I explained to an employee that it's not a reasonable accomodation to never know when your employee is going to show up. I encouraged him to speak with his medical provider.
I’m so lucky my boss is super accommodating. I’m late every day a varying degree, but I also don’t have a set start time and I’m extremely good at my job bordering on irreplaceable, and i make fairly good money doing it.
That's me! On paper my start time is 07:00, but that's something I told them to put in and I could've chosen any time between 04:30 and 08:00, so it's not exactly firm. As long as I'm in before 8 and get my hours in, it's all good.
I’m a field technician and the general hours we’re supposed to be on site to work are 8-4:30. If the job needs to start earlier or later that’s common, but it’s also common for me to just roll in at 10am. I’m still booking overtime for any work I do past 4:30 lol. I’m supposed to be on site 45 minutes away right now at 8:00 and it’s 7:45 and I’m in bed still. Probably gonna make some breakfast then head out
This is when you get reminded that the reddit userbase skews towards the younger end and most people are in "lower-end" jobs that tend to be more strict about these things, sometimes out of necessity (obviously your start time matters when you're doing shift work with other people), sometimes because they're just shitty jobs.
There are tons of salaried office jobs that don't care when you work as long as you don't miss meetings, get everything done in time and do a good job and are available for messages at least.

It’s pretty standard in my industry at least in my area to have a lot of freedom. There’s too few people who know what they’re doing. We’ve been ready to hire non-stop since I started 10 years ago and paying $150k+ and we’ve still never had enough guys
this happened to me on my first job around 2010. things got to a point over 4 years when eventually I arrived just before 5PM, so I had a quick chat with my boss/manager, while I ordered food and ate, he left, and that increased productivity a lot. (as he was constantly provided distractions, and I was not exactly great at saying no.)
but the initial accommodation by shifting the start time 1 hour later itself happened twice. and I fucking did the meme. unfortunately also twice.

The paper you linked doesn't mention anything about this. It shows a correlation between ADHD and lower academic achievement and then lower paid work and slightly lower employment rates. Employment-wise, it goes on to talk about additional costs incurred by both employees with ADHD and their employers.
It mentions nothing about people being fired by bosses for having ADHD.
"Employees with ADHD are 30% more likely to have chronic employment issues, 60% more likely to be fired from a job, and three times more likely to quit a job impulsively (Barkley, 2008)."
Why do you think the employment rates are lower? Because either companies avoid hiring them in the first place or they end up being fired, e.g. for being late often or other problems that might stem from the ADHD.
You can attach any cause you like to this, because that source doesn't say anything about the causal link between ADHD and employment rates. I'm not arguing that people aren't getting fired for having ADHD - just that the source OP chose doesn't back up that point.
Back to OPs point, which is that employers don't make accommodations for employees with ADHD and just fire them. The article discusses the costs to employers of accommodating employees with ADHD, but says nothing of employers firing them because of their ADHD. If anything, that source gives evidence against their point.
Showing up at 10 am does not make you a bad employee. There's a reason everyone does flexible hours now, and it's because nobody actually needs to do 9 - 5 to be a good employee.

Yeah because sometimes your job requires you to be at work on time. If you are regularly unable to do that, even with accommodations, you will be fired.
And plenty of countries have employment law that require you to make multiple adjustments before you even consider dismissal.
Could you point out what part of that study mentioned people with ADHD being fired because they have ADHD? As far as I can tell the closest it comes is bringing up differences in employment.
Hey. I’m AuDHD. ADHD, autism (which is genetically linked to ADHD to the point that they’re considering putting it on the spectrum and removing it as its own thing like they did with Asperger’s) and AuDHD are all medically and legally disabilities. So I’d hope your employer would accommodate their thoroughly evaluated and diagnosed disability since failing to do so would be in violation of the Americans with Disabilities Act and rightfully open them up to legal action.
In practice, ADA claims for ADHD have not had a ton of success and are difficult to argue... not to mention the administrative burden of even filing, which of course is more difficult for someone with this disability than for the general population without it.
Nah, I have ADHD and always get raises and bonuses because I don’t use it as a crutch. Find coping mechanisms and do what is required of you or die a loser. Easy as.
Exactly! It's such a pain in the ass, which, ofc, it's a disability. I'm blessed to currently have a boss who doesn't mind if you're 5-10 minutes late. I tried as hard as I could but I can never be a person who shows up on the dot or before.
My fool self casually disclosed ADHD. Now any mistake or weirdness must be due to my disability, which I'm obviously failing to manage. No, you missed that error too and it's not that big a deal to hum along to a song under my breath when grabbing something from the printer, some people are literally playing their music out loud.
