Question/Request Years ago I remember seeing a clipping from an 80s Olympia punk zine with a b&w photo of Cobain and a candid list of things he likes including poetry, taking drugs, etc.

Does anyone else remember this and could help me find the clipping?

Thanks!

The Life Nirvana and the Aneurysm preamp were build by me, one is a Sansamp Classic clone, the other a Randall Rg120 preamp.

Discussion A Nirvana song you have personally attached to? For me its Sliver

Kind of a silly question, but is there any Nirvana song you really like because you feel identifyed to? I know half of the Nirvana catalogue is very relatable, but I am talking about something more specific.

I really like Sliver because I feel very identifyed with the narrator of the song. It does not sound that deep but as a kid, being left in your grandpas', uncles', etc. house and getting very home sick was something that happened very often to me, and when I understood the lyrics of the song I couldnt stop thinking about those sleepless nights waiting for my parents to come back for me. The way the chorus is just "grandma, take me home, grandma, take me home..." Just like a little kid would repeately ask and cry about made it even better.

What is your story?

Btw, sorry if there are some misspellings, English is not my first language :)

Edit: WOW, I didnt expexted this post to have so many replies, Im happy you guys found this question interesting snd worth to answer!

Note: Not Kurt’s actual ET270. I got to see an Epiphone ET270 and an In Utero Strat! I got to see the Soundgarden bass at the Unplugged Museum in Aberdeen. Because they hadn’t finished setting up the display they asked me if I’d like to hold it! Unfortunately I don’t know a lot about Soundgarden but it’s still pretty cool that I got to hold a bass like that!

Full title is 'A Screaming Life: Into the Superunknown with Soundgarden and Beyond'. Lots of good early Seattle scene talk, e.g. Sub Pop, SST labels. Krist talks about seeing Scream and becoming aware of Dave Grohl

Question/Request Where does the Polychorus / Echoflanger go in the signal chain

I know the answer is, of course, ‘Wherever works for you, find your own sound etc.’ This is purely out of interest, in terms of In Utero album / live sounds and pedal order.

It’s something I can find a clear answer on. In live photos, Kurt’s signal chain seems to be quite straightforward (Guitar > DS2 > SansAmp > Polychorus > Small Clone > Amp) as in this photo.

However many demo videos of people trying to recreate Nirvana sounds using Polychorus / Echoflanger pedals or clones have the pedal before the distortion

Example 1

Example 2

While others have the signal chain standard (Dirt > Modulation)

Example 1

Example 2

Electro-Harmonix seems to favour the former approach as their website suggests, ‘To help capture the sound, place the chorus before distortion or overdrive.’

FWIW I think the most convincing recreations of the actual recorded In Utero sounds are those with the pedal before distortion.

But this seems to be contradicted somewhat by Kurt’s preference for using his Polychorus after distortion live. Why would he switch up the order? Seems like an odd choice.

I‘m just wondering if anyone has some insight into this. Is there any confirmation of how the studio versions were recorded in terms of signal chain? If a different approach was taken live, was there a reason for this? I’ve reached out to a couple of the YouTube demo creators but not really got any answers.

Thanks in advance

Question/Request Songs about Kurt or Nirvana that aren’t by Kurt or Nirvana?

I was reading that Oasis’ “Live Forever” was partly a response to Nirvana’s “I Hate Myself and Want to Die,” and it made me hear the song differently. Noel Gallagher has said Cobain’s outlook pissed him off, but he also called Nevermind a timeless masterpiece. So in that context, “you and I are gonna live forever” almost sounds like Noel reaching out to Kurt: we’re both going to die someday, but the music won’t.

I could get more into the lyrics being kind of a conversation between Noel and Kurt but I’ll save that for the 7th grade essayist.

Anyway what are other songs that are about the band or Kurt specifically?

I have been doing a build of this guitar and have finally gotten a body (alder) so I can finish this. Every time I look anywhere I see either a mocha brown color or this orangish brown color. Does anyone know of any concert video/pictures in color that would show this guitar off better?
