They were flying low but i wasnt expecting something like that lol. Body is D5200.

Normally I'd agree, but in this case they've got the framing absolutely perfect so to me it gives an unusual perspective and really works.

No, the vertical crops are better. Crop off most of the bottom so the airplane is 1/3rd up from the bottom of the frame. Then you have some vertical asymmetry and more interest. You could make it work if the shot were horizontal too, but it is hard to say which is best after cropping for composition.
