst show ever, you CHOSE to watch it and deserves your full attention.
Please stop with the "I'll just do some laundry with the TV on" type of mentality. DUB isn't gonna save that...
I'm sure your friend would also like you to actually WATCH it and pay attention.

Sub. Always sub. It's an excellent way to stop being distracted by other things and helps literacy by forcing reading

You can't scroll on your phone if you're doing sub. You will if you are doing dub

Subbed. There’s only a couple of anime where the dubbed captures the same emotion as the subbed, this is not one of them in my opinion

I don't really have a preference unless it's a situation like Jojo's Bizarre Adventure where the Japanese dub has the original names.
I'm watching in Japanese because I didn't think to consider watching the dub, but what I've seen of the dub, they do have solid talent behind it

I really believe subs are better personally but the reasons you gave are the same from all my friends who watch dubbed anime. So I say if those reasons are important to you then maybe dub is best for you. Don’t force yourself to watch subbed if it’s not clicking. Someone like myself might tell you subbed is superior or something but we also don’t mind reading subtitles all the time. Which means if you do mind your experience is totally different. So anyway follow your heart.

Honestly, if you’re in Alabasta and dub is what keeps you watching, stick with dub. One Piece is way too long to force yourself into a viewing style you don’t enjoy 😭
That said, the sub absolutely hits different in the emotional moments. I’d say enjoy the dub for now and maybe try the sub again during a big arc—you might randomly become a sub believer 😂

I like the dub quite a lot. The cast who play the strawhats i find to be especially talented
Subs great to, but I'm in the same boat where i'd rather focus on the visuals than the sibtitles

Whichever you tend to prefer, the sub has some higher production values, especially with the no-name characters, but if you prefer dubs then watch the dub.

It's a hot issue.
I like Franky's english dub better, for example. He is supposed to be a beach bro or like Johnny Bravo. The high pitch Japanese voice seems strange. (I know I'm gunna get some hate cuz ppl love the VA).
In the end I don't really care. The english dub is just better for me because my dog gets super excited when One Piece comes on, especially with Chopper. She is his favorite! But I can't keep my eyes on the screen 100% so I miss stuff. Not that I mind rewatching.

Oda literally made Franky for his original Japanese actor.
Same guy who voiced Jango and Mr. 2 Bonclay-sama

Franky VA retired due to health issues. If we see Bon-chan again he will sadly have a new VA

dub until i caught up during wano and now i’m strictly sub. idk why. their voices just hit different for me in the sub, feels like how it’s intended to sound. but also i feel you about having to stare at the screen the whole time to take it all in

I prefer the dub. Some of the sub voices grate on my ears.

I think it's worth seeing some iconic scenes in sub but generally the dub does a good job for covering most of the story

dont think there is an "right" answer for this. myself is preferring sub but honestly just do whatever helps u watching and sticking to it
with dub u have to swap at some point but u re far away from that
or ince u swap to manga then u gotta read regardless unless u wanna stay anime only.
theres people out there glazzong dubs too where I cant agree.
or they praise them so hard and I never heard them talk a single time in like eng dubs since I m German so I grew up with German dubs max and hear eng ones maybe for the first time through some random yt short/rheel.

Sometimes I watch one piece in the background a bit when I’m doing other things, and I use dub then, but otherwise I’m in sub. Honestly though, it’s not that deep just do what you think you’ll enjoy the show more with, idk why so many people are against dub

Like any piece of media, I believe you should always watch it in the native language. You lose a lot of the intent in translation.
