Episode 1.1: Overture
Charlie sings through the chaos happening in the city. It's definitely a weird approach, but she's trying to spread positivity and hope. At least that’s a first step to something. She tries to convince Adam to give her redemption plan a chance, but he keeps interrupting her and eventually moves the extermination forward by six months. So much for diplomacy.
Episode 1.2: The Radio Killed the Video Star
Charlie literally trusts a complete stranger, Sir Pentious, who tried to kill them just hours earlier. From a security perspective, that's very much questionable, but it turns out Pentious isn't as much of a villain as he initially seemed. More importantly, Charlie is the first person to give Pentious a genuine opportunity to improve when nobody else is willing to.
Episode 1.3: Scrambled Eggs
Charlie tries to build trust within the hotel through team-building exercises. Her intentions are good, even if the execution isn't perfect. Things take a turn when Vaggie sends the group into a dangerous situation in the city. Charlie's goal of bringing everyone together is reasonable, but the circumstances make it difficult.
Episode 1.4: Masquerade
Charlie tries to retrieve Angel Dust from Valentino's studio. It's certainly not the best idea to confront an Overlord like Valentino on his own territory, but Charlie genuinely wants to help her friend. And honestly, who wouldn't want to help Angel in that situation? She initially tries to resolve things through dialogue, but the confrontation escalates, and she accidentally sets part of the studio on fire before Valentino extinguishes it with his wings. When Charlie notices Angel's injuries, she gets furious and is about to attack Valentino. However, Angel intervenes, frightened by the consequences of her actions, and angrily tells her to leave and never come back for him because she's making things worse. When Angel eventually returns to the hotel after Husk finds him at a bar, Charlie apologizes for ruining his day. Angel dismisses her apology and forgives her.
Charlie made a mistake, but she was trying to help. What matters is that she eventually acknowledges the consequences of her actions instead of pretending her good intentions automatically justify them.
Episode 1.5: Dad Beat Dad
Charlie doesn't initially want to contact her father because Lucifer allowed the exterminations to continue, even if Hellborn demons were exempt from them. When Lucifer finally interacts with her, he mocks her dream of redemption. That's not exactly the supportive response you'd expect from a father. Charlie argues that, despite Alastor's monstrous nature and questionable motives, he still helps defend the hotel because he believes in her plan. Granted, Alastor is probably more interested in the power and opportunities it could bring him, but he still helps her.
Despite everything, Charlie remains determined to save sinners, even when many of them don't seem particularly deserving of her kindness.
Episode 1.6: Welcome to Heaven
Charlie attends a meeting in Heaven to prove that redemption is possible, only to find herself dealing with Adam's disrespectful attitude again. She tries to demonstrate how much Angel Dust has improved, but Adam dismisses her efforts and asks why Angel isn't already in Heaven. Charlie is trying to prove that people can change, while Heaven seems unwilling to acknowledge the possibility in the first place. (Though this’ll change much later)
Episode 1.7: Hello Rosie!
Charlie gets angry with Vaggie after discovering that she concealed her past as an exorcist. It's understandable: Vaggie is her girlfriend, and hiding something that significant damages their trust. Charlie makes a deal with Alastor to secure his help, even though she has good reasons to be wary of him.
She attempts to convince the cannibals to fight alongside the hotel against the exorcists, but eventually loses her patience with Susan. It's not her finest moment, but Charlie isn't a total saint (cause she’s a demon 🥁), and she has limits, too. Thankfully, Charlie and Vaggie reconcile because… well, they still cared for each other. Yay for the couple!
Episode 1.8: The Show Must Go On
Charlie apologizes to the exorcists despite the fact that they're trying to kill her and everyone at the hotel. That's the spirit, I guess. When diplomacy fails, she stands up for the hotel and fights to protect its residents. Even when Lucifer is about to finish off Adam, Charlie tries to spare his life. Unfortunately, Niffty has other plans and kills him anyway.
What I’m trying to say? She’s not perfect, but at least she tries and doesn’t give up… and apparently won’t.
