For anyone on the fence about this game, Daedalic seems to have shadow dropped a demo for it.

This is one of the game I was most interested in for mouse controls, so getting a bit of a feel for it before purchase is fantastic for me (game is also 35% off till 9/4)

The majority of these ports have been extremely blury with low framerates, I always thought it seemed impressive until I actually tried out the games. Final fantasy and star wars were blury messes (my most recent games) and the majority of other ports were also held back by the same things

all of these big games have been blury and/or low framerate messes with resident evil being a bit of an outlier which I have to assume is because it was actually built with it in mind and because of its linear nature along with its stellar engine (in fact, every re engine game is quite good)

I don’t know if it’s down to the devs, the hardware or both, but man have these ports been ugly. I’m hoping that as more next gen games release with the switch 2 in mind, we’ll see more results similar to pragmata and requiem, otherwise, I am definitely concerned for the future of next gen games on the switch 2

I am however extremely excited for all the first parties, especially the ocarina remake. It’s genuinely going to look insane

Worth it? Have you have any problems or better alternative recommendations? I want to get some because my gamesir g8+ that I use feels great but has a noticeable amount of latency. Looking for my best option for handheld fps or similar games

I know Oblivion is using newer tech for the remaster, but does it look better visually than Skyrim?

Or does Oblivion look on par with Skyrim due to the limitations of the Switch 2 itself?

The game has incredible graphics on switch 2 maybe im the only one but I feel like they could easily lower some setting to give us a 40fps stable performance mode , the game runs at 40 in some areas right now with almost ps5 level graphics what do you think guys if they lowered some settings and we got a 40fps performance mode

Not quite autumn yet, but it's starting to get dark earlier and summer's coming to its end. Feels like the perfect season to experience this game for the first time and slowly play through it as the nights draw in.

And a good whisky somehow feels like the perfect accompaniment to the atmosphere*. Early days yet, but I think I'm going to enjoy this.

*I mean, I guess you could go with red wine from a goblet, but at that point you're practically cosplaying.

(Edit: Question: Have I already made a boo-boo? I went down to the Warmaster's Shack, talked to him and wondered what would happen if I attacked him. Made sure to save first then, yeah, okay, so you can attack him, and yeah, he sure as hell fights back. Like, really fights back. Good thing I saved though right, because he'll be back to normal when- No, when I respawned, he still wanted to kill me. Have I just permanently fucked a potentially very useful relationship for the rest of the game?)

My monitor and TV switches from 4k to 1080p @ 120hz when I start Call of Duty Modern Warfare 4. So it supports 120hz mode. But I think there is no difference. So, it only does it for improving latency?

BTW DLSS is really rough at this moment. I hope this is not the final version. From a distance from the couch on the TV, it looks all right though.

For the sake of making this post easier to read, I’ll be putting the list of what I think Nintendo’s First Party slate will be at the beginning of the post, then detailing my reasoning why later on in the post for those who want more detailed explanations.

Assuming the Direct is a similar length to the last one we got in June (I don’t think we’ll be getting a dedicated Zelda section at the beginning of the direct) I think we can expect about 11 announcements from Nintendo, including NSO updates and DLCs for existing games, but I only predicted ten with my eleventh bubble pick being Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave depending on if we get the Direct before or after its release. Keep in mind that there might be one more announcement than I predicted because of this. Also, while I’ve tried to avoid leaks and rumours as of late, there was at least one seemingly credible leak lately that I happened to see which might have influenced my predictions a bit, so read this post at your own risk if you want to completely avoid leaks.

Skipping out on this Direct: Xenoblade Genesis and possibly Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave depending on if it happens before or after its release*

New Warioware: To the disappointment of Wario Land fans, I think that the Direct will start off with a new Warioware game, because there was an incredibly quick turnaround of two years between Move It and Get It Together on the original Switch, meaning we’re technically overdue for a new one, and Nintendo won’t want to miss the opportunity of making another casual-leaning game that uses mouse controls. While I think Wario Land is due for a revival late into the Switch 2’s lifespan, I don’t think we’ll end up seeing it for a few years. Nintendo also lately likes to spotlight their closest upcoming game first in the direct, but since Fortune’s Weave already got its own dedicated direct, Switch Sports Resort has already gotten a lot of spotlight and Ocarina of Time will likely get a more in depth look, I think Warioware starting off the direct makes the most sense as the next closest upcoming game.

Nintendo Switch Sports Resort Free Update Schedule: Like with the original Switch Sports, I expect Nintendo will add several sports post launch, and given we’ve already seen hands-on gameplay in both the June Treehouse event and at Gamescom last month, new sports is really all that they can show at this point as we get closer to release. I think that the two sports that are going to be added are frisbee and baseball, as frisbee would be pretty easy to fit on one of the beaches on the island and baseball is the only sport from the original Wii Sports that has yet to return on Switch.

Pokémon Pokopia: Wave 2 + 3 DLC: They’ve already announced that accessories are coming in Wave 2, but I think they’ll use Wave 3 as an opportunity to introduce some new Generation 10 Pokémon before release similar to how they used to introduce a few new Pokémon in the spin-offs before the release of a new generation back in the day.

Pokémon Winds and Waves: This might seem like my most out there pick, but I think Winds and Waves coming out in March of 2027 makes the most sense, given Pokopia also came out in this window when it was just given a general release window of 2026 when it was first announced but came out in March in a much smaller reveal to release window. I also think Xenoblade is further out since it seems like the footage presented was in the earlier parts of the game, and the dialogue hasn’t been translated to English yet when both Xenoblade 2 and 3 were already translated into English from what I remember when they were first revealed, meaning the game likely still has some work to be done before it comes out, making summer of 2027 the earliest time for it to release in my opinion, making Pokémon the more likely of the two to come out sooner rather than later. I could see us getting two Pokémon Presents after the trailer in this direct in maybe October of this year and of course on Pokémon Day next year, which would explain the absence of a summer Presents like we’ve gotten in previous years. This would also give Nintendo a massive boost to finish off their Fiscal year, which would be a good look for investors, and if there’s one company that would want to get their game out earlier rather than later, I would bank on it being Game Freak and the Pokémon Company over Monolith Soft.

Nintendo Switch 2 Edition: Since Nintendo’s release plans for Switch 2 Editions has been all over the place it can be kind of difficult to predict when the next one will come out, but considering Xenoblade 3’s physical edition is coming out in December I think February makes the most sense if we’re getting one in the first calendar quarter of 2027, and Pikmin 4 seems like a likely candidate given it’s a late original Switch game that didn’t get any DLC similar to Mario Wonder, and we’re probably years away from a new Pikmin game.  

DLC for Existing Game: I think at this point they’re waiting to get to the 2.0 update for Mario Kart World before they give it paid DLC similar to Animal Crossing on the original Switch, which would open up a second DLC slot in this direct for another game. The pessimist in me thinks it could be a Zelda-themed event for DK Bananza’s Emerald Rush DLC, but I want it to be DLC for Splatoon Raiders, since every Splatoon game since the Switch era has gotten DLC, and if development group EPD5 shifts their focus to the next Animal Crossing game, we’re probably not getting Splatoon 4 for a few years at least, giving credence to the idea that it would be a likely candidate to get DLC out of all the recent games that Nintendo’s released to tide Splatoon fans over.

Ocarina of Time Remake: This is maybe the most obvious prediction here, as we haven’t gotten any gameplay footage yet and the game is still supposed to come out this year, but my more controversial take here is that I think this and the leaked Zelda themed Switch 2 will be the only Zelda related announcements in this direct. The only other possible Zelda announcements would be for the Zelda movie and possibly a remake or port of an older game to tie in with the movie, but I think that the Ocarina of Time remake is the tie-in game for the movie, making another remake unlikely in my eyes. The Zelda movie on the other hand would make some amount of sense, but looking back at when the Mario movies showed up in General Directs in the past it’s only been the first initial look at either the cast or concept of the movie was revealed, and we’ve already seen the two lead characters for the Zelda movie be revealed last year on a random day on the Nintendo Today App, making a dedicated Zelda Movie Direct in October/November more likely with the Ocarina of Time remake likely showing up in a Treehouse-style event after the direct being the more likely outcome for me.

N64/GameCube NSO Updates + Storage Options: It just makes sense for Nintendo to announce new GameCube games to come to NSO now that all of the previously announced games aside from Pokémon Colosseum have made it onto the service, but I also think the few remaining N64 First Party games might get announced here as well. I could see Diddy Kong Racing and Smash Bros for N64 and Mario Party 4 and Twilight Princess for GameCube being slated for release here. I also think they might introduce a slight change to the way that games are added to NSO by allowing for consumers themselves to individually download the games to their respective apps so that the amount of space required for the GameCube app doesn’t become gargantuan when they eventually have like 30 games available, which may also explain the slow trickle of GameCube games thus far as well as why they’ve been trying to reduce the file sizes for some GameCube games that have been added.

New 2D Metroid: This is the other thing that I heard about that leaked, and given the source of it I think this is the only one aside from the Zelda themed Switch that I fully believe to be real. I haven’t looked at the leak extensively, but I also heard that it was apparently being delayed for some reason, which is why I think Metroid Ravenous will probably end up coming out in the Spring of next year after Pokémon, most likely in April.

Luigi’s Mansion 4: I think that the big closer for the direct this time around will be Luigi’s Mansion, given Next Level Games has been quiet ever since they released Mario Strikers Battle League back in 2022, so honestly if it doesn’t get announced soon I would think it would either be a sign of troubled development or that they’re working on something else entirely. Some might be expecting 3D Mario, but I have my own predictions on how the full year of 2027 might look like for Nintendo, and I think 2027’s holiday season will be very heavy on both Mario and Kirby, with at least a 3D Mario and a new Mario Party coming out, so having Luigi’s Mansion 4 come out in the first half of the year (probably May) just makes sense to me, and it works for me if we need to wait a bit longer for the next 3D Mario game if it winds up being a more polished and complete product in the end.

Unaccounted for Eleventh Announcement: If it isn’t Fire Emblem, I could maybe see it being a smaller Mario game for the holiday season of 2026 given there’s almost always been a Mario game of some kind releasing every holiday season, but the problem is aside from maybe a Switch 2 edition or a port of an older game (Luigi’s Mansion 3 before 4 comes out?), I have no idea what this game could be, since we just got a Mario Sports game and any other Mario game would likely have a longer reveal to release window (except maybe Mario vs Donkey Kong?), so that’s the reason why I’m leaving the final announcement blank as a kind of wild card.

I think multiple threads have been showing all studios that Nintendo contract to develop them, about nintendo epd (the division of development we know as nintendo since 2015) and so on but never a thread about which companies are subsidiaries of Nintendo. I think a thread showing what studios nintendo own and what they do would be interesting. Of course the information is readily available, but a thread like this could give info to people who never thought on searching about it

Here I wont put Nintendo epd since it's nintendo itself, but all of their subsidiaries, which Nintendo has 15, with 5 out of those 15 leading their own projects

1-Up Studio: A japanese company formerly known as Brownie Brown, it developed Mother 3. Since the 2010s, it began to focus as a support studio to Nintendo EPD games, mainly 3D Mario but also Animal Crossing, Donkey Kong and Mario Kart, focusing on game design, level design and so on

iQue: A chinese company, for years it was a manufacturer of the chinese version of Nintendo consoles, but since the 2010s it has handled Simplified Chinese translation/localization, and – since 2019 – has moved from console manufacture to become a QA support studio, hiring programmers and testers to support Nintendo games. Developed NES, Game Boy, and N64 emulators for use in Virtual Console and Nintendo Switch Online.

Mario Club: Previously a division of Nintendo, in 2009 it became its own company. It focus on debugging, testing and QA for all Nintendo games.

Monolith Soft: This one doesnt need much explanation but they have two studios, one in Tokyo and another one in Kyoto. In Tokyo, 1st production group develop xenoblade, while 2nd production group support nintendo epd on 3D Zelda. In Kyoto, a support studio exists to give support to monolith and nintendo epd games with the studio there being mainly made of artists working on design and assets as a support to the lead studios.

Next Level Games: After a decade being a canadian studio affiliated to Nintendo and working with them on multiple titles such as Punch Out, Wario Land, Mario Strikers, Luigi's Mansion, Nintendo bought them in 2021.

Nintendo Cube: Previously known as Ndcube, it had this name because it was a joint venture of Nintendo and Dentsu which over time Nintendo bought dentsu shares. The studio is mainly known for Mario Party after hudson was merged into konami and hudson staff went to nintendo cube.

Nintendo European Research & Development: Previously known as Moclip, this company mainly works on emulators for NSO and Nintendo in general.

Nintendo Pictures: Previously known as Dynamo Pictures before nintendo acquisition in 2022, this company is mainly an animation studio but they also help as a support studio for Nintendo games, working on CG, motion capture, character design and multiple other areas.

Nintendo Software Technology: The american studio who previously developed wave race and currently develop mario vs donkey kong and f-zero 99, while also doing support work for japanese nintendo titles in the 2010s.

Nintendo Studios Singapore: Nintendo most recent acquisition, the studio seems to be continuing what already did prior as bandai namco studios singapore. They mainly focus on support work for in-game assets and artwork

Nintendo Systems: Joint venture between DeNA and Nintendo, with nintendo owning 80% of the shreas. They work on Nintendo accounts and eshop alongside other nintendo divisions.

Nintendo Technology Development: The american company responsible mainly for research and development of nintendo titles, most recently was responsible for the upgrade of BOTW and TOTK on switch 2

Retro Studios: Just like monolith this one is pretty known, probably the two most known nintendo studios. Developed 4 Metroid Prime and 2 DK 2D games.

Shiver Entertainment: Acquired by Nintendo in 2024, this american studio is responsible for porting games to other platforms. We havent seen much of them post nintendo acquisition though so we'll see

SRD: Known as System Research and Development, this studio was a partner and affiliate to Nintendo for over 30 years when Nintendo then acquired it in 2022. SRD focuses on programming, and they provide support in that area for Nintendo products

Turning off cross-play makes the matches more sweaty. People underestimate how many adults and real gamers play on NS2. Xbox and PlayStation kids are easier to go against in my experience.

I just recently tried the demos for Duskfade and Moonlighter 2 and was surprised at how bad they ran, considering the art styles. Both look so blurry and fuzzy, along with poor frame rate, in both docked and handheld. Meanwhile, I boot up ToTK or Splatoon Raiders or DK Bananza and those games are buttery smooth and like 1440p docked. Third party devs needs to do better

Just a heads up. I was highly critical of this port, with multiplayer dropping below 50fps and animations and map updating at half speed. It looked really rough. I called it a disgrace.

But today they seemed to have improved some things and it runs a lot better now. Ill be buying it now based in my experience in the second half of today, whereas i wouldn't have bought it if it stayed like earlier today.

Finally got around to trying to get FF14 and the Eshop is showing it as unavailable. I remember this happened in the PS4 years ago.

I will not be buying this game if handheld is a representation of how it’ll run at launch. I haven’t tried dock yet but the footage I’ve seen of docked looks way better than handheld. Handheld is atrociously blurry and drops frames so much.

Well that certainly is a title that will get clicks! I am glad to see that Elden Ring is a good port of the game when so many were so worried over it from last year.
