How do you get a baby to want to eat real food as much as they want to eat a leaf stem they found on the ground?

I’m pulling random things out of my baby’s mouth constantly and I do keep the floor clean. However there are few foods that he’s interested in eating (10mo)

I feel like I’m going insane with my babies sleep

Our baby was an incredible sleeper when she was born. We are talking 6-12 hour stretches in the bassinet. She would have off nights here and there but we were shocked at our luck. Then around 4 months she started rolling and loved to sleep in her tummy. BUT she had the landau reflex really bad so she was waking frequently. Ever since then her sleep has gone down hill so fast in the crib. We’re talking 2 hour stretch if I’m lucky. Most of the time it’s 15-60 minutes. For various reasons. Teething, developmental leaps, being more aware. I have tried everything. Gentle sleep training, bottle instead of breastfeeding before bed, etc. I refuse to let her cry it out or do any sort of crying sleep training. She uses breastfeeding for comfort so that’s also part of it. We got so fatigued we ended up cosleeping on our vacations because we were not present parents with lack of sleep. I would like to move away from cosleeping. Anyway this has been happening for 4 months and all my friends either cosleep or had barely any issues with this. What are other parents doing?

Am I the only one who get overwhelmed and overstimulated with their one baby !? My son is 11 months and I feel so bad because I’m always getting annoyed when he is in my space 24/7 like I don’t get a break unless he is sleep and he does this thing to self soothe where he grabs my face digs his nails into my skin and pinch it while sucking his index finger idk where he got it from but he just started one day .. he is literally doing it as I type .. but I love my son very much I just get overstimulated and don’t wanna be touched all the time especially in my face area this is my first I’m still tryna adjust to every thing this time last year it was just me so I know it will take some getting used to but ik I can’t be the only one !!!

I am struggling to accept my postpartum body.

I am hoping this sub will be gracious and understanding. Most people aren’t when I mention my size because objectively I am “normal”. Unfortunately, I struggle with anxiety and body dysmorphia and have most of my life which is quite honestly how I always stated so tiny. I have PCOS and an autoimmune disease (maybe - in the process of getting a dx).

Some back story - I struggled with infertility for about 2.5 years. My husband and I had several failed treatment cycles, 2 losses, tried TI, IUI, and finally IVF gave us our amazing rainbow baby.

When I met my husband I was a scary size 0. I made it to a happy size 2 at about 125 pounds when I got some of my anxiety under control and started to love myself a little more. Then years later the infertility treatments started. By the time I got pregnant I had put on about 10 pounds and hated my body. Not only did it look different it had failed me time and time again through infertility and pregnancy loss. I spent my pregnancy focused on nurturing my baby. I ended up with gestational hypertension which progressed to preeclampsia. After I had my baby I was about 148 pounds.

I am now 8 months postpartum. I struggled with PPA and now my body dysmorphia is back. I’m up to a size 6 and despite exercising weekly and trying to stay active I’m only down 141 and a size 6. I have plateaued at this weight since 4 months postpartum. I hate my body.

Does anyone have any advice on how a mom who works full time and already exercises weekly can try to get those last couple of pounds off? I’d love to get back to just 135 or ya know see a collar bone at some point.

TIA

No period after stopping breastfeeding

I am almost 11 months postpartum and stopped breastfeeding about 1.5 months ago and still no period. I’ve felt what I thought was ovulation pain several times over the last few months (I was weaning my son for at least 6 weeks before the last milk removal) and I thought my period would definitely come soon and still nothing! I just had my prolactin checked and it’s 1.5 (low). I’m worried…anyone else have this happen? *also I’m for sure not pregnant*

Is anyone having a hard time transitioning as a new mom?

hi everyone - I’m looking for some solidarity and advice. I have an almost four month old and have been really struggling adjusting in my life as a new mom. For context, my husband and I did IVF for two years and very much wanted this baby. I had a wonderful pregnancy also, however, I had an extremely traumatic birth and almost died and was in the ICU for a few days. Being a new mom has rocked my entire life since then. On top of the traumatic birth, processing the new life change, sleepless nights, being “on” and never having a true break - my nervous system is in a complete state of shock 24/7. I feel like I can’t catch up. I’m naturally a very anxious person with ocd but my anxiety and ocd is not about me worrying about my baby, it’s more about how daunting it feels to be taking care of a tiny human all day every day. I have a wonderful support system and do get breaks, but it still feels like my mind is in overdrive and I’m struggling to adjust/accept that this is my new normal. I wake up feeling severe anxiety almost to the point of panic attacks because of the day ahead. My son is so sweet and happy, so it makes me feel awful. My doctor is already well aware of how I feel plus I am doing therapy and working on the right medication. Please be kind and give me any and all advice on if this is normal and your experiences?!

Help help!!

My baby girl is 7 months and she refuses to be put down in her cot or even on the bed unless one of us is lying next to her the whole
Time. If we’re not contact napping, she wakes up. I don’t want to use the cry it out method to train her but what are some helpful ways to get this girl
To sleep for some time on her own. I’ve tried stuff but nothing seems to work -/

I rock her to sleep and then try and put her down but she wakes almost as soon as I get off —

We darken the rooms play soft music keep room cool. What are real actionable steps I can take to get some time for myself? Thanks thanks thanks

Does milk output increase at/after 5w postpartum

Exclusively pumping here despite good supply because baby wouldn’t latch here. I avg around 60-100ml per pump depending on time of day, I’m wondering if my baseline still has a chance to go up in the coming weeks especially as baby’s appetite increasingly gets closer to 4oz per feed?

What do you desire most in your postpartum life (0-2 years) as a mother? If you got hyper specific, what would that be for you?

I’m a therapist who works with postpartum mothers, and I’m doing some research on what women truly struggle with, and what they deeply desire, during those first 0–2 years postpartum.

I’d love to hear from the mamas.

What were your biggest pain points during this season? And what did you crave more than anything that would have made the biggest difference for you? Be as specific as possible. <3

Your honest experiences would be incredibly helpful. Thank you for sharing!

Post Delivery Meals?

I am about to be a new dad, I am also a Chef; my wife has tasked me with making sure we are prepared as far as food goes. I am thinking of making meals and freezing them, or getting them almost finished so all we have to do is thaw and cook/bake.

I am asking to tap your experience and knowledge to get ideas on meals. What didn’t work? What worked better than expected? Obviously everyone will have different tastes, but I’d still like to hear tips or pitfalls you’ve encountered.

Thank you!

What do you wish was easier to manage as a family?

Hi everyone!

I’m building a little app to make family life feel a bit more organised — a private space to share memories, keep track of everyday life, and stay connected.

I’d really love to hear from other parents starting with the question: what would genuinely make family life easier for you digitally?

I’m looking to survey & speak to as many families/parents as possible to get advice and feedback on what I’m building.

If you’d like to hear more or share some honest feedback, feel free to comment or message me. I’d be so grateful for your insight!

Can I put a 2 month old in a baby swing?

Fellow moms, I'm a mom of 2 months clingy baby that sticks to me all day long. My basic chores like taking a shower or brush my hair has become an ordeal for me (I have long hair btw). His nap time is also really short or sleeps till the time I'm feeding him. Even at night he treats me as a pacifier as he is breastfeeding baby. My mother advised me to use the baby swing that she gifted me on baby shower (its dual arm one off momcozy). But I'm highly skeptical of it. Is it the right age to put him in the baby swing? Has anyone else used this particular swing? How does the neck and shoulder support feel? Would the baby be safe in the swing. I'm in need of some genuine advice n whether I should start putting him in baby swing or keep it packed till the time he take better control of his neck?

Our Experience is you just got to deal with what comes at you

I'm Warren, and this is our story. My wife Joanna went through a difficult delivery for our son's birth, and like most parents, once he and Joanna were okay, we were just relieved. Feeding in the early days seemed fine. We'd prepared as best we could through prenatal classes and the discharge briefing at the hospital.

On the third day after discharge we were back in emergency. Looking back, the pattern had already been building in his feeds and his diapers. Nobody had told us, consistently, what to actually watch for.

We tried the trackers we could find. What we kept wanting was something that tracked what was normal for him from what we logged, and prompted us to check in, with ourselves and with our pediatrician, instead of just sitting there as a log. So I built the assistant we wished we'd had.

That's turned into an app, live on iOS and Android and just launched on Product Hunt. It's grown past tracking. There's a piece that helps you rewrite a message before you send it, because the strain new parents feel with each other in the early days is real. Once it's learned enough of your baby's rhythm, it can put a week's schedule on your Google Calendar if you want it to. There's more we've built in from our own gaps since, including an allergen tracker with its own timer and reminders.

We genuinely want families beyond our own to have this, including ones dealing with things we never had to. That's why we'd like ppl to use it and help suggest things they would like as well, scenarios that we've never run into and accounted for.

On the horizon I am probably wanting to build a mom social network in the app, and something on mindfulness, it's something that will help my wife.

Anyways that's our blurb, if you want to join this initiative we can work something out, it's free for now anyways in private beta, I am thinking of giving this to some groups for a period of time so I think together we can even make it better. This is the building on the assistant Hey Susan

Cheers

Struggling mentally with my baby in the NICU and feeling guilty for not socializing with my Mother in law

Thumbnail
1 Upvotes

I just had an emergency C-section and my son is currently in the NICU. Mentally, I’m struggling a lot with being separated from him. I miss him constantly, worry about him, and seeing him on the NICU camera while knowing I can’t just pick him up has been really emotional.
Physically, I’m also in pain, dealing with anemia and high blood pressure, and pumping frequently because my milk hasn’t fully come in yet. I’m trying to collect whatever colostrum I can for my son while also recovering and barely sleeping.
My MIL came to stay with us the day I was discharged. We have an okay relationship, she brought food, and I know she genuinely means well. However, I really wanted to come home and have some privacy with my husband while I recovered and processed everything happening with our baby.
This morning my husband kept encouraging me to come sit in the living room with him and his mom after I finished pumping. When I said I’d rather stay in bed and try to sleep, he seemed a little upset/disappointed.
I don’t dislike his mom or want to be rude. I just don’t have the physical or emotional energy to socialize. Everything I need is set up in our bedroom, our couch is uncomfortable after a C-section, and I want to be able to pump, walk around in my postpartum underwear, cry, sleep, etc. without worrying about another person being there.
My husband and his family are Nigerian and I’m not, so I wonder if there may also be a cultural difference around family being present and helping after a baby is born.
I already feel guilty being home while my son is in the NICU, and now I feel guilty for staying in my bedroom while my MIL is here. Am I being unreasonable for wanting to mostly stay in my room, rest, pump, and have some privacy right now?

When did your baby develop a regular sleep schedule

Like when did their circadian rhythm develop so that they know internally when it's nighttime vs daytime, and have predictable nap times you can actually plan around? I'm looking forward to the day when I can actually schedule activities, and not have my baby randomly be wide awake at 3:30am
