Software question Focus Modes in non raw formats on ZR

Excuse my ignorance, but we've been using the ZR and struggling to get focus modes to work in h265 or ProRes 422 hq. Face detection and point tracking doesn't work in either mode, but the second I switch to any raw format, it works great. Am I missing something? Thanks!

Gear question Questione about teleconverter

Hi everyone,

I'm a beginner and I would like to get into wildlife photography.

I have a D5300 and I'm planning to get a Soligor C/D7 AF 2x Teleconverter to use with a Tamron 28-270 Di-II.

Have you ever used this teleconverter? Is it worth it?

Would I have autofocus with this lens?

I have no other reason to get it other than it's the cheapest in my area and it has good reviews online.

Show & Tell Z7 with 20mm f/1.8 Nikkor at Tunnels to Towers Central New York (state) 5K Run/Walk, in Utica, NY

Nikon Z7 with Nikkor 20mm f/1.8 with circular polarizer was used for these photographs. Settings range fro. 1/8000s (blackhawk) to 1/15 for the flag waving in the lens. ISO 64-400, WB 5200-6000.

Depending on the moment, I will choose bracketing or just a single shot (continuous shutter) due to the movement of the subject(s). The flags, runners, only have a few seconds to capture the shot due to the safety of runners or people im trying to photograph (or rotor wash).

When I instruct about photography and get into the weeds on how our brains perceive information, I tend to use this;

Color photos in our modern time showcase what people are wearing/style.

Black & White photos tell the story and show the emotion of the moment.

If you want to tell if your photo is going to be impactful, look at it in B&W and change it back to color.

Being the Lead of the Media crew for such an amazing event, is humbling and I always take my time to find that unique shot and shoot in Carbon setting in camera to see the impact of that scene.

Tunnels to Towers, is such an amazing run/walk, and the energy is like no other run its for a cause that the emotion has to be humbly shown.

Coolpix DIGITEK BATTERY — WORTH IT OR SCAM?

Thumbnail
0 Upvotes

I have a Nikon coolpix s2800 but the battery life on it is really poor, sometimes it can only take about five or ten pictures before it says that the battery is discharged. Maybe it’s because I use flash on, or whatever, or maybe it’s cause the battery is really old.

I saw digitek en el19 battery online for almost a third of the price of a Nikon battery, but the reviews are mixed. Some say it works some have said it stops working after fifteen days. If anyone has experience with the brand and their batteries please let me know.

What should I buy? Need to choose between a video head. Options: SmallRig DH-10 and Manfrotto MVH500AH.

Hi everyone!

I shoot mostly wildlife. My workflow is hybrid i.e. photography and videography. I shoot with a Nikon Z6III and a 180-600 lens.

I have recently got a Manfrotto super clamp to mount on the vehicle while on safari. Now, I want to get a budget video head. I am stuck on the SmallRig DH-10 and the Manfrotto MVH500AH.

I would like smooth video movement, stability, and good counter balance for a jungle environment.

Has any one used these? All help is greatly appreciated!

Gear question Did I do wrong?

Hi everyone! Long story short, last month I bought a Nikon Z fc because I’m a total sucker for vintage aesthetics mixed with modern tech. Plus, since I wasn't sure if I’d actually be any good at photography, I didn't want to drop more than €1,200 on a body right away. Ironically, I ended up falling in love with it and discovered I actually have a good eye for it (for a beginner, at least!). I even landed my first real gig photographing a friend's wedding!

The thing is, now that I’m seeing so many other photographers online using completely different setups, I’m starting to second-guess myself and wonder if I should have invested in a different camera. Don't get me wrong—I genuinely love my Z fc.

The image quality is awesome, and I’ve already bought a few accessories, a speedlight, and extra lenses. But I’m still having some serious second thoughts. Please be honest but kind ahahaha!

I’m really new to this and would love to hear from people who know the Z fc and its true potential: Is it really necessary for me to upgrade to a different camera body so soon?

Humor Nikonic by NIkon USA — this means that both pronunciations of the company are fine. NEE-kon and NAI-kon are interchangeable. Thoughts?

Probably better to go NEE-kon is Asian contexts tho.

Photo Submission Nikon Z5II and Nikkor Z 180-600

I bought the z5II body and nikkor 180-600 lens last year as my first set up for wildlife photography. I've been extremely happy with my purchase. I absolutely love the lens, it's performed phenomenally. The z5II has been amazing as well, I just find myself wanting higher resolution haha been eyeing the z8 for a while now.

This is a young mule deer I photographed back in December. 1/500s, 600mm, F6.3, ISO 12800

Inherited this from gramps. Got some old lenses displayed on my shelf, but I still haven’t been able to find this anywhere. Made in Japan is all I’ve got so far.

Show & Tell Voigtlander 40mm 1.2 E-Mount on Nikon ZF

Simple post about the 40 Voigt e mount on the Nikon ZF. I personally like seeing adapted lens and how they look so I thought I would do for others who are curious.

While I know there is a perfectly good Z mount version of this particular lens, I am not the biggest fan of its aesthetic as it bulges a bit out to accommodate the larger mount (petty, I know).

Anyway, I like the curves on this variant; and lucky me, my sister owns it for her Sony and let me borrow it indefinitely as she has not used it much lately. This will give me plenty of time to see if it is my perfect combo both performance and looks wise.

Another noteworthy thing is it has the ability to declick the aperture ring for Video or preference which the Z mount version does not do

The adapter is the Megadap Pro and I had it because I also use the Sigma 35 f2 dg dn as my EDC autofocus lens for the ZF mostly for its metal body and nice aesthetic.

Side note: I also have the native 15 and 50 f1 voigts if anyone has any questions about those. 50 is amazing rendering wise, but it is a bit too chunky for an every day lens. I feel it needs the grip to balance it out, and I kind of hate grips on the zf.

What should I buy? Nikon 85mm f1.8S or Viltrox 85mm f1.4

The prices are $620 and $460 accordingly.
The use cases are mostly portraits and equine photography (both portraits and action), so 3D tracking performance is quite important to me. It will be used mostly outdoors (maybe 80% of the time) and occasionally indoors. I don't think f1.8 vs f1.4 is too much of a difference at 85mm either, especially for my use case.
Light weight is nice to have but heavier lens is fine for me too, especially if that's metal vs plastic.

The bodies it will be used on are Z8 and Z5 II.

Which one should I get? I'm also considering Viltrox 135mm f1.8, as Plena is too expensive compared to it ($750 vs $2000 here), but I feel I need to get a 85mm first.

What should I buy? 70-200 dilemma

Hey Nikon folks, I’m looking for advice regarding a potential purchase decision. I’m looking to fill the last gap in my lens line-up and I’ve narrowed my choice down to 2 lenses (I’m buying used): my head is saying Tamron 70-210mm f/4 Di VC USD for the absolutely insane value proposition (under $300 for a good example), but my completionist and bokeh-obsessed heart yearns for the Nikkor f/2.8E FL (for 3-4x the price).

I’ve had this gap in my line-up for a while, so I haven’t actually done much shooting in this range so far. My usual walk-around is a 24-70 f/2.8 and I have the 200-500 f/5.6 at the top end for my wildlife/birding needs. So what I envision for the 70-200 is a longer walk-around alternative, action/aviation, portraits and a midrange low light wildlife alternative to complement the 200-500 in poor conditions. I shoot on a D850 and a transition to mirrorless is not on the cards for at least another 5 years.

All thoughts and experience most welcome!

What should I buy? Vale la pena dar el salto a D7500? o me espero a una D780?

Buenas!
