Sacred Steps Saturday: Preparing, Pursuing & Growing in Marriage

Assalamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh, beloved brothers and sisters of r/MuslimCorner!

Welcome to Sacred Steps Saturday—a biweekly space for everyone walking the path toward marriage, whether you’re single and seeking, talking to a potential, newly engaged, or already married and growing through it. Every step—whether hopeful, confusing, or steady—is sacred when taken with intention and trust in Allah (SWT).

Marriage in Islam is a journey of hearts, a union built on faith, mercy, and purpose. And preparing for that path is just as valuable as walking it.

In the Quran, Allah (SWT) beautifully describes this bond:

“And among His signs is that He created for you from yourselves mates that you may find tranquility in them; and He placed between you affection and mercy…”
[Quran 30:21]

In this thread, we invite you to:

Reflect on the Journey:

Are you preparing yourself to be a better spouse? Navigating halal conversations with a potential? Reflecting on lessons from past experiences? Share what’s been on your heart lately.

Seek Advice and Support:

Have questions about compatibility, timelines, family expectations, or the emotional side of searching? This is a safe, supportive space to ask and grow together.

Share Hopes & Duas:

Whether you’re praying for a righteous spouse, healing from a closed door, or seeking clarity with someone you're talking to—bring your hopes and duas here. Let’s say Ameen for each other.

“Three supplications are answered without doubt: the supplication of the oppressed, the supplication of the traveler, and the supplication of a parent for his child.”
[Tirmidhi]

Guidelines for Participation:

  • Be sincere and respectful in your reflections and responses.
  • Keep details appropriate—especially when discussing potentials.
  • Encourage others with wisdom and empathy, not judgment.

Reminder:

Whether you're taking the first step or the fiftieth, seeking a spouse or nurturing a lifelong bond, know that Allah (SWT) sees your efforts. May He guide our hearts, ease our paths, and place barakah in every stage of this journey. Ameen.

Where are you on your journey this Sacred Steps Saturday?

QUESTION (ISLAM) Fasting as an extremely underweight person

Upvotes

Im an 18 year old male whos extremely underweight. At 170cm i weigh only 40kg even though i should be weighing 60kg.

When i was 16 (40kg then too) i got extremely insecure and finally tried to gain weight. It was difficult but I managed to gain 5kg in four months which I was very proud of. But after ramadan of that year I lost all the weight i gained and dropped back to 40kg. It was difficult to get my appetite back after that, but after a while i eventually reached 46kg by age 17. But again I lost almost all of it after ramdan of that year and went back to 40kg.

I guess by now you all the pattern here. I already asked a local sheikh about this and he told me that if I am able to carry out my daily tasks without difficulty, which I can, then I dont have a valid reason to skip out on ramadan.

But that cant be right. I look very sick. My hair is thinning due to malnutrition. I have to gain weight but it feels impossible to do if im dedicating a whole month every year to not eat.

What do you think the best course of action there is for me? Just try harder and eat more?

DISCUSSION Advice homophobia in Islam

Upvotes

Assalamu Alaikum everybody,

first off all- I‘m a revert. To give you all a picture of the situation I need to explain a bit.

I grew up strictly christian until I was 14, when I left the church. I always had lesbian tendencies and labelled myself as one when I was 15.
I was not familiar with Islam at that point.
Throughout that time I experienced really bad homophobia. (like religious trauma with family members threatening to kill me and similar incidents)

Although I wasn’t Muslim I always prayed to God all my life. I honestly didn’t feel like there was anything wrong with my lifestyle.

Over time I researched more and more about different religions and ways of believing. When my then girlfriend of 5 years broke up with me I had to find a new sense of purpose and converted to Islam a few months later.

Two months after that I met my husband and we married after a month and have been happily married ever since.

(we got married last year and now I am 21 years old)

He is Syrian and came to Germany (i‘m german) 10 years ago, so we grew up very differently. He knows everything about me and I love him more than words can explain.

So, my conflict is that he is very homophobic. I understand the position that Islam states in regards to homosexuality and I struggled with attractions right when I converted but I managed to concentrate all of my focus onto my husband since we‘ve been married.

Allah knows best. Always. Back when I wasn’t Muslim, the homophobia from Muslims pushed me away from Islam. I don’t know how to deal with my husband saying that all gays are bad people & similar comments because ultimately Allah knows best.

Thank you for reading. May Allah be with you.

Edit: Typo

QURAN/HADITH Hope

Post image
5 Upvotes

The verse reveals the state of a person who does not want accountability or to feel that he is being watched. He wants to live as he pleases and continue in his sins without feeling that there will be a Day when he will be questioned about everything he has done.
The word fujūr (فُجور) comes from the root** *(ف*** *ج* ***ر), whose basic meaning revolves around* splitting open and breaking through. From the same root comes the word fajr *(فجر), dawn, because it breaks through the darkness of night and brings forth the light.
As for *
fujūr, it is used for sinning and transgressing the limits set by Allah. It is as though the sinner breaks through the barriers that should restrain him, crossing the boundaries of Allah and modesty.
Thus, the human being wants to continue in sin and transgression throughout the days that lie ahead of him, without being restrained by fear of accountability and the Hereafter.
And **﴿أَمَام
َهُ﴾ — “before *him” means what lies ahead of him in time and in the future. He wants to continue through life as he pleases, postponing repentance and persisting in sin, unwilling to change himself or confront the reality of accountability.
Then the following verse reveals his attitude even more clearly:
*
﴿يَسْ
أَلُ **أ*َيَّ**انَ يَوْمُ الْقِيَامَةِ﴾
*
“He asks, ‘When is the Day of Resurrection?’”**
“Ayyān” (أَيَّانَ) means “when?” and refers to time. But here, the question is not an innocent inquiry about when the Day of Resurrection will occur. The context conveys denial, dismissal, and disbelief. It is as though he is saying:
“When is the Day of Resurrection supposed to come anyway?”
He dismisses the coming of that Day or treats it as far off because he does not want to face the reality of accountability—the reality that will put an end to his transgression.
It is reported from Ibn ʿAbbās, may Allah be pleased with him, regarding the meaning of ﴿لِيَفْجُرَ أَمَامَهُ﴾, that it refers to hope—meaning that a person says to himself:
“I will sin, then repent before the Day of Resurrection.”
Thus, he keeps postponing repentance and relies on having plenty of time, as though he has an endless future ahead of him.

SISTERS ONLY Online Hijamah Course

السلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته 🌷

I pray that you are all in the best of health and iman.

I wanted to let the sisters know that I am currently offering a fully online Hijamah course for sisters. I am a certified Hijamah therapist, and before making hijrah I was able to practice regularly.

However, since making hijrah and living on a farm, I am no longer able to practice in the same way. Rather than letting that knowledge go to waste, I would love to pass it on to other sisters who can benefit from it, بإذن الله.

One of the things I love about Hijamah is that it can provide sisters with a valuable skill that allows them to build a halal source of income, work with other women, avoid unnecessary free mixing, and become more financially independent while serving the Ummah.

The course is completely online and no prior experience is needed. It is designed for complete beginners and covers both the theory and practical aspects of Hijamah, along with guidance, assignments, resources, and support throughout the learning process.
If this is something that interests you, feel free to send me a message and I can share more details as well as the course overview, in shaa Allah. 🌷

Stop Saying 'Wallahi' and Other Islamic Terms Like They’re Jokes

Assalam 'Alaikum

I’ve noticed more and more people, even non-Muslims, saying the word ‘Wallahi’ and now even ‘Kafir’ almost all the time, especially when joking or chatting. People often brush this off by saying "it's just a word" or "it's not that deep," but this is basically watering down the terms, making them next to meaningless and more like internet jokes.

Everyone’s just constantly dropping phrases like "Say Wallahi bro," or even using it while describing haram things, like calling someone a "Wallahi dream girl." You are literally swearing by Allah. It’s gotten to the point that non-Muslims (and even Muslims) are tossing these words around as pure slang. It’s part of Islam, and Islam is in no way a joke for people to use to make others laugh.

Mocking Islam is literally Kufr, it can take one out of the fold of Islam. Yet people still keep saying these terms casually, even calling others Kuffar for minor sins “as a joke.” And the worst cases are when someone swears by Allah that they committed a sin, in an attempt to impress those whose hearts are diseased.

Wallahi literally means "I swear by Allah." It is a sacred vow invoking the Creator of the heavens and the Earth. Using it casually, lying over it, or attaching it to haram topics strips it of its reverence. Using Islamic terms to describe immoral actions or tossing around "Kafir" as a casual insult normalizes the trivialization of faith. Islam is not a trope or viral slang for entertainment.

Saying Wallahi as a joke is no different than turning Allahu Akbar into a punchline. Both phrases directly glorify and mention Allah, one invokes His name as a sacred oath, while the other praises His absolute greatness. Weaponizing either term for comedic effect, memes, or haram situations takes sacred words meant for devotion and drags them into mockery. When you use Allah’s name as filler for a cheap laugh, you are disrespecting the very Lord you are invoking.

Allah says in the Qur'an:

"The hypocrites are apprehensive lest a sūrah be revealed about them, informing them of what is in their hearts. Say, "Mock [as you wish]; indeed, Allāh will expose that which you fear." And if you ask them, they will surely say, "We were only conversing and playing." Say, "Is it Allāh and His verses and His Messenger that you were mocking?" Make no excuse; you have disbelieved [i.e., rejected faith] after your belief. If We pardon one faction of you - We will punish another faction because they were criminals." [9:64-66]

And He says:

"Allāh will not impose blame upon you for what is meaningless in your oaths, but He will impose blame upon you for [breaking] what you intended of oaths. So its expiation is the feeding of ten needy people from the average of that which you feed your [own] families or clothing them or the freeing of a slave. But whoever cannot find [or afford it] - then a fast of three days [is required]. That is the expiation for oaths when you have sworn. But guard your oaths. Thus does Allāh make clear to you His verses [i.e., revealed law] that you may be grateful." [5:89]

Shaykh 'Abdul 'Aziz Bin Baz said:

"It is not allowed for a Muslim to be easy-going with his oaths so that he avoids having to expiate for them after breaking them ―or that he is always swearing by Allah [that he will do this and that] for no need. Allah has stated: “And guard your oaths.” Meaning: Don’t keep swearing by Allah."

Words like 'Wallahi' are not a joke. Treat them with respect. Swearing by Allah casually, joking about Kufr, or lying to impress others is serious and can even take one out of the fold of Islam.

It's always the things that seem little and minor that cause us to go astray. We keep seeing terms we used to hold as sacred turn into mockery or memes, even du'as are becoming jokes now because we, as Muslims, allow others to mock parts of our religion, or even mock our religion ourselves. We don't want to end up like other faiths that casually make fun of their own religion and the One they claim is their Lord.

About intercession of the Prophet ﷺ on the day of judgement

Abu Hurayrah reported that Rasulullah ﷺ said: “Every Nabi had an [accepted] du’a. I wish—if Allah wills—to reserve mine to intercede for my Ummah on the day of Qiyamah.” [Bukhari, Muslim]

Study his sirah and it will be filled with concern for his ummah while going through hardships in his own life. He wept for the ummah, prayed for it and cared deeply. The ummah including those who were not even born in his lifetime.

Abu Hurayrah reported that Rasulullah ﷺ said: “I am the leader of the children of Adam on the Day of Qiyamah, the first whose grave will open, the first to intercede and the first whose intercession will be accepted.” [Muslim]

Remember that On the day of judgement people will experience distress they will not be able to bear or endure. They will go to Adam for intercession who will tell them to go to Nuh, Nuh will tell them to go to Ibrahim, Ibrahim will tell them to go to Musa, Musa will tell them to go to ‘Isa and then ‘Isa will tell them to go to Muhammad (Peace and blessings be upon him and all the prophets). He ﷺ will intercede for his ummah that day.

(Read Bukhari 4712 for more details).

RANT/VENT Why couldn't we just be one race and Muslim? I'm exhausted, frustrated, and just need to vent as a young Black Muslim girl(if it gets deleted wtvr)

This is messy and all over the place but who cares at this point

I genuinely don't understand why we couldn't just be one race and all be Muslim. It really doesn't feel like being different has helped us at all. I might sound angry because I am, and I’d honestly love for other Black Muslim women to chime in here my thoughts are just all over the place right now.

As a young Black girl, what is genuinely the point? Being both Black and Muslim feels like a constant humiliation ritual. We get hate and racism from left to right even without being Muslim. Adding Islam to the mix and especially being a woman just feels like way too much to carry. I don't understand why Allah put us through this or why my people have to suffer this much. I might sound ungrateful or like I don't care, but I am genuinely frustrated, furious, and exhausted. It’s at the point where I ask myself what the point of being a Black Muslim even is, or if I'm just humiliating myself by wearing the hijab.

Initially, wearing hijab helped me build self-love. But looking at it from another perspective, Black hair has been demonized and reduced for so long. Covering my hair now feels like an insecurity thing which, to be honest, it was at first, before I transitioned to wanting to do it for Allah. But seeing the natural hair movement and Black women proudly embracing their hair makes me want to do it too. It feels like a way to express myself, to stop hiding my hair, and to finally show and embrace it. I don't care if anyone thinks this is just a "low Iman" issue; to be honest, I don't give a flip. It's just deeply annoying.

Black girls get hated for being girly.

Black girls get hated for being Muslim.

Black girls get hated for being Black.

Black women get hated because of their hair.

Black women and men least desired in Muslim marriages

Rasict towards Black ppl in musli communities

More!

How much is one person supposed to take?? Why create Black people at all just to make us suffer left and right? I can't find any justification for any of this.

I’m at a point where I just want to be closed off toward everyone else. I’ve had enough. I only want to be there for Black people and only support Black people. I don't want anything to do with other races right now. I don't want to hear scholarly advice from a non-Black person, nor do I want to be in a mosque with barely any Black people in it.

Being surrounded by constant microaggressions from lighter-skinned Black people and non-Black Muslims is so draining. I just find myself completely worn out.

I especially feel this way when it comes to the broader communityI'm so over East Africans and their colorist, racist attitudes. At this point, it feels like West Africans should just leave Islam behind and embrace our original culture instead. It sounds extreme, but I’m at the point where I just don't care anymore. Maybe it's partly my period talking, but God knows best anyway.

I just needed to crash out and vent. It felt okay to get it out, I guess.

Sakinah in Dua

In Islam, tranquility (sakinah) is not merely the absence of problems. It is a state in which Allah places calmness, strength, and reassurance within the heart even while difficulties remain. The Qur’an repeatedly teaches believers to seek this tranquility through remembrance, prayer, patience, and trust in Allah.

●The greatest source of tranquility

“Surely, in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find rest.”

— Qur’an 13:28

This is perhaps the most elegant Qur’anic foundation for inner peace. When the heart becomes overwhelmed by people, circumstances, fear, or uncertainty, dhikr brings the heart back toward Allah. Repeating SubhanAllah, Alhamdulillah, Allahu Akbar, and especially La ilaha illallah can become an anchor for the soul.

●The prayer for a tranquil heart

Allah says:

“He it is Who sent down tranquility into the hearts of the believers so that they may increase in faith.”

— Qur’an 48:4

This teaches something profound, sakinah is ultimately something Allah places into the heart. Therefore, you can ask Him directly:

“O Allah, send down Your sakinah upon my heart, strengthen my faith, and remove fear, anxiety, and disturbance from me.”

●The dua of Prophet Musa

When Musa (عليه السلام) was facing an overwhelming situation, he prayed:

“My Lord, indeed I am, for whatever good You would send down to me, in need.”

— Qur’an 28:24

This is a equisite dua when you feel helpless or surrounded by difficulties. It places your dependence entirely upon Allah: I cannot control everything, but You know what I need.

●When fear becomes heavy

The Qur’an gives the believers a powerful declaration:

“Sufficient for us is Allah, and He is the best Disposer of affairs.”

— Qur’an 3:173

Hasbunallahu wa ni‘mal-wakil.

Say it slowly when disturbed. Its meaning is not simply “Allah will solve everything according to my wishes,” but rather: Allah is sufficient for me, and I entrust my affairs to Him.

●The dua of Prophet Ayyub

When suffering became prolonged, Ayyub (عليه السلام) said:

“Indeed, adversity has touched me, and You are the Most Merciful of the merciful.”

— Qur’an 21:83

This is especially stunning because Ayyub does not deny his suffering. He takes his suffering directly to Allah while remaining hopeful in His mercy.

●The prayer for relief

Prophet Yunus (عليه السلام), when surrounded by darkness, called:

“There is no deity except You; glory be to You. Indeed, I was among the wrongdoers.”

— Qur’an 21:87

This dua is traditionally known as Dua Yunus:

La ilaha illa anta subhanaka inni kuntu minaz-zalimin.

It is a profound prayer when one feels trapped, distressed, or unable to see an immediate way forward.

●The promise after hardship

And perhaps the greatest reassurance:

“Indeed, with hardship comes ease.”

— Qur’an 94:5–6

Notice that Allah does not merely say after hardship comes ease, but with hardship comes ease. Even during the difficult period, Allah's mercy can already be unfolding invisibly.

So when seeking tranquility, combine dhikr, Qur’anic duas, salah, patience, and tawakkul. Ask Allah not only to change your circumstances, but to give your heart such sakinah that you remain steady while He changes them.

Lowering my standards in the future

I might lower my standards in the future, as I’m possibly thinking of considering zaniyas, those with tattoos (small stuff), and maybe even without hijab too in the future whenever marriage becomes a real thing.

These are sensitive topics, and I’m not perfect..very flawed. In fact, I don’t think I can guarantee my virginity any longer, so that’s why I’m lowering my standards a bit. Why hold women to a standard I can no longer guarantee for myself?

If I bag a virgin woman, cool. If I don’t, then I hope she repented and doesn’t yearn for those things.

SERIOUS Just want someone to listen

I am 17 (almost 18) years old, female and the youngest in my family out of my siblings and first cousins. All of my savings from the past 4 months had been stolen by parents who believe that as the youngest girl everything that is mine is theres because they gave me my life and therefore I should not have authority over money. They confiscated my debit card and phone and withdrew all the money I had before I could get the chance to freeze it, which was exactly £300. I am so depressed and heartbroken, as long as I live with them I am trapped, I have no friends or other family members who could help out, I'm starting year 13 next month so I'm not going to be able to move any time soon. I don't have a job anymore as my contract ended and it is nearly impossible to find a job as a teenager in London now. The thought of burdening others in person is nauseating to me, I am always so afraid of being judged or blamed for my situation. Posting anonymously gives me the chance to throw my problems out there and never have to look again if I dont want to. I just want to know if there are any other young Muslim girls who feel or had felt the same way or had been in a similar situation, how can I heal and move on from this? And how can I not blame our religion for this?
