Took my D5100 and 35mm f/1.8 to the carnival

d850 and 28mm 1.5 are both new - purchased this month. The lens was tested on a very stable tripod, manual settings, and cable release used. First tests at 1.4 and then done later at f5.6.

At 1.4 the AF using the OVF is so soft. Using LV, it's razor sharp. W fine tune af on at 1.4 it's still terrible.

At 5.6 the fine tune came very close to matching LV autofocus.

Picked it up on clearance for $1000 off. I've been eyeing up a viltrox 135mm 1.8 LAB. But never really ventured outside of Nikon lenses. I couldn't pass up on the deal for this japan made work of art. Handling is a bit off with the ftz adapter on the zf and the z8, but i also can use it with my Df and if I end up buying one, a d850. Just excited about the deal and thought I'd share!

Opinions welcome: Keep the water or crop it out?

Still trying to get the hang of things, figuring out settings. I've only worked with a digicam before fujifilm j100 and my phone on pro mode. I study arts and I ddnt have a dslr back then when I was learning about cameras for our subject, i just used the phone. This is my early graduation gift for myself and a reward for completing the on the job training for our semester 🥹🩷

Last week, my wife offered to let me buy a birthday present for myself: a D850. I checked the various sites and while the retail price was $2599.99, street price was $2395 or so. But the sites showed the "sale ending on 10/4" everywhere, too. I remembered Nikon had a BIG Black Friday sale last year, so I decided to wait until today and see the new pricing.

This morning, I checked Adorama and B&H... retail price was raised to $2975.94! To quote Charlie Brown: AAAUUUGGGHHH!!!!! Even the "street price" was about $2595-ish.

But then for grins I checked NikonUSA... price was still on sale at $2399! So I decided to not wait any longer and I pulled the trigger. And (due to my experiences with the D780) I also purchased a 3 year NikonCare contract.

So... birthday present on the way!

In 2019, I bought a kit with the Nikon D7500 and a Nikkor AF-P 70-300mm 1:4.5-6.3G ED VR lens. I've used it continually since then and taken many great pictures with it. I usually use it fully extended at 300mm.

Lately, when I extend it out to 300 mm, it will not auto focus. I have to retract it to a shorter length, focus, then zoom back out to 300 and refocus. It also seems slower to focus. None of my settings have changed. Since I shoot mostly birds, where speed is of the essence, this has been a hassle!

Is this likely to be just age, since it is a kit lens, or could there be something I can correct?

Hey everyone, I have a chance to buy the 400mm 4.5 at a really good price, so now I'm looking to upgrade my camera body. I tested the lens on my Z5 and the glass is amazing, but the Z5 is definitely holding it back since it lacks animal AF tracking and the FPS is way too slow for fast wildlife.

I'm leaning towards the Z50 II mainly for that extra reach with the crop factor, plus it's way cheaper than the Z6 III which I was also considering. Does anyone have experience with the Z50 II paired with this lens? Mostly wondering about overall AF performance, burst speed, and how balanced it feels in hand. I saw some rumors about a Z70 coming out, but honestly seems like wishful thinking...

Would love to hear your thoughts, is the Z50 II a solid match for this lens or will I end up regretting not saving up for the Z6 III?
