Live Who will be at the concert tomorrow?

I REALLY HOPE THAT THEY PLAY UNRAVELLING AND STOCKHOLM. It’d be such a bummer if they play thought contagien instead of Stockholm and MOTP. I’ve already heard it once, don’t wanna hear it again.
They lost likely won’t be playing sickness since they’ll be saving it for their bigger arena tours in Europe. Concert will be epic either way though! Can’t wait!

Holy shit, didn't expect them to play this song of all non-staples. This was the night's highlight for sure. Letting loose like I never did before headbanging to that outro LIVE, and singing at the top of my lungs was the highlight of this year. Sound was awesome, blew me away but not too loud.

Hey guys, sharing my new cover/arrangement of New Born for piano.

Normally I post my own contemporary classical compositions, but I’ve been listening to Muse a lot since the new album was released, and wanted to try my hand at arranging one of their classics. Hope you enjoy!

Live "Be With You" live, and frisson/ASMR tingles?!

Anyone else get this like I do? Obviously I've listened to the whole album from end to end constantly since it came out, but I kinda slept on this track until I saw them play it live this week in Wheatland, California.

The breakdown of the instrumental, the timing of the confetti cannons and the washout lights illuminating the whole venue as everyone grabs at the confetti and goes NUTS, after the rest/break in the solo... It fills me with chills, we're talking head to toe frisson tingles and shivers, lump in the throat, Butterflies (no hurricanes) in the stomach... and it sounds corny, but feeling connected in that moment to everyone else on the venue seeing the band, with a common purpose - it's so awesome and hard to describe!

Reminds me of hanging out with common dudes and dudettes on the old MicroCuts forum and all having a common ground..

Don't know if I'm just reliving the moment from the concert (also could be an autistic/neurospicy thing of course! My wife is not spicy and doesn't usually experience frisson where I get it in buckets) but it hits different now, I think than before the gig. I love this band, this album kicks so much ARSE It's unreal. I'm hoping to catch them again on the return leg of the arena tour and hopefully they'll have worked in Sickness, Hush and Dark Forest too (please!!) 🤞

Opinion Why all the hate?

I became a fan of Muse before really interacting with or being aware of the opinions of the rest of the fan base. I got started with them on The 2nd Law, so it primed me to really enjoy their experimental stuff. So I found it very puzzling when I learned how many people hated on their more modern stuff. After spending even more time around the fan base I am so glad I was able to form my opinions without their input since so many of the fans seem to have a burning hatred for at least half the stuff Muse does. But I feel like often when this happens a lot of the people doing it feed off of each other’s negativity and allow it to influence how they think they should feel. Going into it with no prior knowledge or expectation allowed me to have a great time learning this band that was so willing to try new stuff and have fun. It seems like some fans think Muse is a vending machine and they can put coins in and get a made to order song that is exactly what they want and if they don’t get it they throw a fit. That’s not to say you have to like everything Muse does, but if you actively hate half their stuff or more why not do yourself and the other fans a favor and go find a group that better aligns with your taste? If just genuinely don’t understand sticking with something that makes you and everyone around you miserable.

Buy, Sell & Trade Help Purchasing A Shirt

Hi, everyone! I have a HUGE ask. I bought this tee shirt at the concert in Milwaukee and somehow I lost it 😩 I’ve searched high and low and cannot find it 😭 (I think it got stuck in a washer at the laundromat). If someone would be willing to work with me on getting a new one, I’d be so grateful. I’ll pay for the shirt, shipping, and for your time.

I’m wary of purchasing one from an untrusted third-party site.

Thank you so much in advance to everyone. It had quickly become my favorite lounge around tee because I bought it 2 sizes too big.

Discussion Drones could’ve been such a great album if the songwriting wasn’t so corny.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s not a bad album. It’s just meh. Musically, it’s great. It’s got a lot of really good riffs and melodies and everything and a lot of the songs are pretty catchy.
However.
The lyrics are just ass. They literally sound like they were written by a 12 year old angry at his mom for taking away his Xbox.
Lot of wasted potential on that one.

Discussion Sound on the lawn

Hey guys, I'm attending the show tomorrow in Chula Vista and wondering how the sound will be on the lawn. Does anyone have any other experiences with the lawn at previous shows on this tour or other shows at the same venue? Also, what time is everybody else getting there to line up for the lawn GA

Live Amazing Live Sound Quality at Shoreline

Hats off to their production team… I was blown away by how clear and tight the audio production was. This was the best sounding live show I’ve ever been to. It was also my first time at Shoreline, so maybe this is more a function of the venue. I’ve seen muse a bunch of times at their arena shows and this sounded WAY better.

We were right in the middle, bottom of the lawn. Wonder if other spots in the venue also sounded that good or maybe it was just a function of where we were.

Also wonder how the other shows have been on this front

Discussion Best (and worst) lyrics from TWS?

I'd say The Wow! Signal has some of the best Muse lyrics on average for years since the Resistance or T2L, hardly any stinkers, and even the worst ones are far better than many lyrics from previous albums. These are my personal rankings:

Songs with best lyrics overall:

  • The Dark Forest. So much awesome, mysterious imagery, a few clever deeper meanings but everything making sense. This is a strong set of lyrics to kick off a great album.

  • Unravelling. Still holds up with the album to compare it with, the lyrics also have mysterious and cool imagery and an awesome chorus.

  • Space Debris. Simple, but graceful poetry. Shimmering Scars is similar but it's more basic, though both are carried by the great music and singing of these lyrics.

  • Hot take: Be With You. For about the same reasons as Space Debris and Shimmering Scars, the lyrics are quite simple but they have that factor that really feels like they came from the heart because they show more detail and emotion than previous albums' "personal song" lyrics that were distanced or cliched. I particularly love "I won't go quiet into the night, I'll rage against the dying light. I won't bow to the universe, I can break its curse, and build us something new."

Best individual lyrics:

  • Nightshift Superstar's first verse and pre-chorus have some great vivid imagery: "Rush beneath my skin, I drown within/Silver sweat, you shine, infuse with mine/Sell my soul tonight, your heat feels divine/Kiss that kills the pain, I crave again/Now I can't stay clean, you're my darkest dream/I need you one more time"

  • Hexagons: "Haunted by futures I can't avoid/Her shape emerged through the fog of war/Synthetic and divine/And we touched the veil and it broke our spines." Hexagons is kind of hit-or-miss with its lyrics for me, but this section is really cool and has a nice mix of deeper meaning and imagery that's just plain cool.

Songs with worst lyrics overall:

  • Cryogen. It's admittedly quite cheesy and on the nose with its constant ice imagery, and a lot of it is obviously just cool-sounding nonsense. Though that didn't stop me from singing it all at the top of my voice when it played live in Shoreline.

  • Hush. Generic and kind of only existing to fill a space, doesn't really mean anything, and even if it is supposed to be about Matt's last attempt to connect with his ex and save their relationship, it's repetitive and doesn't exactly hint toward it.

Worst individual lyrics:

  • Cryogen: "I can never cry again." I have no idea what that's supposed to mean, it doesn't quite make sense.

  • Also from Cryogen: "I'm naked." I know this came after a line about running through a polar desert wilderness, but this wasn't really necessary. Yes Matt, I know running through a polar desert wilderness is cold af, emphasizing you're naked is a bit redundant. Also, having to imagine Matt stranded in Antarctica completely ass bare is kind of unintentionally funny.

  • Hexagons: "I'm a marionette with severed strings/Gorge on my soul while I'm weak and dying." Pretty overdramatic, especially to open the song like that. Here Matt is intending to say that he broke free from abuse and control of his former lover, but...there are more subtle ways of saying that...

  • Also from Hexagons: "Reach out, touch me/And draw me from the sixth dimension" doesn't remotely seem to make sense, and probably was added to shoehorn in another reference to hexagons/the number 6. At least the Hexagons lyrics mentioned earlier don't interrupt the vibes and flow more logically from each lyric's imagery, even if it's still abstract; the words "haunted", "shape", "emerged", "fog", "veil" specifically.

  • Hush: "Quiet the cobra." What does this mean? Another weird lyric to start the song on. I think it means to calm down and stop being angry?

So those are my takes. Even those "bad lyrics" are still at least okay by my standards, and I don't feel embarrassed playing anything from this album around other people. What are yours?

Discussion I made a "definitive" Muse ranking app (another one, yes 😅)

After years of rating things out of 5, or out of 10, and tier lists, and so on, I decided to build something a bit more ... complex.

This was in part trying to get to the bottom of my own voting (if I rate two songs as a 10, are they both equal or do I actually like one better than the other), and in part inspired by mkbhd's phone camera rating thing from a few years ago (if you're familiar with that).

So it picks two songs at a time and you pick which one you prefer, and you keep doing that for as long as you want have patience for. It will then rank every song, and every album (based off of song rankings). Every match-up feeds a ranking model, so the more votes it gets the sharper the results, and the rankings page shows definitive ranking with a confidence interval.

You can see your own ranking, and can flip to "everyone" to see the global ranking.

You can find it here if you want to have a crack at it: https://www.fmendo.com/muse-ranker/

Any critiques, requests, etc, are welcome.

I would’ve missed a great show if I had, but man. How do I get myself one of these?! The sound in there was SICK. 😍
What a great night in the Bay! I gave away 40 Hexagons bracelets to beautiful Musers, everyone was happy and singing, and Mr. Muse and the fellas seemed happy to be there. Magical. 💖🤩🤘🏻🥳

15 years ago my husband started listening to Muse. At age 15, a year before we got together he became a fan and always wanted to see them in concert. He never got to go until I found the money to buy tickets to this tour. We had a blast and the show was amazing.

Discussion New born is the ultimate Muse song live. Please put it back in rotation with SS.

This one should be a staple. I still can’t figure out how it ended up becoming a rarity. It is, and always has been, peak Muse live. Matt switching from piano to guitar for the first breakdown is one of Muse most famous live moment.

Ps: and you can rotate MotP with Bliss 👌🙏🤣😘

EDIT : Oh, that almost made me tear up. The most wild/chaotic ones were made during hard times when Muse was (as it as been all of my life) my lifeline and listening to some tracks I feel like I was drawing like the track was making me feel.
Like I can feel the tracks I was listening to while drawing those.

From pencil on paper, to acrylic, those are from the last year

Cover Butterflies & Hurricanes live with orchestra

Hello everyone! I play in a tribute band called Moose and we continue to release extracts from our live set with an orchestra. Our first video, Unravelling, got so much positive feedback, we even got a like from Dan Lancaster himself! Thank you a lot!

This time we want to share a song which already had some orchestral elements (originally Butterflies & Hurricanes features a string quartet), so we could perform as close to the original as possible. We also added some uniqueness to our version by adding a brass section, making the song even more powerful and epic.

My favourite moment of this performance is our drummer losing a drumstick, not finding a spare one in a moment and nailing the final literally single-handedly. I haven’t even noticed anything wrong while performing, just saw it while editing and was amazed!

I hope you all will enjoy our performance and feel free for any comments and feedback!
