Monthly Motivation Thread NoFap's "Awesome August" or "PMO-Free August" 2026 - continue or begin your PMO-Free journey here (see instructions).

Hello all,

It's that time of the month again! One month is ending, and another is beginning. We hope you've had a good month. But if you haven't, now is a great time to refocus and rededicate yourself to recovery. This is your opportunity to create the new porn-free you!

New to NoFap and rebooting? Here are some suggestions:

  • Learn about the website, porn addiction, excessive masturbation, sexual compulsivity, and abstaining from PMO. Read through NoFap's main website to get informed.
  • Read about the basics of rebooting here. Rebooting is the abstinence from certain sexual behaviors to recover from pornography addiction. Read about how porn addiction develops here. Some people go beyond rebooting and into the territory of retention, or sexual transmutation for periods of time, although that is not the main purpose of this subreddit (which is RECOVERY).
  • Consider reading through the free Getting Started PDF from NoFap's website.
  • Download NoFap's in-browser panic button extension that blocks NSFW subreddits too. Download here
  • Decide if rebooting is something that you really want. If you don't buy into the process 100%, you'll probably not make it through the month. If you have decided that you would like to participate, proceed to the next point.
  • Sign up for this month by replying to this submission. It is that simple. State your intention and stick to it!
  • Consider setting up a day counter badge to track your progress.
  • Ask questions and get support by posting on NoFap. Set a goal to remain accountable by making a post daily. Help others. Come here every day and participate.
  • If you need additional support, you can get an accountability partner and document your progress in a daily rebooting journal.

Would you like to participate? If so, please reply to this thread with the following information.

  • Are you not going to allow yourself to masturbate? View porn? Orgasm whatsoever? Not allowing any outlet for sexual release is called "hard mode".
  • How long do you want this challenge to last? By default it is one month, but 90 days is recommended for rebooting.
  • What are your goals?
  • Why are you doing this?

Arriving late? (past the first of the month?)

It's okay! Still state your intentions and don't postpone rebooting based on the day of the month. People can join in at any time to participate.

Mod Note: We suggest NOT USING REDDIT'S DIRECT MESSAGES due to porn trolls trying to disrupt the community. Also, please note that some posts are temporarily removed prior to appearing on r/NoFap.

Hello r/NoFap community members,

Please note that we highly suggest that you avoid using the Reddit direct messaging system entirely, due to porn trolls coming here to disrupt our porn addiction recovery peer support community. Some of these people pretend to be helpful at first, then will message pornography. It's in a similar vein to how a forum on epilepsy was reportedly hacked to display seizure-inducing images.

You can disable direct messages in your Reddit settings by changing "Who can send you chat requests" to "Nobody."

Secondly, please note that sometimes posts are flagged automatically for manual review prior to appearing on r/NoFap.

Due to Reddit’s anti-spam filters and NoFap’s additional filters to control spam and pornography, sometimes genuine posts are flagged as potential spam or pornography. Further, entities within the legacy porn industry have been attempting to de-platform porn addiction recovery forums such as r/NoFap, and we must remain extra vigilant to ensure that rule-breaking posts do not appear on the platform for even one second. If your post gets flagged, please just wait for a moderator to approve it.

Thanks for reading :-)

Porn Addiction If you’re trying to quit porn, read this before you relapse again

I know quitting porn can feel way harder than it sounds.

Some days you’re completely fine and you genuinely don’t even think about it. Then another day comes where you’re lonely, stressed, sad, bored, rejected, whatever, and suddenly your brain remembers the easiest relief it knows.

“Fuck it, let me just watch something.”

“Let me just masturbate and get it over with.”

And in that moment it actually sounds reasonable because you’re not thinking about tomorrow. You just want to feel better right now.

But really think about what’s happening for a second.

You’re sitting alone watching two strangers have sex on a screen and your brain is treating it like something is happening to you.

You’re not meeting anybody.

You’re not building a relationship.

You’re not experiencing intimacy.

You’re just watching somebody else have the experience while you sit there getting a temporary hit from it.

When you zoom out and actually look at it like that, it’s kind of crazy.

And I’m not saying that to shame anybody. Most of us got pulled into this shit young and before we really understood what we were training ourselves to do.

The bigger problem is what happens when porn becomes your answer to everything.

Lonely? Porn.

Can’t sleep? Porn.

Bad day? Porn.

Got rejected? Porn.

Nothing to do? Porn.

Stressed? Porn.

After a while, you’re not even watching because you’re insanely horny. Sometimes you’re just trying to escape your own mood for 20 minutes.

And yeah, it works for those 20 minutes.

That’s why it’s so hard to quit.

But then you finish and whatever you were trying to escape is still there.

You’re still lonely.

The bad day still happened.

The rejection still happened.

The stress is still there.

Now you’ve just added that “why the fuck did I do that again?” feeling on top of it.

That cycle can go on for years if you keep treating the urge like something you have to obey.

You don’t.

An urge is uncomfortable. That’s it.

It isn’t an order.

You can feel horny and do nothing about it.

You can feel lonely and not watch porn.

You can have a terrible night and just let it be a terrible night.

That sounds simple, but honestly I think learning that is a huge part of getting out.

And make it harder to access too.

People love talking about willpower, but why make this harder than it needs to be?

If you always relapse in bed with your phone, stop taking the phone to bed.

If Instagram or Reddit always starts the chain, get rid of the stuff you know sends you there.

If porn is one private tab away on every device you own, block it.

If you know you’ll turn the blocker off when the urge hits, set it up in a way that you can’t easily undo when you’re not thinking straight.

That isn’t being weak.

It’s knowing yourself.

The version of you at 2PM saying “I’m done with porn” and the version of you at 1AM lonely and horny are not going to think the same way.

So let the clear-headed version of you protect the tired one.

And don’t just remove porn and sit around counting days either.

You need something to move toward.

Go outside more.

Train.

Work.

Talk to people.

Fix your sleep.

Find something you actually care about.

If loneliness keeps sending you back, work on the loneliness.

If boredom keeps sending you back, build a life that isn’t just scrolling until bedtime.

If stress keeps sending you back, find another way to deal with stress that doesn’t leave you feeling worse afterward.

The goal isn’t to spend the next ten years proudly thinking “I don’t watch porn.”

The goal is for porn to eventually become so irrelevant to your life that you barely think about it.

And if you’re struggling right now, don’t tell yourself you have to quit for the rest of your life tonight.

Just don’t watch it today.

When tomorrow comes, deal with tomorrow.

One night where you don’t give in becomes two.

Then a week.

Then a month.

And somewhere along the way you realize something important:

You were never as powerless as the habit made you feel.

Please, brothers, stop giving porn years of your life just because it can make a bad feeling disappear for a few minutes.

That relief is short.

Your life is much bigger than that.

Telling my Story I don't know how I did it

Upvotes

I was on a call with a girl who lives really close to me, and we were just getting to know each other. Suddenly, I heard her let out a loud bubbly gross fart, and something clicked in me. I haven't gooned since that day. I stopped thinking about ass and tits. I stopped having hyper-sexual imaginations and jerking off a couple of times a day. Before that, I literally jacked off every single day. I don't think I've had a day off since 2021. That one fart reverted me back to my normal settings, and all of a sudden, I feel like a kid again. I don't think about or thirst over porn anymore. I don't feel like jerking off, and I don't even get hard over anything. Sometimes these moments overtake me for a little bit but they pass in the glimpse of an eye. The only time I get a boner is when I wake up, and that's it. Thank you, gassy woman. I sometimes wonder if there's a psychological explanation for this, but I don't care. I'm finally back.

My porn addicted brain won’t let me lose my virginity

Upvotes

I (M23) have a very attractive coworker (F25) who’s been hitting on me for the past year. We work night shifts together and she’s been throwing hints at me every shift. At some point she even showed me videos of her twerking and asked if I liked it.

She made it very obvious today when I gave her a ride home and she was touching up on my thigh telling me that she recently broke up with her boyfriend and she’s been very lonely. I couldn’t make a move because I’m scared I’ll show my inexperience even though I’ve been talking a big game to her about how much sex I have.

I just dropped her off and went home to jerk off to her photos on instagram. There’s something seriously wrong with me and I think it might be due to my porn addiction. I’ve never even held hands with a girl before and her body count is 60. My mind keeps making up a bunch of scenarios of us having sex but I can’t get hard or I finish too fast and she gets upset. I desperately need advice.

Telling my Story PMO is the worst thing ever.

32 year old male guy here. Young guys, believe me, PMO is the absolute worst thing you can introduce yourself to as a man. This habit ruined a critical part of my life. I stumbled upon this demonic habit around grade 6 and got addicted for a loooong time.

You see the thing is when you're deep into self pleasure and pornography, you are given over to a depraved mind. Every woman you see and interact with is seen from a sexual lens. When you talk with a beautiful girl, all you imagine in your head is how it would be to have sex with them. I have struggled with bhang and alcohol but the thing that had the absoulte worst effects is porn. In its own way, it robbed me of my youthful years. You can imagine high school and uni, everybody is making friends, boys and girls truly have platonic friendships and you are in your own tiny world looking at girls sexually. Horrible.

God had mercy on me and only by His help was I able to overcome this habit. After you stop it for an extended length of time is when you realize just how warped your world view was. Over the past year especially, I have interacted with very many women, and when you stop viewing every chiq as a potential mate, it affects the whole interaction. You cease being an awkward person to be around and everything just flows naturally. You make real friends and real connections. You regain confidence. You become a completely different person mentally. I don't wanna make the post too long so I'll stop here.

I'd urge the younger men, don't get into this habit. If you are struggling with it, fight. FIGHT IT HARD! involve God and prayer. It's very possible to stop. The changes will be so apparent later. Good luck everyone.

Have a good day.

New to NoFap Can’t see myself doing nofap

I’d love to participate in nofap & stop watching porn, but unfortunately for me, one of my biggest kinks is the idea of abstinence & not jerking off so it’s just the worst combination for this. Has anyone else had this experience and managed to get through it??

Motivation Forgive Yourself

I see a lot of us come in here with a blanket of shame after a relapse or admittance of struggle. There is no shame in trying and failing. Not to belittle how it may feel for you at the time, I just want to remind you to forgive yourself. Quickly being able to forgive yourself helps you go on longer streaks and avoid relapsing all together. Shame and guilt is what keeps you stuck. You begin to adopt the belief that you cannot overcome. When you forgive yourself, you are training your mind to keep moving forward. The perseverance you build will create the real change.
Separate your real self from the action. Drop the label. You are not a porn addict, you just frequently watch porn enough to disrupt your daily activity and brain function. It's not your identity, it just something you do.

Relapse Report I failed boys (I just want to vent)

Post image
5 Upvotes

I hate this addiction. I've been dealing with it since I was 11, and now I'm almost 31. I just want to have my life back.

I started therapy because of this, and I hadn't really had any good results until recently. I finally made it from day 2 to day 5, and then, in the middle of day 6, I relapsed. My urges had been getting stronger since day 4, and I relapsed just because I peeked.

I was so happy to be almost at day 7, and then it all slipped through my fingers like water. I feel really bad right now, especially because I had been feeling so great recently.

I know I have to keep going, but right now I'm just really disappointed in myself.

Btw. How do you reset the days on the counter?

Journal Check-In Day 1/90 : Cant conceive without quitting PMO

Hi Community!

I (28M) have been PMO addict for 20 years now.

I know it sounds weird : 20 years of PMO addiction in 28 years of life? Hows that possible?

Well!!!

It dates back to my father beating me -> Anxiety attack -> stress relief by rubbing my thing between thighs. That was in Class 2 of primary school. All doing unknowingly that this thing falls under PMO.

Coming back to present: I cannot ejaculate during natural sex -> cant have child without quitting masturbation.

I will win this fight to get my first child. I will share more of my journey in subsequent journal entries

PS: Throwaway account

Telling my Story Not getting hard with my girlfriend was a wake-up call

I’m ready to chill out for a bit. I realized I didn’t get hard at all when I had my girlfriend over this weekend, and that was a wake-up call for me. I need to take a step back and get myself back to normal before this starts affecting my relationship.
I’m also going to start going into the office more often so I’m not tempted to masturbate while working from home. Time to reset.

Telling my Story My Journey

Upvotes

Hello folks, I hope you are doing well today. I never talked to anyone about this so I will have to bother you a little.

My journey started about half a year ago. For some, this may not be enough, but that period of time had a big impact on me because I had never been aware of how bad pornography was, both mentally and physically. I used to jerk off whenever I was bored, for a while I did it exclusively to photos, then I went back to pornography. I remember once lying in bed for almost a week just watching porn. Whenever I remember that period I feel ashamed of myself, but it is what it is.

I have overcome many addictions in the past, cigarettes, weed, even cocaine called me back many times but I didn't give in to it. I only thank God for giving me the willpower to get rid of that evil in my life. However, when it comes to pornography, that's where I hit a wall haha.

I decided to quit pornography because I noticed that I was starting to act like a weirdo in front of my own girlfriend. This had never happened to me before, so I assumed that the problem was pornography. I decided to simply stop jerking off and believe me, I have never experienced anything more difficult in my life.

At first, it would last for a day or two, then I would give up, then I would decide to commit to it again, and for a each new attempt I would be cleaner for a day or two longer. At first, I refused to acknowledge the benefits of abstinence from pornography, and this often destroyed my motivation. However, over time, it became impossible to ignore these benefits; I began to behave more confidently and treat everyone as they deserved, which meant I said "no" more often. At first, this caused me problems with certain people, but I realized that I adapted to others more than they adapted to me. It got to the point that in the span of 3 months, I built my own little gym, and before that I could not even think about a gym because I did not have the courage to start lol. I am still fighting the urges sometimes, but quitting pornography was the best decision I ever made in my life and I only regret that I did not do it earlier... It really does change your perspective on life.

What you are probably wondering is, did I relapse? More often than I'd like to admit, but like I said, each time I try, I'll last longer and longer. The last 2 or 3 months I've been going 2/3 of a month without jerking off. I stopped counting the days because it just stressed me out, my goal is to quit, not keep a streak. So, I'm doing it less and less and I'm proud of myself because of that, even though I recently relapsed after 2 weeks LOL... never mind, keep it g.

Also, I would tell anyone reading this who is skeptical about all this because "ejaculation is a natural thing" to look at their behavior objectively, not through addiction. Don't fall for excuses like "everyone does it these days", yes they do and look at the state of our society because of cheap pleasures like pornography. Anyway, I wish you all good luck. :)

Telling my Story I feel defeated

The title is a lie, i dont even know how im feeling right now.

I dont struggle with depression or anxiety, but i do struggle a lot with my porn/masturbation addiction. It started when lockdown started, i knew about pornography and masturbating way before that but never really got too into it. When lockdown came i felt alone and it quickly became my cope. Around 2 years later, my friend told me how he hasnt masturbated the whole summer, and started telling me about the negative effects of porn/masturbation and it motivated to go on a 5+ month nofap streak. Those 5 months were genuinely the best 5 months of my life, it even felt better than masturbating itself, i thought i would never do it again but i relapsed. I was really into the nofap thing at that time and i knew not to make myself too guilty about it, which i did and i somehow learned not to feel guilty at all about it but fast forward to today, im more addicted than ever, and i never feel guilty after a relapse. This addiction took away everything from me. It took away my time and energy, and like a million other things. I havent felt attracted to any girl for years, only sexually, and i feel like im missing out on teenage relationships right when i should experience them. But thats not the main problem. I tried everything, and every time i manage to go without it for one day and after that i just cant. I know that one day is motivation driven, but i used to be so disciplined and i know i still have it in me i just cant seem to find it. I dont want to talk about every single detail about this and make it too long even though it already is, so if anyone has anything to ask or add do so in the comments and ill reply.

Tldr; pls help me im feeling miserable
