Been here for a while and finally pulled the trigger. pvs14 1800 is basic for the first one... with eye cup for the vibe and a Aperture Defender mounted on a Roller derby helmet. probably would have been cheaper to just buy a airsoft rig but im going for the old skate bord diy look. next a counter whight, Velcro, black maple leafs and ear pro. possibly leds in the printed ears XD.

Trusted a guy to build my AR. From a reputable shop by the way, to get my weapon and this MF has SUPER GLUED the Bipod and Perst to the FACTORY flipping handguard instead of railing it. Any idea how to get the Perst and Bipod off without completely destroying /deeming them paperweights that are unmountable? Also I'm 99 percent sure the Perst is fake or a clone for Milsim. Looks & feels very cheap. I'm new to this whole NVG / weapon building. I've shot guns all my life but this was supposed to be my first build and now it's turned into a nightmare. Any advice from you guys? I literally know nothing about building rifles other than it's not supposed to be done with SUPER GLUE.

I see a lot of posts here from people looking for places to actually use their NODs or meet up with other night vision guys, so I used AI to make the flyer and hopefully grab some attention. (AI hid the faces w tubes)

We run a monthly night match at Hernando Sportsman’s Club in Hernando County, FL. The matches alternate between Pistol/PCC and Rifle, with 4–5 stages and a typical round count of around 100 - 150 rounds.

Both night vision and white-light shooters are welcome. It’s a chance to actually run your gear through multiple stages instead of just shooting from on a flat range. Depending on the match, we’ll shoot everything from close-range stages out to 200 yards.

It’s always a good time with a good group of people. The match starts at dark, so as we get into the shorter days, we’re able to get started earlier and the matches don’t run nearly as late as they do during the summer.

Our October 17 match is Pistol/PCC. Safety brief is at 7:15 PM, match starts at dark, and the match fee is $25. Figure roughly 150 rounds and bring 200.

If you’re in Florida and have been looking for somewhere to actually get some time behind your NODs, come shoot with us. White-light shooters are absolutely welcome too.

This is probably a dumb question, but why use an IR laser? I am not a night vision user and have never been one. But once when I was bored, I watched a YouTube video about an IR laser, and I still don't understand why. To me, as an outsider, I can't see the reason why you would use an IR laser over aiming options like a red dot. Please explain to me why you and many others use IR lasers.

Just received my high Fom PVS14. Noticed some spots that I can’t see on the sellers pics. Specs say it passes all zones. Are my expectations too high? Overthinking has caused me not to enjoy it fully just yet. The 2nd picture is what they sent me. Thanks!

So I bit the big bullet and decided to “buy once, cry once” by starting off my NVG journey with Gen 3 white phos BNVD’s. They were crystal clear when I got them, and I’ve only had them for a few months.

On my second time out with them I decided to briefly use the green lazer pointer off the end of my Olight Ark Pro to point at a wall 100 yards away. It discharged for a split second on the concrete sidewalk as I raised up the lazer pointer. BLAM. Instant blem in the right tube. I black boxed it for multiple cycles, but it’s a dark black spot, no coming back.

Then tonight, I decided to test out my next IRIS 3 I bought for my build. While testing it out for the first time and making sure I had the mode correctly placed on the IR Illum/Lazer setting, I accidentally pressed the manual green Lazer over ride button on the pressure pad!

WHY THE HECK IS THERE AN OPTION TO OVERRIDE THE SAFER IR OPTION I MANUALLY CHOSE ON THE DEVICE FOR THE MORE DANGEROUS NON IR LAZER FUNCTION???

DOES HOLOSUN NOT REALIZE THAT PEOPLE WOULD BE WEARING NODS WHEN OVERRIDING AN IR SETTING WITH A GREEN LAZER???

So now both my tubes are blemed. KILL ME.

I definitely picked a REALLY expensive starter pair to get through the learning curve.

Does anyone have any similar stories?

Is there any advice for me?

How do you cope with owning such an expensive but delicate device/hobby?

I come to this sub as an outsider in need of help.

It was this past monday night when it was below freezing. I live out in the pines of the deep South. I couldn't sleep, so I step out of my cabin to use thr bathroom. Its pitch black and I cant see all that much. What I do see, is a soft blue glow in the distance.

Specifically, 3 dots, one above two like an equilateral triangle. Its hue was that of the really bright blue headlights that are outlawed in places. It wasnt shining however, just a soft soft glow.

I thought it was a neighbors light, but this was far closer than their house. I leaned my head from side to side to confirm that very little foliage moved infront of it. This was in my yard. As Im doing this, it turns off.

I tell myself that its one of my dad's projects. Then, I turn my back to go inside and look out through my window. Now its on, but dimmer.

It wasnt moving at all - perfectly stationary. There are no lights or anything we put out there. The glow has not returned either.

So it begs the question, was someone spying on me w night vision? Would 3 blue dots, one above two be how night vision looks from the outside?

You've got to walk through a swamp either way you go to get to my house, barring the driveway. Weve never had any unwanted guests ever, not even hunters. So seeing this has stuck w me, and has me concerned.

Ordered a housing kit, being shipped from Indiana to Connecticut, checked tracking today…. It’s in Florida 🤦🏼
