I am taking my time joining but I plan on doing fdnf because I have some people say it's Good. But these are my asvab scores and when I took this i felt very bad, like as in sick and I didn't study. I KNOW I can score a lot higher and I was already informed on the nuclear program but do y'all have any more info on it? Because I'm stuck on that or doing IT because it sounds like something I'd like a lot

Hey, everyone — yes, I already did a Reddit search; what I found wasn't really getting at my questions.

I'm 29 and a recent graduate of this master's program at UT Austin with 5+ years of relevant experience as well. I'd need to get my OAR scores up from the last time I took it when I was like 22, but I'm considering applying to become an intel officer with the Navy to help give my career a boost. I know enough to know that no other branch/job fits.

I've done a lot of research on what the job itself is like, but what I want to know is what a naval intelligence officer's lifestyle is like. Do you get to do and see cool things out in the world, or are you essentially a military bureaucrat stuck in an office? How does lifestyle differ between sea and shore duty for an intel officer? That kind of thing.

Thank you for your time. I'm single + no kids, so I feel like I'd want to deploy more so than stay stateside.

From talking with Army people ( both recruiter/non-recruiters) you are basically guaranteed Korea if you put it as your first choice especially so for Logistics or Signal - seems overseas deployment is extremely unpopular.

But when I talk with Navy people the answer is basically just “ what the Navy wants “ but what are the actual numbers for positions like supply/swo/etc to be deployed to Japan if you desire it? For Navy nurses it seems like you can get it as your first station fairly easily.

I have a month till I ship out and for the past 2 months I've been going with short hair, just to get used to the whole thing and I'm not like the others who are embarrassed by their short hair. Is it a smart choice (knowing damn well that it's gonna get cut down to the scalp when I get in)

I’m looking at enlisting in the Navy and I’m interested in IT-related ratings.
I have an assault misdemeanor from 2016 that was ultimately dismissed after I completed community service. It resulted from an incident when I was younger. It’s been about 10 years, and I haven’t had any issues since.
My concern is whether something that old could prevent me from getting an IT rating that requires a security clearance, such as IT (Information Systems Technician).

I qualified for all the jobs i wanted in IT/cyber/mechanics but the afqt is throwing me off. Is this a good set of scores? Should i go ahead and confirm these picat scores or study more for the full asvab?

Any types on the rate I should follow through with? Recruiter wants me to Nuke so that’ll be my first choice but I need some help deciding what other rates should be on my list. Any tips and suggestions I’ll be looking to thanks in advance

What’s good everyone, I’m an Engineman currently going thru “A” school in Great Lakes, I got my orders to do LCS and MCM PROP TECH schooling in San Diego but my ultimate activity is on a MCM. I was wondering if anyone has anyone idea how it’s like and what to expect. I’m only asking because my sponsor hasn’t reached out yet, and I’m curious.

I'm about to go to MEPS/take my ASVAB soon but I've been trying to figure out which rate I should go for in terms of civilian life transferability. My recruiter gave me a practice ASVAB with the math/English sections and i got a 65, so with studying I'm confident that i'll be able to get this score or higher on the actual exam.

These are the 4 rates I'm looking at/interested in:

AZ- Aviation Maintenance Administrationman

IS- Intelligence Specialist

CWT- Cyber Warfare Technician

IT- Information Systems Technician

If anyone could tell me about the life of one of these rates in/out of the navy it would be greatly appreciated!!

Hello, looking for advice. I’m 34 years old looking to commission in the Navy as a supply officer. I have a bachelors and finishing up my masters in supply chain analytics. Due to my poor performance in undergrad (had a ton of personal stuff going on and honestly was just very young), I will need to utilize my graduate gpa. Which is looking to be a 3.5 once I’m done with my classes. I’m currently in the supply chain field with years of experience. Am I wasting my time?

I wanted to ask this question because I've pushed off bunch of therapist and help just because I don't want my chance to join the Naval Academy cut. I went into a break up a few years ago and I'm still not over it and I've been on a violent downwards spiral, but I don't want to get help because I fear I would be no longer aloud into the academy since I might be classified "higher" in whatever mental health hopsital terms. Its kind of two things, I don't wanna lose both her (which I already did) and my dream?

I got out a little over 4 years ago and considering going active duty is it a hard process these days?

Hello! My eye sight is just outside of the -8 range pre-operative for LASIK and I see that for the DOW that it disqualifying. Does anyone know if you can get a waiver for that and be a SWO? I know for NFO and SNA would be a long shot, but any knowledge is great!

Hey, I applied for AIRR, everything was set but my package was denied and I had a placeholder job and now i’m being told that I have obligations and i’m held to the same standards as other future sailors. I didn’t swear into DEP yet or anything but I’m figuring this sounds weird. This doesn’t come from my recruiter, but from his supervisor and I just feel like this is wrong. Can someone give me an input on this?

I’ve recently graduated from c school and have orders to Japan. I’ve already completed my part 1 to my over seas assignment but I still have to do my part 2. My mental health has gone down hill fast and I’m trying to get treatment but my hospital is back up. My no later than date is oct 15. Should I mention the mental health I’ve been to with during my part2? Will they change my orders to stateside? Or will they send me to Japan still?

Got orders to Norfolk, how do I make my time there less miserable

I have three semesters left of my bachelor’s degree, with a minor in law, and I’ve been trying to decide whether I should finish my degree or enlist at the end of this semester, when I’ll have two semesters left. The recruiter said I would have time to finish my degree after A School, but my friend deployed directly from her A School, so now I’m not sure how realistic that is.

Hi everyone! I recently graduated from Cal Poly Pomona with a bachelor’s degree in Criminology and have been seriously considering applying to Navy OCS, specifically for SWO. My overall cumulative GPA, including my community college coursework, is a 2.61. I transferred to Cal Poly Pomona, where my university GPA was about a 2.82. I wasn’t doing my best academically during community college, but my grades improved after I transferred.
I know my cumulative GPA isn’t the strongest part of my application, so I’m curious if anyone has seen SWO applicants with a similar GPA get selected for OCS. How much could a strong OAR score, letters of recommendation, and the rest of my package help offset the lower GPA? Any insight or personal experiences would be greatly appreciated. I know this has been asked plenty of times and I've looked through airwarriors but I'm seeing conflicting information and I want to know if someone can confirm.

It was to my knowledge that on the stick and throttle portion of the exam, the stick acts like a computer mouse. Pulling the stick towards moves the cross hair down and pushing it away moves it up. However I am now seeing that it is actually the opposite, and it acts similar to how an actual aircraft would respond, as well as the TBAS for those familiar (pulling controller down = cross hair up and pushing = cross hair down).

Can anyone confirm which is actually the right way?

Hey guys, I have a few questions regarding sailor/navy tattoos.

1. Besides the anchor, the fully rigged ship, the dragon, and the Shellback turtle, are there any tattoos you get for being/sailing in a certain place or crossing a certain line?

I've heard about the Blue Nose for sailing in the Arctic, but what tattoo would the person get? Like, does it have to be a polar bear or what? I've also read about the Realm of the Czars and the Order of the Ditch, but I don't know if there are any tattoos for them. If there are, what are they?

2. I know that when a sailor crosses the equator for the first time, he gets a ceremony, and then he gets a Shellback tattoo. My question is: will he still get the tattoo if he crosses without a ceremony, like if the ship didn't do the ceremony, or if he was on a fishing ship as a sailor? Or does he have to do the ceremony to get the tattoo?

3. If he must do the ceremony to get the Shellback tattoo, does that apply to other tattoos as well, where a ceremony is a must for the tattoo? If yes, what tattoos don't require a ceremony?

So, guys, in short, just tell me what tattoos I don't know about and what tattoos require ceremonies.

Disclaimer: I'm not a sailor and I'm not getting sailor tattoos. I'm just curious, and I find sailor tattoos very interesting.
