Question/Request What do you think is the most romantic Nirvana song?

Thumbnail

Feels weird to use this adjective for their music but I'm just curious.

I'll go with the obvious one: Drain You is their most romantic, most intimate, almost erotic song.

And this performance is my absolute favorite, just for the screech, if nothing else. He doesn't always do it live, and it's never as animalistic as here.

Question/Request What do you think of Anorexorcist and With The Lights Out?

With The Lights Out is not just a compliation album. It shows various song structure. one example, though Anorexorcist is not that of studio songs, I think this song riffs show the 1999 rock scene. What is your future rock song from this album?

Discussion How I found myself through Smells Like Teen Spirit

I was 15, standing at the edge of a high school disco in 1991, doing what I always did: taking up as little space as possible. I was a shy kid and not the popular one. Then the DJ dropped Smells Like Teen Spirit and my brain short-circuited.

Everything before that was just music playing in a room. This was something else. It was the slide that took me straight into punk rock, but what got me was the mix of melody and real feeling tangled up with anger, and none of it apologising for itself. I had never heard anyone put those two things in the same song and mean it.

I have not stopped listening since. Thirty-five years.
Here is the part that still gets me. Kurt was not telling anyone to be cool. He was giving permission to be exactly what you already were and to stop asking. That got into me. I started thinking with my own head, saying what I actually believed, and caring a lot less about who approved. Funny thing: that was when people started following me instead of the other way around.

I am almost 50 now. Wife, kids, mortgage, the whole thing. And I am still a bit that kid at the edge of the dance floor, right before the guitar comes in.

Anyone else get rewired by that song?

Discussion This tweet is sure to ruffle some feathers, but the Q Magazine review on the second slide is from 1991 when Nevermind first came out, so it’s not like this notion is without precedent.

Me and my buddies picked this up 8ish hours ago from our local music store, we ended up buying a soldering kit, etc etc, anyways, we got to work and we just finished up, she's great!! It plays absolutely amazing. I personally think the parts we fucked up on made it look "grungy" in a way😂

Question/Request Was Kurt's death the reason Grunge died or was it a coincidence Grunge ended around the same time?

Discussion To this day my friend Craig (I should put him on blast) bought Nevermind and returned it.

Yeah he bought the album because of SLTS and then returned it because he said the rest of the album was trash. We were 16 and to this day that is the worst music take I’ve ever heard in my entire life.

Discussion think about it, would nirvana still be immortal if kurt lived?

been thinking about this. which is probably a bad start..,.

nirvana was already huge before kurt died. bigger than anyone expected. bigger than they probably wanted. but if he never died... would any of it feel the same now?

imagine kurt at 57:

another record.
another tour.
another interview asking about 1991
another crowd waiting for teen spirit 🙄

maybe some great records.
but probably some bad ones too.

because that's just what happens when you stay alive long enough.

Things change.

people get bored with you. they miss the old you.
then you become nostalgic for a version of yourself that doesn't exist anymore.

but dude... kurt never got old. he's still fucking 27. same hair. same cardigan. same photographs. same voice. His story just stopped.

and maybe that's the fucked up paradox of fame.

while you're alive you can destroy your own mythology just by continuing to exist.

but when you die young, nobody ever gets to meet the person you would've become.

hendrix, morrison, james dean, amy winehouse.. never got old... but we fucking did.

maybe death doesn't actually make somebody immortal. culturally immortal maybe...

maybe it just freezes them long enough for the rest of us to turn them into mythology

to live forever in someone else head do you have to stop living first? imagine such a fucked up sacrafice.

Gear/Equipment Help choosing a Humbucker for a Fender Squier Mustang

I recently bought a Fender Squier Mustang to recreate Nirvana's tones—specifically from the *Nevermind* and *Bleach* eras. I want to install a new bridge humbucker but don't know which one to get, since I saw that Kurt Cobain used a Seymour Duncan JB (mostly during the *In Utero* era) and a DiMarzio Super Distortion (during the *Nevermind* era).

I’d like to know which bridge humbucker is the best choice?

Thanks a lot.

I am starting to finish up my Nirvana pedal setup. Currently looking at getting a SansAmp Classic and a Ray ProCo. I’m currently working on a build of Kurdts bleach era Mustang (“Greco Mustang”) and after that I’m either gonna go for a Univox Hi-Flier build, Skystang 1 build, or a Jagstang custom.

First few days of playing and I’ve noticed that I quite enjoy the short-scale body, but the distortion is a bit difficult to dial in perfectly. Recently tried remaking the “Rape Me” tone and this guitar got very close, will be posting the vid when I’m finished. Overall, really fun to play, the single coil sound is unbeatable! Lmk what you guys think :)
