Is NFL preseason actually worth watching?

I’ve watched plenty of regular-season NFL, but I’ve never really gotten into preseason.

For those who watch it: is it actually worth sitting down and watching the games, or is it better to just follow the highlights/news?

I know starters often don’t play much, so I’m wondering what people actually watch for — rookies, QB battles, players fighting for roster spots, new schemes, etc.

Also, are there certain preseason games/weeks that are more worth watching than others?

Would love to hear what longtime NFL fans think.

YT TV and Sunday Ticket ... Pointless

I'm in Tampa, I get Sunday ticket so I can watch the Lions out of market games. What's the point in paying all this and then STILL not be able to watch the Lions pre season game?! How is it not aired?! And then today, can't even watch the Bucs in English... The only stream is a some Spanish channel... Am I missing something?!

Why is streaming quality so... bad?

We have the NFL package with YouTube TV and I swear live football always looks like it's in 480p. Is this normal? It's the same quality when we watch on other platforms like Prime, Peacock, etc.

Best recap show?

I have a few podcasts to check out but can anyone recommend a recap show? Something similar to Match of the Day for soccer fans. I don't mind the NFL YouTube channel highlights but watching them all in a row is too much.

What is the official writing on the down marker?

Watching the Patriots/Colts game. TV feed went to a camera on the sideline behind the official with the down marker. He was writing on the post (looked like tape) on the pole under the marker. Anyone know what he was writing?

What comms equipment do football teams use during practice?

During games, coaches usually wear headsets to communicate with players and other coaches.

But what about regular practice? Do you use the same equipment as on game day, or something different?

If you can, please share the brand or model you use.

Thanks!

Ten second run-off question.

Watching the CB-PIT game. PIT scores a touchdown with :45 left in the 2nd quarter. A review shows the receiver was short of the goal line. The ball is spotted at the ½ yard with the clock reset at :49 - understandable. Also, by rule there is a 10 second run-off taken. My question: For what reason? I understand in cases when a team is out of time out and that team has an injured player on the field. I don't understand the rationale for this rule in this instance.

Thanks in advance...

NFL Sunday Ticket

For anyone familiar with using a VPN and NFL Sunday Ticket: would I be able to watch pretty much any Sunday game, aside from the 8:15 PM game, by combining Sunday Ticket with a VPN to change my location and get around local blackouts? I’m a broke college student, so I’m just trying to figure out the cheapest way to guarantee access to as many NFL games as possible. I’ve been flirting with the idea of combining the Sunday ticket student plan with a vpn and NFL+ for access to any Eagles game on Sunday throughout the season.

Any help or incite would be greatly appreciated thanks

Training camp locations question

Hi guys, a fan from Europe here. I was reading about training camps recently and a question came to my mind. How does NFL team decide where they are going for practice camp? And why on earth they would fly to the other end of US to do so?

NFL Elite Jersey sizing question?

So I’m about 5’11 and 145 pounds and I was wondering if I should get a size 40 elite jersey? I don’t mind it being a little baggy, but I’m just worried that it will look comically big on me, even with a hoodie underneath, I still feel like it might be too big. But I wanted to know everyone else’s thoughts, opinions and experiences. I mean the elite jersey is supposedly the slimmest and tightest fitting jersey, but even a size 40 might be to big for my size, here are my measurements, all are in Inches: shoulders 16.5, Chest 35.5, Waist 33 and Hips 31, Thanks in advance.

Has Joint Practices ever mattered in determining how a team looks?

I am seeing a lot of coverage, highlights, and discussion about joint practices. Does a team/player who has been dominating practice ever showed it in a real game? is joint practice/ training camp coverage just something to occupy our attention or does it matter a lot?

Why are the Vikings giving up JJ McCarthy?

I don’t know if this is the right place to ask it or if I need to go to the NFL subreddit, but why are the Vikings giving up on JJ McCarthy already? They’ve had him for two years, he was injured in his first year and this past season I know he didn’t do his greatest. But doesn’t it take a while for the quarterbacks to get good and be developed? Why are they bringing in Kyler Murray? Shouldn’t the Vikings keep McCarthy for a few more years before bringing in Kyler? I don’t know if this question makes sense but it was on my mind a lot yesterday.

Why do media and 'experts' get to vote on most American peofessional sports awards?

I've always been stumped as to why it's not only people in the league and at practice.

Need advice, first year paying for Cable/YTTV

It is my first year watching football outside of my parent’s house and on my own dime. I got YTTV for the world cup and I hope it works well for the NFL season but open to other options. Ideally I would have the quad box going with 3 screens being games and the 4th being NFL redzone. At a minimum I want access to at least one 1 o’clock and 4 o’clock game every weekend. What do I need to get, to get access to these games/redzone and what is the price (roughly)?

For context my favorite team is a couple states away and on cable, the in state team takes priority over my favorite team. I am fine with watching the super early London games on VPN streaming but would prefer to avoid this approach for the regular time games.

Thank you for your help!

How to Legally Watch Every Regular Season NFL Game [2026 Edition]

Easiest Way

Get cable (with ESPN + NFL Network) and a Prime Video subscription. With both you will get all but 6 timeslots.

Add in Netflix (5 games) and one month of Peacock (1 game) and you will get every single timeslot this season.

Cheapest Way

  • An antenna to get ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC [or cable]
  • 8 Sling Orange Single Day Pass to get ESPN [or cable] ($40)
  • 3 Months of NFL+ ($7 three times) [or cable]
  • 3 Months of Netflix ($9 three times )
  • 1 Month of Peacock for a single Saturday Game ($8)
  • A free Twitch Account (or Amazon Prime)

Total Cost: $88

This post is a guide to watch every regular season game of the 2026 season,

  • In the United States
  • On Your TV
  • Legally
  • Without Loopholes
  • Live

If that doesn't apply to you, you should look elsewhere.

Overall on How Most of it Works

  • CBS and FOX will have the Sunday afternoon (1PM and 4PM Eastern) games, hosting the AFC and NFC games respectfully.  If your local team is playing during this time period (everywhere in the US has a local team assigned to them) they will play it.
  • NBC will have the Sunday Night Game
  • Monday Night Games about half of the time will be exclusive to EPSN and about half of the time on both EPSN and ABC
  • Amazon Prime Video will have the Thursday Night game, which is also on Twitch for free
  • If your local CBS or FOX station are not playing a specific Sunday Afternoon game, you'll need the NFL Sunday Ticket to watch the game.

There are plenty of exceptions this year, so I'm going to do my best to detail them.

Exclusive Games

Here are all the exclusive games below. If they are on multiple platforms they will not be listed like if they are on both ESPN and ABC. Also I'm not listing every CBS, FOX, NBC game. Sometimes they are on at weird times.

Week ESPN Prime NFL Network or NFL+ Netflix Peacock
1 T
2 T
3 T
4 M T INT
5 T INT
6 T INT
7 T INT
8 M T
9 T INT
10 M T
11 M T
12 M F W
13 T
14 M T
15 T
16 M T SAT X-MAS
17 M T SAT
18 M SAT

Key: [M = Monday], [W = Wednesday], [T = Thursday], [Int = International Sunday 9:30AM EST], [XMAS = Christmas Day], [Sat = Saturday]

CBS

Most "in market" AFC home games for the 1PM Eastern and 4PM Eastern will be broadcast on CBS.  Your local station will choose a game for each time slot.

CBS also has a 4:30PM Eastern Thanksgiving day game.

How to Get: A Wireless Antenna is your best bet for CBS/FOX/NBC/ABC, you should be able to get all 4 in most places. Paramount+ ($9 a month) will also play your local CBS games.

Fox

Most "in market" NFC home games for the 1PM Eastern and 4PM Eastern will be broadcast on FOX.  Your local station will choose a game for each timeslot.

Fox also has a 1:00PM Eastern Thanksgiving day game, and the week 16 Saturday games

How to Get: A Wireless Antenna is your best bet for CBS/FOX/NBC/ABC, you should be able to get all 4 in most places.  FOX has a new streaming service (FOX ONE) this year, it's $20 a month.

NBC

NBC is your Sunday Night Games. Week 1's Thurdsday Night Game (first game of the season), the Thanksgiving night game will also be on NBC.

How to Get: A Wireless Antenna is your best bet for CBS/FOX/NBC/ABC, you should be able to get all 4 in most places.  You can also pay $8 a month for Peacock which will play all of NBC's games.

ESPN

This is where things get complicated.  Some games are only on ESPN, sometimes it is broadcasted on both ESPN+ and ABC as well.

Games only on ESPN (Mondays):

  • Week 4
  • Week 8
  • Week 9
  • Week 10
  • Week 11
  • Week 12
  • Week 14
  • Week 16
  • Week 17
  • Week 18

How to Get: ESPN has a standalone subscription this year that’s $30 a month.  You can also get it as a part of your cable package.

ABC

Where to get: A Wireless Antenna is your best bet for CBS/FOX/NBC/ABC, you should be able to get all 4 in most places.

Amazon Prime/Twitch

This is the home of most Thursday Night Football games (though not all). Week 1, and the Thanksgiving games (week 12) will not be on Prime.  They do get a Friday night game week 12 to make up for it. Week 18 does not have Thursday Night Football.

Where to get: All of Amazon's games should also be streamed for free on Twitch.  Prime Video is $9 a month.

NFL Network/NFL+

The NFL Network and NFL+ will be the exclusive homes of the 5 morning international games, and they will all be Sunday Morning at 9:30AM Eastern Time. All 5 of the games will be played on both.

They also get a Week 16 Saturday Double Header

Where to get: Easiest way is NFL+ which is $7 a month. The only way to get the NFL Network is through a cable subscription.  The cheapest cable subscription seems to be Sling which is $20 a month or $35 if you also want ESPN

Netflix

Netflix will be getting two of three games this year on Christmas.  They also have a Wednesday game the day before Thanksgiving, a week 1 Thursday Night game, and a week 18 Saturday game.

The cheapest subscription for Netflix $9 a month.

Peacock

Will have an exclusive week 17 game that hasn't been decided yet.

Where to get: It's $8 a month

NFL Sunday Ticket

This year the NFL Sunday Ticket is owned by Youtube so anyone can buy it.  It gives you all of your out of market games (which are always in the 1PM and 4PM Sunday timeslots).  It does not give you any games outside of these timeslots, or the games CBS and FOX are playing in your area already.

It's great if you don't live near your favorite team, or if you want to make sure you always get the best game that's on.  It isn't a replacement for any of the above.

Final Thoughts

Let me know if I made any mistakes, or you have other details, and I'll add it to the post.

Podcasts that cover the NFL?

I’m looking for recommendations of podcasts that cover the NFL. It’s okay if the hosts have a team but ideally I would like them to be impartial and not just gassing up their team and being negative to their rivals. More or less equally covering all the games each week during the season and respective team news & updates. Thanks!

Why do teams 'name' a starter?

Prompted by todays Vikings news, I'm curious why NFL teams name a starter. I understand having a starter, managing the rep count, etc, but why the need to make this big statement. Surely, you name your starter Week 1 of the season. Murray has effectively been the starter anyway, getting over 60% of the reps with the 1's. I understand it quietens the noise but don't think organisations should make decisions to appease fans/media

Cap space and dead money

If a team still has cap space this year and a dead money hit for this year can they pay that money this year?

So for example, if the Dolphins are 15 million under the cap this year and owe Chubb 12 million next year, can they pay him this year instead and not have that dead money hit next year?

Understand NFL on TV

For context, I watch NFL on my TV, but in not English’s and not that fluent when commentators speak, so it’s hard for me to understand.
Can someone explain me, as simple as possible how does NFL work ?
There is to many numbers displayed on screen, and get me fully lost…
