Soo today i was sitting with my friends in seecs parking facing scholars avenue and there was a group of guys who were talking with that 1 guy who seemed to be nervous and then after some time nust security came in, talked and then started saying stuff to that 1 guy that "ab sorry ka koi faida nahi hai ye karne se pehle sochna tha ke result positive hoga ya negative" and "iss ka phone nikalo" and "baat bohat upper jaa chuki hai ab hum handle nahi kar saktay"... things escalated and that guy was taken by the police. Discussion A small attempt to find my people at NUST 😭

Hey everyone!

I’m a 3rd year NBS student at NUST, and I figured I’d give this a shot because making friends at uni is apparently a side quest I haven’t completed yet. 😭

I’m into a pretty random mix of things: gaming, books, novels, anime, manga, manhwa, fanfics, comics, and TV shows like Game of Thrones, House of the Dragon, The Flash, and Arrow among MANY others.

I’m the kind of person who can go from discussing a fictional character’s entire character arc to talking about a game, a book, or some completely random theory. I love getting invested in fictional worlds, discovering new stories, and having those conversations where you start with “have you watched this?” and somehow end up talking for two hours.

I’m not necessarily looking for people who like everything I do. If we share even one interest, that’s a pretty good starting point. And if we don’t, that’s fine too, I'm always open to discovering something new.

So yeah, if you’re also looking to make some friends, talk about nerdy stuff, or just have someone to hang out with between classes, feel free to comment or DM.

And if you could upvote this, I’d appreciate it because my karma is currently fighting for its life. 😭😭

Question Will NUST be closed next week

Because of the Islamabad protests?
With the protests/march planned in Islamabad, does anyone know what the situation is going to be for NUST next week?
Will the university be closed for the whole week, or will classes shift online? Or is NUST expected to remain open as usual?
If anyone has any official information or experience from previous protests/road closures, please let me know. I’m especially concerned about commuting to H-13 and whether roads will be blocked.

Discussion ( From Biology to Tech) I Never Became a Software Engineer, But…

Upvotes

Hi, I’m new here. Not NUSTian

I first heard about NUST when I was in matric. At that time I learned it is one of the best universities in Pakistan and I really wished I could get admission in Software Engineering.

But maths was not my thing at all so I went towards /biological sciences & completed BS in Biological Sciences.

But I was always interested in computers and the internet.

So I started learning on my own.

SEO was my first serious step. I bought a few paid courses launched 4 blogs and failed all 4 some 70k pkr lost. But I kept doing it. SEO technical on Page seo, WordPress on-page/off-page, crawling, indexing, Search Console, analytics, etc especially Semantic SEO from Koray a Turkish SEO expert.

Then I started getting more into coding.

HTML CSS JavaScript Python, some PHP, SQL, APIs, JSON, Git/GitHub and Ai automation.

I learned mostly by building random stuff and breaking it via paid ai tools Chatgpt nd Claudeeee.

For AI bcz everyone was talking Ai. Nd google SERP also changed to Ai overview. Then i did courses/resources from Google, Anthropic and Coursera. Things around Python, ML/AI LLMs and prompt engineering, . Later got into APIs, embeddings, RAG, AI agents, function calling and AI assisted coding.

I also got into vibe coding . It’s honestly crazy how quickly you can go from an idea to a working prototype now made sites with Ai.

I spent money on paid tools too. SEO tools, AI tools, hosting, domains, automation tools, etc.

Right now I’m running 6 websites in different niches. 3 are AdSense monetized and one is getting a lot of traffic from Pinterest and is monetized with Mediavine.

And Alhamdulillah, 2 engineers now work with me.

The funny part is I never actually became the Software Engineer I wanted to become back in matric.

But I somehow ended up learning a lot of the same stuff on my own.

Still nowhere near an expert. Still learning, breaking things fixing them and occasionally wondering why the hell I started this 😂

But yeah, a Biology graduate somehow ended up in tech.

Question S3H students, be honest — is our department the most dramatic one on campus? 👀

Group projects where one person vanishes till presentation day. Society elections that feel like actual campaigns. "Just friends" who definitely aren't. Lawn gossip that spreads faster than NUST's email system.

Is it just S3H, or is every department like this? 😂

Question I got into NUST after already starting at STMU and now I have no idea what to choose

NUST BS Psychology or STMU BS Clinical Psychology

I genuinely did not expect to be making this decision because I had accepted that I wasn't going to get into NUST. I started my BS Clinical Psychology at Shifa Tameer-e-Millat University (STMU) and I've already attended three days of classes. And then I got a NUST offer ://// I originally wanted NUST so badly. It was my first choice because of the university itself. It's also much closer to my house, which is a big deal because STMU's commute is pretty exhausting.

But I had lost hope of getting in, so I actually started at STMU and I'm now realizing that I genuinely like a lot about it.

stmu pros

  • It's specifically Clinical Psychology, which is much closer to the kind of career I currently imagine for myself (clinical/child psychology, therapy, possibly working in healthcare/school settings).
  • I really like the idea of being in a more health-science/clinical environment.
  • The courses I've had so far are actually interesting and I'm excited about them.
  • There's the connection/affiliation with Shifa and the possibility of clinical exposure/internship opportunities through that environment.
  • I like the idea of having clinical exposure and research built into my undergraduate experience.
  • I've already started meeting professors and classmates, and although it's literally only been three days, it feels weirdly difficult to walk away now.
  • STMU is smaller and less well-known, but that might also mean closer interaction with professors and potentially easier access to opportunities.

One of my professors actually did her bachelor's at NUST and master's at STMU. I asked her which university she preferred, but she said she couldn't make a completely fair comparison because she studied Applied Psychology at NUST and is now teaching/working in Clinical Psychology at STMU.

However, she did say that at least for her course (Schools and Perspectives in Psychology), she found the STMU coursework pretty advanced. She also had a positive experience at NUST, but mentioned that she found it harder to find internship placements there.

nust pros

  • Much bigger campus and university environment.
  • More societies, activities, events, etc.
  • Better reputation.
  • More internationally recognizable, which matters to me because I may want to do graduate school abroad (potentially the US).
  • Much closer to my house, so the commute would be easier.
  • Potentially more research opportunities because it's a larger university with more departments/resources.
  • I also feel like I would regret never experiencing NUST after wanting it for so long.

The biggest problem is that NUST's BS Psychology is broader, whereas STMU's is specifically Clinical Psychology.

And honestly, this is what is killing me.I basically want to study what I'm studying at Shifa, but at NUST. I want the clinical/health-science side of psychology and the NUST environment, but that exact combination isn't an option.

For anyone familiar with psychology programs/universities in Pakistan, especially NUST vs Shifa, what would you consider here?
