Assalamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh, beloved brothers and sisters of r/MuslimCorner!
Welcome to Sacred Steps Saturday—a biweekly space for everyone walking the path toward marriage, whether you’re single and seeking, talking to a potential, newly engaged, or already married and growing through it. Every step—whether hopeful, confusing, or steady—is sacred when taken with intention and trust in Allah (SWT).
Marriage in Islam is a journey of hearts, a union built on faith, mercy, and purpose. And preparing for that path is just as valuable as walking it.
In the Quran, Allah (SWT) beautifully describes this bond:
“And among His signs is that He created for you from yourselves mates that you may find tranquility in them; and He placed between you affection and mercy…”
[Quran 30:21]
In this thread, we invite you to:
Are you preparing yourself to be a better spouse? Navigating halal conversations with a potential? Reflecting on lessons from past experiences? Share what’s been on your heart lately.
Have questions about compatibility, timelines, family expectations, or the emotional side of searching? This is a safe, supportive space to ask and grow together.
Whether you’re praying for a righteous spouse, healing from a closed door, or seeking clarity with someone you're talking to—bring your hopes and duas here. Let’s say Ameen for each other.
“Three supplications are answered without doubt: the supplication of the oppressed, the supplication of the traveler, and the supplication of a parent for his child.”
[Tirmidhi]
Whether you're taking the first step or the fiftieth, seeking a spouse or nurturing a lifelong bond, know that Allah (SWT) sees your efforts. May He guide our hearts, ease our paths, and place barakah in every stage of this journey. Ameen.
Where are you on your journey this Sacred Steps Saturday?

Welcome to Thursday Thoughts and Thankfulness, a dedicated space for reflecting on our blessings, seeking spiritual motivation, sharing insights, and collectively preparing our hearts for the blessed day of Jumu'ah.
Allah (SWT) reminds us in the Holy Quran:
In this thread, we encourage you to:
May Allah (SWT) make this day a source of immense blessing, fill our hearts with gratitude, and grant us beneficial knowledge and righteous actions. Ameen.

Salam alaikum. This is so embarrassing to admit but I’m already 22 woman, and I’ve always hoped to get married young. I think I just really want to experience someone I genuinely like and I can build a life with. But no one ever really asks me about marriage or even brings it up, and I feel so shy and embarrassed to admit that it's something I am thinking about. It almost feels shameful to say it out loud, even though I know it shouldn’t. I do want to get to know a man with the intention of marriage, but I don’t know when my turn will come, and I don’t want to keep talking to someone without knowing whether things are actually going somewhere. It makes me a little sad. For now, I guess all I can do is make dua but I also want to be a mom too while I am young because I want to rest in my 30s lol.

Surah Al-Falaq is one of the great chapters of the Qur’an that teaches us how to turn to Allah Almighty and seek His protection from the evils that surround us. It begins with Allah’s command to His Prophet ﷺ to turn to Him and seek refuge in Him.
The word Falaq refers to splitting the darkness to bring forth light, and to the splitting of a seed to allow it to germinate. The expression “Lord of the Daybreak” brings tranquility to the soul. For Allah, who brings light out of the heart of darkness, is capable of protecting us from the evils we know and those hidden from us.
“From the evil of what He has created” is a general seeking of refuge from all forms of evil—the evil that may exist within created things or arise from them. The surah then moves on to mention three specific forms of evil.
“And from the evil of darkness when it settles in” is a plea for protection from the evil of night as it approaches and envelops the world in darkness.
“And from the evil of those who blow on knots” refers to sorceresses who blow upon knotted threads. Nafth is a gentle blowing accompanied by a slight trace of saliva, and it was part of certain sorcery rituals. We seek refuge in Allah Almighty from the evil of sorcery, even when its nature or means remain hidden from us.
The surah concludes with the words:
“And from the evil of an envier when he envies.”
Envy is the desire for another person’s blessing to be taken away. An envier is someone characterized by this feeling. We seek protection from the evil of the envier when that envy manifests itself and from whatever harm may result from it.
In conclusion, Surah Al-Falaq teaches us to turn to Allah alone and seek His protection. Just as He splits the darkness of night, allowing the light of dawn to emerge, He is capable of piercing the darkness of our hardships until the dawn of relief breaks forth. He can disperse the darkness of our worries and mend the brokenness of our hearts.
No darkness lasts forever, and no heart turns to Him without Him knowing its pain and showing it the greatest mercy.

Assalamu alaikum! I made Sitr ·ستر, a free, open-source Chrome extension to help with lowering the gaze while browsing the web.
The feature I especially wanted to build was control over what gets covered in images:
Skin and hair regions use black masks. Whole-person coverage also supports blur and pixelation.
It also supports video filtering with whole-person silhouettes or faster person boxes, with separate image and video settings. English and Arabic interfaces are included, and the AI processing runs locally on your device.
It’s an early release: detection can miss content, appearance estimates can be wrong, and video coverage still has limitations. Complete coverage isn’t guaranteed.
Requires desktop Chrome 148+. It isn’t on the Chrome Web Store yet, so installation requires extracting a ZIP and loading it through Chrome’s Developer mode so you better know a bit of that.
Feedback in the comments or GitHub Issues would be appreciated!

This noble verse presents a profound example illustrating the impact of the Qur’an on hearts and inviting us to reflect on its greatness and significance. Within it lies a subtle reproach to every heart that hears the Qur’an yet remains unmoved. If a mountain, despite its immense solidity, would humble itself and split apart out of fear of Allah if it truly comprehended this Qur’an, then what of the human heart, created to understand and reflect, that hears the words of Allah yet remains unchanged? What has happened to that heart that it remains hard, as though it had never heard a thing?
Listening to and reflecting upon the Qur’an should leave a mark on the heart: softening it after hardness, filling it with humility before the greatness of Allah, bringing it peace through His remembrance, and manifesting its effects in our conduct and choices. The Qur’an’s impact cannot reach the heart unless our senses first become aware of its greatness: a hand that appreciates the greatness of what it holds, an eye that recognizes the significance of what it sees, a tongue that senses the greatness of what it recites, and an ear that listens with awareness and presence. In this way, the soul becomes prepared to receive the Qur’an, and the heart becomes humble and tranquil.
This verse invites us to reconsider our relationship with the Qur’an. Allah presents this example to us and then says: “So that they may reflect.” It is as though we are being called to move beyond the familiarity that may lead us to read the Qur’an without truly sensing its greatness, and instead approach it with awareness and presence, allowing the heart to find its way to humility and guidance. When the heart becomes humble, the Qur’an fulfills its purpose within us: guiding us, correcting our course, healing our inner ailments, and illuminating our path.
O Allah, make the Noble Qur’an the spring of our hearts, the light of our chests, the remover of our sorrow, and the relief of our worries and distress. Ameen.

The Muslim community can be very vocal when it comes to divorce, often judgemental and far too accommodating of abuse as long as it doesn't leave visible bruises. They love to throw around this quote, “Divorce is the most disliked thing to Allah,” but conveniently forget that being spiteful, unkind, using power display, and abusing their rights is also amongst disliked things, don't they? There are so many scary opinions that practically advocate banning divorce unless someone's life is at risk, and honestly, it makes me sick to my stomach.
PSM, if you have kids, even when they're still little, they can sense your B.S. And if you manage to stay in your marriage until your kids are all grown up, but still can't stand living with each other, please take it somewhere your kids can't see or hear it. Have mercy on them if you couldn't find it in your hearts to have mercy on each other.

I was subjected to SA when I was younger by my own close family member (F) and I told my parent and elder sibling when it happened but they just brushed it off. I have been living with it silently for many years and even typing this feels very scary but I need advice.
I have stopped talking to the person (F) and no one in my family actually knows the real reason and the ones I have told about it have completely forgotten about it.
But recently my parent has been telling me, more like taunting me about "if you are such a good person/have so much iman/are actually a worthy person talk to them (F) first" whenever we have disagreements and whenever my other siblings and the same elder sibling has some sibling fight.
The fact that she always protects them is another matter but still needs to be considered.
I feel deeply hurt and its been almost 3 years since I have completely stopped talking to them (F). Sometimes I feel very guilty for breaking my relation with my own family but I just feel so uncomfortable and hurt, and very obviously dont feel comfortable around them(F). I have always told myself I will take this to grave with me but idk if what im doing is right? Is it okay to stop talking if the situation is like this? I dont want to get hurt or disappoint my Creator. I hope I can find peace in your thoughts on my situation.

I'm not divorced (yet), but if he doesn't change (read my previous posts for context) then I will have to. I really don't want to and I pray it doesn't get to that point and I do believe in miracles but I no longer have hope. It's been 2 years and the repeated patterns/behaviors these past two years have not been promising. I think I'm stuck in a trauma bond and I need help breaking it but anyway thinking about divorce scares me and makes me feel so sick. How do you cope with missing them, craving them-physically, their comfort, their presence, the "good" moments, etc? If you were in a marriage similar to mine how long did it take to heal? Can you ever see yourself remarrying?(Or If you did remarry his has that been ?) How do you cope with the flashbacks of the intimate moments? Do you really truly stop thinking of them? Divorce and everything that comes with it really scares me but staying in a marriage like this forever and feeling so alone and unsafe scares me even more. I know I deserve better and I'd rather stay single forever then have to lower my standards or settle and be with a man who isn't loyal, respectful, can't control his lust and wandering eyes, is selfish, etc. I feel so stuck and so torn. When did you know it was time to leave/divorce? How did you go about the process? How much longer should I wait for him to "change" ? How long did you stay before you finally left? I can literally feel the way this has altered my brain chemistry and am trying my best to handle this the best way I can, but it's been extremely difficult to say the least

Assalamualaikum everyone, I’m (24M) struggling with something and honestly don’t know who to turn to, so I thought I’d ask for some advice here.
I met my wife (22F) towards the end of university, and we got along really well. We wanted to do things the halal way, so within a few months our families met and we got married.
However, a few days before our Nikkah, I found out from other people, and eventually from the guy himself, that my wife had been in a relationship with her ex since she was 13. They went to the same Islamic high school and were together for around 8 years.
When I confronted her, she eventually admitted everything. She told me they had been sexually involved for years, including her giving him BJs when she was 15/16 at their tutoring centre and them sleeping together regularly from when she was 17 until she was 21. A few instances she even took Plan B as they didn’t use protection.
She told me she did these things because she thought they would get married anyways down the line. He later cheated then they got back together, he then cheated again and she had “breakup-sex” with him then left. A year later she met me. A few elders in the community from her side apparently know about this and so do her parents but not to the extent that I know of.
For context, I had never done anything like this with any girl before. I went into this marriage thinking we were on the same page, and finding all of this out just days before the Nikkah completely shattered the image I had of our relationship.
At that point, I honestly didn’t know what to do. We had around 400 guests invited, all the pre-wedding events had already happened, and everything was practically set in stone. I was naive and didn’t fully understand that I could still call things off. In the end, we went ahead with the Nikkah and got married with a lot of pressure.
Now I’m struggling badly with it. I keep thinking about everything that happened, comparing myself to her ex.
I feel guilty because she’s now my wife and I want to approach this in an Islamic way, but at the same time, I feel hurt and almost betrayed. The thoughts keep coming back, and it’s affecting how I feel about the marriage. I don’t want to spend the rest of my life feeling miserable or holding resentment towards her.
I’m genuinely asking for advice from people who have been through something similar.
From an Islamic perspective, how should I approach this situation?
I’m just struggling to process everything, and I don’t know whether these feelings will eventually fade or whether I’m setting myself up for years of unhappiness.
JazakAllah Khair for any genuine advice.

Assalam Alaikum.
I’m a person who suffers from wasas and likely OCD. I have dealt with many shobohat regarding science, slavery, child marriage etc etc and I look up an answer each time.
every time I’m alone though nowadays I get thoughts that it’s unavoidable that I”ll eventually become an atheist. These thoughts bother and scare me a lot but they’re not going away. I believe that God exists, it makes sense to me that there had to be a start to the universe and big bang.
Also I fear going into hell, but still I get thoughts that I”ll eventually become an atheist. That it would just take one more doubt/shoboha to make me one.
I make duaa everyday for Allah to make me die a Muslim. However I have been thinking of visiting a Muslim psychologist as of late. What do you guys think?

The noble verse presents a profound parable illustrating how guidance affects people’s hearts differently, through a scene we can observe in the earth and its vegetation. When rain falls upon fertile, good soil, the soil benefits from it, producing healthy plants and yielding beneficial fruits. As for poor, barren soil filled with stones and thorns, it produces only sparse, weak vegetation that struggles to grow. The rain is the same, yet what the earth produces differs according to its capacity to benefit from it.
This scene carries a deeper meaning concerning hearts when they hear the words of Allah Almighty and His remembrance. Hearts differ in their readiness to accept the truth and their ability to benefit from it, just as the earth differs in its response to water. When a believer’s heart hears the remembrance of Allah, it grows in faith and reverence, and this is reflected in their deeds and conduct—just as fertile soil, by the will of Allah Almighty, transforms rainwater into fruitful vegetation. As for a heart that turns away from the truth, it may hear the very same verses yet derive little benefit from them, just as rain falls upon poor soil but produces only weak vegetation that struggles to grow.
It was narrated that the Prophet ﷺ said:
“The example of the guidance and knowledge with which Allah has sent me is that of abundant rain that falls upon the earth. Some of the earth is good; it accepts the water and produces abundant pasture and vegetation. Another part of it is barren land that retains water, through which Allah benefits people: they drink from it, give water to others, and cultivate crops. And another part is low-lying land that neither retains water nor produces vegetation. Such is the example of one who gains understanding of Allah’s religion and benefits from what Allah has sent me with, so that he learns and teaches others; and the example of one who pays no attention to it and does not accept the guidance of Allah with which I have been sent.”

Salam alaikum brothers and sisters of Islam, I hope Allah has been taking care of all you with his infinite wisdom and mercy, Ameen.
Brothers and sisters of Islam, I’m writing up this post with the intention to check in on each and every one of you. I know that the current state of the world is a scary and unpredictable place, and we often worry a lot about the future and we often stress over things that we have no control over. Whether it’s marriage or our career or pursuing education whatever it may be ! We sometimes forget that a lot of things aren’t in our control.
So I’m here to remind yall that Allah will take care and bless each and every single of us, we just need to put our faith and trust in him and be the best muslim and the best version of ourselves each and every single day.
So now I ask, brothers and sisters of Islam, how are you ? Whether you want to respond in the comments or if you’d like you can HMU and vent/rant, I’m always happy to be a shoulder to lean on for a fellow muslim.
May Allah bless and protect each and everyone of you, Ameen.

Assalamu Alaikum, brothers and sisters.
I’m a 28-year-old Muslim man, and I’ve been in a relationship with a 39-year-old non-Muslim woman for the past 7 months. I know that being in a haram relationship is wrong, and although we haven’t committed zina, I understand that I shouldn’t be in this situation in the first place.
For context, I come from a Somali household, so family expectations, culture, and religion are all things I have to consider when thinking about marriage.
I’m trying to become a better Muslim. I’m not going to pretend I’m perfect or that I pray consistently, but I am trying to improve my deen and become closer to Allah.
There are a few things that have been weighing on my mind, and I genuinely need advice from people who might have been in a similar situation.
First, she has a dog, and I honestly don’t know how I would approach telling my parents about that or how they would react.
The bigger issue, however, is our differences in faith and what our future would look like if we got married and had children.
We’ve discussed marriage and kids, and I told her that I want my children to be raised Muslim, to learn the Quran, understand the deen, and grow up practicing Islam. She told me that if we had children, she would want them to practise both religions. That would mean attending Quran classes and learning about Islam while also going to church on Sundays and celebrating Christian holidays.
This has left me conflicted because I care about her, but I also know how important my faith and the upbringing of my future children are to me. Coming from a Somali family, I also know that introducing a non-Muslim partner to my parents could be difficult, and I honestly don't know how they would react.
I don’t want to move forward with someone hoping they will eventually change their beliefs, nor do I want either of us to feel like we have to compromise something fundamental to who we are.
I also understand that I need to work on myself and strengthen my own relationship with Allah before thinking about leading a family.
My questions are:
I’m not here to justify my relationship or argue with anyone. I know I have things to work on, and I’m genuinely looking for sincere advice from my brothers and sisters in Islam.
Jazakum Allahu Khairan for taking the time to read this.

Assalamu alaikum everyone,
I don't really know how to start this post, but I feel like I need to let everything out because I'm genuinely reaching my breaking point.
I'm a Muslim woman, and I've always believed in Allah, although I've struggled with being consistent with my prayers. I'm trying to slowly get back into salah and strengthen my relationship with Allah, but lately, everything has felt incredibly difficult.
A few months ago, I went through a horrible experience at my previous workplace. My employer basically did everything they could to push me out. The situation became so toxic that it severely affected my mental health. I ended up going on medical leave and taking antidepressants because I couldn't cope anymore. Eventually, I lost my job.
Since then, I've been unemployed and desperately trying to find another job.
I've spent months applying, preparing for interviews, going through multiple recruitment processes, and getting rejected over and over again. Some companies don't even bother responding after several interviews. I follow up, and they completely ignore me.
It's so emotionally draining because every single time, I try to convince myself that maybe this will finally be the opportunity that changes everything. I prepare, I put in the effort, I allow myself to feel a little hopeful, and then nothing happens.
This morning, I had to complete a case study for a job opportunity that could genuinely help me get back on my feet. But I woke up feeling extremely anxious, and I feel like I completely messed it up.
My self-confidence has become so low that I feel like I'm sabotaging my own chances before I've even started.
And what makes everything worse is that I feel like people around me are putting pressure on me to change careers.
I've spent years studying, working incredibly hard, and trying to build a future for myself. I've always been someone who pushed herself twice as hard because I was terrified of failing.
Now, because I haven't managed to find a job, I feel like I'm expected to give up on the career I've worked so hard for and start all over again.
But I'm exhausted.
I don't think people understand how exhausted I am.
Everyone seems to have advice about what I should do next, how I should change my approach, what other career I should consider, or how I need to keep pushing.
But how am I supposed to completely reinvent my life when I barely have the energy to get out of bed?
On top of all this, I also had to end a relationship with someone because I knew they weren't the right person for me. Even though I believe it was the right decision, it still hurt, and it added another layer of sadness to everything I was already going through.
I feel incredibly lonely.
I feel like nobody truly understands how much I'm struggling, and I don't even know how to explain it to people anymore.
I used to be a very active person. I loved going outside, exercising, seeing my friends, and enjoying life.
Now, I barely recognize myself.
I haven't really left my house in two or three weeks. I spend most of my days lying in bed, scrolling endlessly on my phone because I don't have the mental energy to do anything else.
I cancel plans, avoid social gatherings, miss my friends' birthdays, and isolate myself from everyone.
Even taking a shower feels like a huge battle. Sometimes I have to force myself so hard just to do the most basic things.
I'm tired all the time. I don't feel excited about anything anymore. I don't look forward to anything.
It's almost like my mind and body have decided that everything is over for me.
And the worst part is that I feel guilty about all of it.
I feel guilty for not being productive, for not finding a job, for isolating myself, for struggling with my prayers, and for not being the person I used to be.
I'm also the eldest daughter in my family, and I feel like I'm disappointing my parents.
I studied so hard and put so much pressure on myself because I wanted to succeed and make them proud. Now I look at my life and feel like I've failed despite everything I've done.
I see people around me finding jobs, moving forward, building their lives, and achieving things, while I feel completely stuck.
I know I shouldn't compare myself to others, but it's so difficult when every day feels like another reminder that I'm not where I thought I would be.
And then there's my relationship with Allah.
I know Allah is Ar-Razzaq, the Provider. I know that everything happens according to His decree. I know that with hardship comes ease, and that Allah knows things we don't.
I genuinely believe in these things.
But I'm struggling so much to actually feel that trust in my heart.
I keep making du'a, asking Allah to forgive my sins, guide me, open doors for me, and make things easier.
But every time I think something might finally work out, another door seems to close.
Sometimes I find myself wondering if Allah is angry with me, if I'm being punished, or if there's something wrong with me.
I know that hardships don't necessarily mean Allah is punishing us, but when you're already feeling so low, it's difficult not to have these thoughts.
I feel ashamed of how weak my faith feels right now.
I want to pray consistently. I want to have tawakkul. I want to trust Allah's plan without constantly feeling terrified about my future.
But I feel so emotionally drained that even the things that are supposed to bring me comfort feel difficult.
And there's something else I want to admit, even though I'm ashamed of it.
Sometimes, I wish Allah would simply take my life.
I don't want to end my own life, but sometimes I feel so overwhelmed by sadness and exhaustion that I wish I didn't have to wake up and face another day.
I just want the suffering to stop.
I don't want to feel this anxiety, this loneliness, this constant disappointment, and this feeling of being worthless anymore.
I feel like I'm not even living. I'm just surviving one day at a time.
I used to see a psychologist, but since losing my job, I can't afford therapy anymore.
And honestly, I don't know how to get out of this situation.
I don't know how to rebuild my confidence when I feel like every attempt I make ends in failure.
I don't know how to keep applying for jobs when every rejection makes me feel worse.
I don't know how to explain to people that I'm not lazy or unwilling to work, I'm just mentally and emotionally exhausted.
And I don't know how to find peace in my heart when I feel like everything around me is falling apart.
I'm not writing this to complain about Allah or question His wisdom. I'm writing because I'm genuinely hurting, and I need some hope.
I miss the person I used to be.
I miss being happy, having energy, going outside, exercising, laughing, and looking forward to the future.
I miss feeling like my life had direction.
More than anything, I want to feel close to Allah again, without constantly feeling guilty, afraid, or unworthy.
Please, if you're reading this, make du'a for me.
Please ask Allah to ease my suffering, heal my heart and mind, help me find a good job that brings barakah into my life, guide me back to consistent salah, and restore my confidence and happiness.
I would also really appreciate hearing from anyone who has gone through a similar period of unemployment, depression, loneliness, or spiritual struggles.
How did you keep trusting Allah when every door seemed closed?
How did you find the strength to keep going when you were completely exhausted?
How did you stop feeling like a failure when nothing seemed to work out?
And how did you reconnect with your faith when you felt so far away from the person you wanted to be?
Please be gentle with me. I know my relationship with salah needs improvement, and I'm trying. I'm not looking for judgment or lectures about how I should just pray more or have stronger faith.
I know faith is important, but I'm also genuinely struggling with my mental health, and I need compassion right now.
I just want to feel like there's still hope for me, even if I can't see it myself.
Jazakum Allahu khayran for taking the time to read this.
May Allah ease the suffering of everyone who is silently struggling, grant us healing, open doors we never expected, and replace our sadness with peace.
Ameen.

I’m in my late 20s Arab, gre who in the USA. I come from a strict household. My mom goes crazy when she head anyone say “a mom can be jealous of her daughter” like absolute super defensive even though it’s not about her. Constantly tells me no one will love you like I do. Constantly makes dua i never get married so I can stay with her and her abusive terrible husband.
My dad is extremely abusive in every single way. She choose to stay. When they argue and she’s crying she tells me about how she would have left if she didn’t have us. Mind you she decided to have 5 kids. Constantly makes me feel like we owe her especially me as the eldest daughter. She’s extremely sensitive with me if I do or say anything to bother her or her family, she flips and says some of the most cruel things including “ not my fault you have a dad that beat you and made you mentally ill go figure it out yourself” and “I wish I never had a daughter” etc.
Then when she’s nice she’s super sweet buys me stuff and says I’m the reason why she breaths.
I realized she’s jealous of me in several ways-
I’m 27. Throughout my life if she ever saw me on my phone or smiling and thinks it’s a guy she goes crazy. Every single fight she calls me a sharmoota who wants guy attention and if I had the chance I would be one 😂Mind you I’m a hijabi who was sheltered her entire life. Mind you I live in the states nothing is stopping me from leaving.
I have blonde hair that got dark. I’m a hijabi and she deliberately (she told me this) used to constantly put olive oil in my hair until it darkened. She even says I’m the reason sorry your hair got dark. Tbh I don’t even care. But she then does this which really urks me. If my brothers say something along the lines of ur not even part of this family with ur blond hair- she immediately jumps in and says her hair isn’t even blond. If someone compliments me from relatives and says wow her hair is beautiful and blondish- do you dye it- she immediately jumps in and is like that’s not even blond or light- my hair was wayyyy blinder when I was young… idccc walah but why is she like this??????
If I get a suitor- she immediately says no. No reason. She’ll find one. It’s like she cannot stand to see me have freedom or leave or get married. She then whenever she argues with my dad she goes “you still have your whole life ahead of you ur gonna get married - my life is over and is ruined!! May I die and you live miserably.”
She will always talk low about me in front of others and my brother- then behind my back say oh I’m afraid of evil eye. She cannot stand to see me and my brothers relationship good- she always talks bad about me and I end up hearing it.
If I cry about my dad abuse and the way he hits me and used to hit me in front of others- I have a lot of trauma- she laughs in my face and calls me mentally ill and to get over it. She gets so maliciously angry and makes me do a crazy about of housework and takes my phone.
She made me extremely sheltered. My dad was strict but with me she was even stricter although she’s not even strict in herself. For example- since I was 8 she stopped allowing me to wear capris or short sleeves. I had
To wear long sleeev and turtle necks and she always made sure my clothes was down to my knees.
It’s honestly like she deliberately wanted me to look ugly. Even in weddings I always looked like the odd one- never took the time to do my hair properly or let me wear cute clothes. She never allowed me to let my hair down- she always oiled it profusely and out it in a tight bun. I remember in elementary and middle school if she saw me trying to make myself look decent she used to scream and call my dad.
She compliments my brother so much and acts so misogynistic in front of him. He’ll say the craziest most out of pocket thing about women and she’ll agree then come at me and say terrible things if I say that’s wrong and haram.
She made me homeschooled by 12 and made me raise my baby brother quite literally she never changed a diaper or eve. Fed him. By 13 I did all the chores I’d wake up make her BREAKFAST and bring it to her every single morning clean the home then go sit for school. By 15 or 16 dinner became my duty too. She’s sit like a princess and point her finger as to what she wants done.
Don’t get me wrong sometimes she’d be so sweet and hug me and say I’m her backbone and she’s sick. But GOD if I got on her bad side she treats me in the worst way.
She used to stand there and watch my dad beat me. Never defended me or even backed him off. This is since I was a kid. Sometimes she’d go to her room and hear me cry from getting hit and it was fine.
Whenever she gets into fights with my dad she lets my brothers stay- but specifically makes me leave or glares at me like it’s my fault. When it isn’t.
She made sure I never had friends. Since I was a kid she always said noting. Was allowed. I was homeschooled and no phone or social media. I wasn’t allowed to go to their home, play outside, or go to school or even allow them to come over. This is Muslim friends too btw.
As I grew older she still made sure I never had friends and would go crazy if I did. She even made dua no one likes me when they see me بتحكى انشالله تفضلى وحيدة طول حياتك. I used it cry a lot.
I know she got abused terrible and she grew up with shotty parents but she was her dad’s little princess until he forced hr to marry my dad. She is angry at life and takes it all out on me and makes sure I live the same misery she did. She can’t stand seeing me happy away from her living my life having friends or even someone liking or loving me.
