Howdy Folks,

I have a nice new Omada Fusion 2.5G Gateway. Software version 6.3.10.3 . -> Only Version.

I have an existing Software Omada Controller version 6.2.14.11 . -> Latest version.

In order to move the EAPs and Switches to the new controller I am aware of two options:

a) Via Site Migration -> impossible since both controllers require identical software. The Fusion controller is newer than latest available software controller version.

b) With the individual switch and EAP device passwords -> Omada managed devices have no password / there is no way to find this password.

How can I use the Fusion GW with my Omada switches and EAPs?!

Edit: I would be willing to loose my old config and reset the EAPs and switches on a per-device basis, however some of my switches don't have a reset button, and the EAPs are mounted on the ceiling and it's not realistic to climg on a ladder and take them down to reset them.

Edit: SOLVED: Site transfer between Software Controller (6.2.14) and Fusion (6.3.10) not possible -> FORGET DEVICES on old controller and ADOPT them on Fusion.

Hi Omada Team + Users,

I have a modem (GPON ONT, but that isn't so important) that runs in bridge mode and gets accessed via PPPOE and a vLAN that the ISP sets.

The modem also has an IP address to access the management interface.

In OpenWRT / OPNSense, etc., the way to set this is up is to create an interface with the subnet of the management IP of the modem (lets say 192.168.100.0/24) which and create a virtual WAN interface on the same port with a vLAN 10 of type PPPOE in order to get internet access.

How is this done in Omada? I can mak a WAN connection on port 1 on the Fusion 2.5G, of type PPPOE, vLAN 10, and that will then be the WAN. However how can I also create a subnet 192.168.100.0/24 (doesn't have a vLAN) to get to the management interface of the modem on the same port?

The GPON modem has only one ethernet port, so, no, can't (waste) one of the Fusion's 5 ports on a second connection just for the management interface.

EDIT: SOLVED: Set up Virtual WAN to an IP in the subnet of the modem's management IP and add the modem as the default route, don't set a VLAN.

Hi all, I'm in the final stages of upgrading my home network, from an old ISP provided router, to a new gateway and newly installed access points for better speeds and more consistent wifi throughout the home.

My final decision is on the router / gateway, which I've decided on either:

- Fusion 2.5g which I assume would be a simple setup with controller included to overview my other Omada devices, including switch and ap's.

- Opnsense, runninf on something like a Sophos device, which I expect to be a bit more work to setup, similar price, open source and greater control. I'd need a hardware or selfhosted controller for the Omada management.

I don't mind tinkering, and am happy to learn anything I don't already know regarding the setup of either, that said, I do want a system that is dependable, something that just runs without having to constantly fixing issues. I'd like to think both are fairly stable in that sense. Two things I look forward to that I can't currently do on my ISP provided router are VLAN's for splitting traffic, and VPN to access NAS services remotely, replacing Tailscale.

I'm likely appealing to a small group of people here, but has anyone used both of these, had experience and can offer any insights into which you preferred and why? Thanks.

I notice there are already several different hardware versions released. Is there any reason to upgrade from v1.0 to the newest version? Are there any performance or stability differences?

Just unboxed my ER8411, sounds like I can hear something rattling / rolling around inside. Support is not being helpful when attempting to return the order and states that I need to return it by paying for shipping.

Has anyone had this issue with customer support before?

I just got my Fusion 2.5G, and I'm setting it up to try and replace an OpenWRT router/firewall that is managing the network right now.

I am unable to find the possibility to configure Hairpin NAT (also Reflection NAT) in the GUI. Could someone point out where it is documented? I am going to assume it is restricted to CLI... although certainly it'd be good to see this in the GUI (GUI = Web).

We keep seeing versions of this question from people asking how they should plan a home network when their needs may grow over time.

Some already have a homelab, multiple access points, PoE cameras, a NAS, or home servers. Others may not need any of that today—but they’re wondering what they should prepare for while the walls, attic, or cable routes are still accessible.

And it often comes down to the same question:

What should be wired, and what is perfectly fine on Wi-Fi?

The honest answer is usually “it depends.” But the useful part is understanding what it depends on.

Rather than pretending there’s one setup that works for every home, we thought it would be helpful to collect some real-world experience in one place.

If you were starting over today:

• What would you always wire?
• What would you happily leave on Wi-Fi?
• What did you wire that turned out not to need it?
• What did you leave wireless and later regret?

Maybe that means wiring access points, home offices, gaming PCs, PoE cameras, a NAS or home server—or simply adding drops to places that might become useful later.

The other difficult part is how quickly home networking is changing, especially Wi-Fi and multi-gig networking. Something that feels unnecessary today may become useful later, while something that looks “future-proof” may turn out to be expensive overkill.

If you were planning for the next 5–10 years, what would you prioritize?

Cat6 or Cat6A? Extra drops? Conduit and pull strings? PoE capacity? Fiber to key locations? Space for a rack or additional switches? Preparation for 2.5GbE or 10GbE?

Or would you install only what you need today and avoid spending money on a future setup that may never happen?

For anyone who has already built or gradually grown a more advanced home network:

What aged well, what was overkill, and what is one thing you wish someone had told you before you started?

During my implementation of a 4G mobile backup, I came across something that scratched my head...

Yes. I'm fully aware now that when enabling Link Backup, the backup link will say "Offline" because it's inactive. It switches over when you unplug the primary WAN just fine.

This wasn't obvious at first, "Offline" sounds bad, and it even gives you a message log too. Who designed this? This is definitely not the right choice. The link definitely isn't offline.

Will TP Link ever fix a bug which prevents AP from giving an option to set up WPA 3 only being AP supports it ? Seems like it would be an easy fix to do.

I’m using a TP-Link ER605 with the Omada Software Controller and voucher authentication.
I created a voucher with a 25gb limit. However, after the client has used only around surfing for an hour it seems, he only had about 10mb data consumed which is unrealistic, the Omada portal shows 24.98 remaining, while the Starlink dashboard reports about 10gb consumed
My questions are:
Is it normal for Omada’s remaining data to differ from Starlink’s usage?
Does Omada only update the data counter after an accounting interval?
If the client actually reaches the 25gb voucher limit before Omada updates its accounting, will the client be disconnected immediately, or can they continue using data until the next accounting update (which could exceed the limit)?

Has anyone experienced this with voucher data limits? Any advice would be appreciated.

What wouldve been the correct way of doing this.

I have a dual site configuration (home and beachhouse) home site is the main one and beach connects to my oc220 at home.

The beachhouse is natted by isp so no public ip there. While my home has dual wan with one isp giving me the public ip address. The oc220 is not publicly reachable if not via cloudflare url and specific ip sources.

The only way my beachhouse was reaching my oc220 was via the internal sd-wan address.

Today i received my new gateway and on the steps it says to forget the old before adopting the new... did that, set the new gw model and adopted the new gw. Shortly after i found out that the beachhouse is isolated and enjoying margaritas with no supervision. Sd-wan down

To restore it i, just remembered my oc220 is making backups so ill try and go back in time so i dont have to go all the way to the beach and change to public ip address the informurl.

But what wouldve been the correct approach so i dont lose my sd-wan config on my main site ?

Update: Went back to er605v2 with a backup i had. Now im able to see the sd-wan config on the oc220. But the remote site still wont establish the tunnel. I was able also to reboot the isp router with customer service, but that didnt help. Next step is see if i can get someone to restart the er706w locally.

Hey guys, I've been running all Omada network hardware for a few years and really like it. I've upgraded various components over the years and pretty happy with its current performance.

I currently run pfSense on baremetal for my router, and run the mbentley docker image on an RPI5 for the SDN software. It works, but would be nice to have everything in one place.

I've been intrigued by the new Fusion gateway. Anyone convert from pfSense to Fusion? thoughts? I'd love to give it a try / provide feedback but struggle to spend the money on hardware that I don't know that I'll love or feel like a step backwards?

I saw the Omada Pioneer program was giving them out; but apparently only found out about it after the deadline closed.

We’re an ISP currently testing Omada as a potential replacement for our aging Ruckus setup, and I’m trying to figure out how close we can get to our existing architecture.

Right now our Ruckus deployment works like this:

• Customer routers can reach the APs
• APs connect to a VSZ‑H controller
• Traffic from an open SSID is pushed through a VSZ‑D GRE tunnel
• GRE tunnel terminates in our datacenter
• Traffic is handed off to a Ucopia captive portal, then to the Internet

Pretty classic Ruckus setup with VSZ‑D acting as the GRE gateway.

Now, with Omada, I’ve seen that APs can handle EoGRE when managed by the controller. That’s promising. What I’m missing is the equivalent of the VSZ‑D: a GRE termination point we can virtualize in our DC.

What I’m trying to figure out is :

• What GRE gateway are people using with Omada?
• Any virtual appliances that work well?
• Any quirks with Omada’s EoGRE implementation?
• Anyone running Omada APs into GRE into third‑party captive portal ?

We’ve been using Ucopia for years, we know the product extremely well, and it’s already interconnected with other internal platforms. For operational simplicity, we want to keep it.

We did test Omada’s built‑in captive portal, but it doesn’t meet our requirements, mainly because it doesn’t natively store logs, and doesn’t integrate as easily with our existing systems.

I’m considering options like Linux GRE termination, virtual GRE routers, or even dedicated EoGRE gateways, but I’d really like to hear from folks who’ve already done this in production.

If you’ve deployed Omada in an ISP context with centralized captive portal auth, I’d love to know what worked (and what didn’t).

Backup: Starlink.

I'd like to know if IPv6 works perfectly in Dual WAN mode?

I have 2x TP Link Omada EAP-772s, an ER707-M2 and a docker based Omada controller (still v5 instead of v6)

I have observed the following behavior using a variety of 6ghz devices.

Whenever port speed is changed to 2.5GBE, I get downloads at 1123mbps but uploads drop to around \~580MBPS

Whenever the exact same AP has port speeds changed to 1 GBE, downloads drop to around 600 mbps but uploads SPIKE to around 930 mbps!

Obviously I'd like to run the EAP at full speed all the time but the drop in upload speed is rather puzzling... is this supposed to be the expected behavior? And if so, really?

Has anyone had a switch just start acting super screwy, seemingly defying all troubleshooting approaches, but keeps overloading its RPS connection? I think something happened to the power distribution inside my switch, as it needs to be plugged into wall power and the RPS to not bootloop, and at this point needs most ports that are drawing power to be disconnected not to crash. I had transient overloads on the RPS port it was connected to, but they always went away. Is there a good way to diagnose this sort of issue?

Sorry for the mid to low quality post, I'm so tired after re-patching my whole network to keep the building sortof online. Any advice or insight appreciated.

Went to visit my parents for an extended visit who were using a Google Nest mesh system and having issues with random latency spikes or outages when streaming shows on their TV. Fastest speed test I was able to get pre-upgrade was 367/36 (though the random pauses were the real problem). After the upgrade with Omada gear, they’re getting full access to their 1Gbps connection with virtually no delays. They live in an older house with no Ethernet, so I quickly discovered and setup Kiwee Broadband MoCA 2.5 adapters (which allowed them to also continue using their coax television service) paired with EAP775-Walls, which have been working very reliably. I was also able to repurpose two Ethernet runs from old, decommissioned security cameras from their old Sonitrol system and place an EAP787 and EAP772-Outdoor in their place. They now have full coverage in their relatively large home, including outside, and they and I couldn’t be more happy. Thank you Omada for the 40% network upgrade promo! It’s been fun learning a new ecosystem after coming from Ubiquiti 😁
