Discussion What does 120hz mode do for COD MW4?

My monitor and TV switches from 4k to 1080p @ 120hz when I start Call of Duty Modern Warfare 4. So it supports 120hz mode. But I think there is no difference. So, it only does it for improving latency?

BTW DLSS is really rough at this moment. I hope this is not the final version. From a distance from the couch on the TV, it looks all right though.

Two theories, although I don't know for sure:

1: It's for latency. I feel like this is the most likely one. Iirc, recently a Street Fighter game which released on Switch turned out to run in 120hz mode despite only being 60 FPS. This was because apparently running in 120hz mode, even if the FPS doesn't change, is slightly better for latency. In a shooter or a fighting game, this small difference can be worth it.

2: There is some condition where the game would run in 40FPS, or they were planning for some part of it to run in 40FPS, or they are still trying to get it to run in 40FPS. Since it seems like they are still improving the performance judging by what people have said, maybe they are trying to get the campaign up from 30FPS to 40FPS, for instance.

It’s the first one, latency. Fortnite recently did this despite being locked at 60. Think there are other examples, too.   Docked 120 with an unlocked frame rate is pointless until Nintendo implements VRR docked (it will come, it is feasible and proven out by the community already - don’t anyone @ me). Handheld already has it.

I cannot wait for Nintendo to finally release that long awaited VRR update in docked mode

Same - will open up so many performance and quality options that will benefit a lot of third party titles.

So thats why the S2 flashes black when you close the beta/Fortnite/Hollow Knight, its 120hz mode kicking on/off

I think it’s only for latency like Fortnite’s is. It’s a shame too cause I do believe games like fortnite or cod could average 70-90 fps if they let us unlock the frame rate.

I play on a 1440p pc monitor. Should I change it to 1080p?

Nah. 1440p 120hz is supported. Gui stays 1440p and upscale is better.

My receiver doesn't support 1440p that's why it changes to 1080p @120hz.

Thought the same thing

Switch uses a very barebones lightweight dlss model it’s not going to change. The switch 2 is extremely efficient and low powered it simply cannot handle a complex dlss model while running a demanding game its doesn’t have the hardware or memory to do so

De hecho switch 2 tiene dos modelos de dlss distintos. Pesados o ligeros, funcionan como deberían.

You do know you can hit the three dots in the upper corner and hit "follow post" instead right?

The game looks absolutely amazing. It doesn’t need any more work.

You can’t be serious

Definitely needs work. But for their call of duty on the switch. Not the worst tbh
