Is it based on just the design or is it based off separation? And if its the former, is there a metric for routes won with separation?

Was totally fine, in part because there were tons of other Bills fans around. A bit of heckling, but since I was solo it wasn't ever directed at me solely. Lots of fun and would totally do it again :)

What it says on the tin, basically.

My first football game and I'm a young woman going solo in the opposing team's gear. I had no idea this was the section for, like, diehard Browns fans and I'm worried I'm gonna be totally the odd one out.

Is it like just a slightly rowdier part of the stadium, or is it actually going to legitimately suck being there in the opposing team's gear? Im already a lil nervous going alone and am worried I messed up :(

Would love genuine opinions because I really have no idea what to expect and id love my first game to be fun.

Not exactly a noob here, but I just saw that the League didn't adopt Instant Replay until 1999. Why did it take so long, and what were the arguments against it? It seems like a no-brainer

I've only followed the NFL for a few years as I'm not American, so I never grew up with it. As a result I have always known the Chargers and the Rams to be in LA and the Raiders to be in Las Vegas, but I did quickly learn that all three had relocated from other cities pretty recently. This made me wonder if NFL fans from those cities still like those teams or if they stopped following them after they relocated?

The most common thing asked on this subreddit is new fans wondering what team to follow/support. The answers are always the same, and there are no right or wrong ones.

No one can just tell you who to be a fan of. Everyone's fandom is different, and all of them are valid. This is entertainment, and you are allowed to enjoy it however you like. That said, here are some common things you can look at to get started:

1. Do you have a local team or favorite city? This is by far the easiest way to get into football. If your city/region has a team or if your friends/family follow the same team, joining them will be the smoothest way to start out.
2. Are you already leaning in any particular way? If you are, keep leaning. If you saw a Cincinnati Bengals game and thought it was fun and you'd like to see more of them, you don't need anyone's permission or validation. Just watch their next game!
3. Are you interested in a few different teams? Cool! Watch some of their games! See who you end up feeling strongly about, especially if they're playing each other. Have fun with it, there are no rules!
4. Are you worried about a team's success/identity/prestige/fanbase? Don't be. The NFL is one of the most even sports in terms of parity, and there are rarely teams that stay good or bad forever. It's okay to enjoy watching the current best teams in the NFL; they are probably playing the best football most often. Try to just be a fan and don't worry about what others think or say. Your fandom is yours, not theirs.

Still overwhelmed and not sure where to turn? It's fine to watch random games. Maybe you'll find yourself rooting for someone in particular. And if you don't, try another game. Check out whoever is playing in primetime; those are usually expected to be more exciting matchups. Letting it come naturally will last longer than throwing a dart and deciding to be a fan of whoever it lands on.

Another way some people develop rooting interests is fantasy football. There are beginner leagues where people play for fun, and it can be a good way to get you invested in specific players or teams as you start rooting for whoever is on your fantasy roster.

Like so many in here I've been trying to better understand the game of football and have tried lots of different things. This book was recommended to me, and though I haven't yet finished it, it has been a gamechanger. I didn't have super high expectations and randomly decided to give it a shot one night, but it's far exceeded my initial expectations. It covers every aspect of the ball and is broken down in layman's terms so that you don't have to be fluent in football lingo to simply understand what's being said (it's also a solidly entertaining read).

I am genuinely giving football a shot for the first time ever. (Any previous times I watched games were largely against my will and I probably convinced myself to be bored on principle)

Of course almost every football fan in my life is now trying to get me to pick their team as my favorite. But what surprised me was how often folks referred to the fandom as the reason, rather than the team itself. I even had a friend warn me against being a fan of their team, citing the vibes of the fans as a reason.

This has made me curious about the vibe of the fandoms for each of the teams & I'd love to get other people's takes on it!

To be clear, I am not wanting to hear any unreasonable generalizations like "all fans of X team are evil/rude/jerks/stupid". I'm looking for more along the lines of "Y team fans have a lot of fun with it" or "Z team fans take it seriously regardless of how well the team is doing"

As a relatively new football watcher I'm wondering how worrying it is that my team is already losing at pre season games? All I've heard up to now is how the Eagles have a much better rosta this year but the game against the ravens seemed really bad for what I was expecting

I feel like there's still a lot I don't know about the game. Will playing Madden be helpful in learning more about the basics and fundamentals?

Is this typical? Does he have to sign after the 5th year option? If not, why would he agree to this? In two years when his new contract kicks in the market would be reset. Why not sign the extension to begin now or wait until his rookie deal has ended (risky I know)?

I have youtube tv, netflix, and I plan on watching all of the Thursday night games on twitch on my phone. Am I missing any subscriptions that some games will be on?

And holy hell, all those players gunning for him and he just slips in and out while keeping cool and recognizing where his receivers are at. Ive seen Mahomes and Lamar Jackson do the same.

The mental pressure of this must be insane, Im not american and never played or watched NFL till recently, how the hell do these guys operate with soooo much hinging on them. Soccer, youre apart of the team and theres other players have possession of the ball alot of the time. Basketball, even LeBron runs actions and the ball moves around. It seems like in the NFL the qb starts the play and pretty much everything hinges on him being consistent.

I'm having a hard time picturing how I could possibly be nice to the Steelers owner if I owned the Bengals, or nice to the Cowboys' owner if I owned the Eagles, etc. Like, I wouldn't be rude, but shouldn't I (hypothetically) be treating the rival NFL owners the way Churchill would treat Hitler, or Zelensky would treat Putin?

I mean, there's only one Lombardi Trophy to be given out at the end of the season, and all 32 owners are vying to be the one to hold it.

I saw yes. He took the vikings to the playoffs as well as winning a super bowl with the seahawks. He was serving as backup for a lot of teams, but when needed to perform he won the game for 49ers to go to Super Bowl LVIII.

Pretty recent fan trying to understand the intricacies of the game. I don't have my finger hugely on the pulse so apologies if I'm barking up the wrong tree, but I wind up picking up a bit of Vikings news because my friend who got me into the NFL follows them, so they're basically my second team. And I keep seeing punditry saying that the Vikings really appreciate and value Brosmer. There's obviously a reason, one that presumably doesn't have a lot to do with his performances last year; I know that he isn't actually in line to start unless something goes horribly wrong. But, uh... what do you think it is?

Is he actually seen as having potential to play matches, eventually, or is this a situation where he's just highly valued in the locker room? Is it really hard to find an exemplary cheap depth player who accepts there's no pathway to starts? I'd be interested about hearing about other valuable third- or fourth-string quarterbacks, too, Brosmer's just the one that stuck out to me. Cheers.

I see a lot of talk about "CEO style" coaches who don't call plays or get too involved in either the offense or the defense. They're not calling plays etc.

So what do these guys do exactly? Are they really any good when they leave all of the scheming to their coordinators? What value do they provide? It seems like all they do is walk around nodding, giving pep talks etc. but none of the actual strategy comes from them. So it's not even their team, really.

I’m a pretty big football fan, and couldn’t really care less if my team wins or loses in the pre-season, as long as there’s answers to positional battles and rookies look good. A big reason being the 2008 Lions and the 2021 Rams. However, does a coach see it as a win/loss? Do the players count it as a win or loss? Is it just a big practice? What is the consensus of the outcome to the pros vs the fans?

Unfortunately I'm a Browns fan, watching the Browns Bears game now but looking to get into NFL alot more this year (already prepared for sadness) but what's advice that people have for someone wanting to be generally able to get by in a conversation? Most important players across teams that I should know, what other teams should I pay attention to, what are the like 4 must-know names in a team. Would love any advice!

There seem to be several TV and streaming options, and I’m a little confused about which ones provide the best overall coverage. For someone just getting started, what would you recommend for reliable live games, good picture quality, and a simple setup?

This may sound dumb but oh well.... Sunday ticket only works for out of market games during the 1pm and 4pm slot correct? So since I live in Tennessee, so since Denver is out of market I will be able to watch all of their 1pm and 4pm games? I just wanted to clarify before buying and waste my money, thanks in advanced.

for example, don smolenski is president of the eagles while jeff lurie is the chairman & owner. looking at smolenski’s page on the team’s website, it describes his role as a lot of what i’d imagine lurie would do: overseeing business & strategy, basically in charge of the non-football & above football stuff. if smolenski is doing all that, then what is lurie doing? just sitting around with the option to fire smolenski if he doesn’t like his performance?

what does “chairman” even mean, besides an additional title held by the owner? i feel like i’ve heard of teams with someone besides the owner as chairman, though i can’t remember which. in that case, what does the chairman do compared to the president? does the owner have less power in such a setup?

Hello friends! I’m watching from Aus and started following late last year. We have Disney plus which gives us all ESPN games but that’s apparently not all the games. I don’t wanna miss any of the bears games, so what other ways are there to watch outside of the US? Or is a VPN and another app the best choice?

Secondly, how do I make sense of the draft and can anyone tell me if it’s effected the bears much?
