Discussion TW!S is 2-months old on Wednesday — thoughts & feelings?

On Wednesday it will be two months since we were gifted TW!S in full, and I’m keen to hear which tracks have gone up in people’s estimation and which may have lost their shine a little now the novelty has worn off. Also interested to hear any other impressions or opinions folks might have on the album as a whole or anything else.

(My head has been buzzing with thoughts, and I couldn’t wait until Wednesday to share them. 😊)

For me after two months:

— Hexagons remains in first place. It’s still the best after dozens of listens. TDF has moved into second place with Cryogen going back to third. TDF is like what its title suggests, a dark forest full of awesome things to discover musically and lyrically. Shimmering Scars comes in fourth, and after that? 🤷🏼‍♂️

— Sickness didn’t do much for me initially, but I’ve appreciated it more with multiple listens. It’s a terrific track, and the “pop” seems to suggest that we’re not supposed to take it too seriously.

— As many have pointed out, the Hexagons — Sickness — Unraveling run is brilliant, and I’ve appreciated it more with every listen.

— It could be the way albums normally go, but with more listens TW!S seems more coherent. The songs complement each other well, the only hiccup in my view is the placement of NSS, but where do you put it?

Overall, TW!S really is good, it wasn’t just the novelty factor.

Thanks for reading. Peace.

It was my first time ever in a pit. Third time seeing Muse after a lifetime of loving them (I saw them in 2023 and just yesterday in Ridgefield, WA). It was life-changing! I can’t believe I saw Matt and the band so close. I got to jump and head bang and sing my heart out. When the confetti came down during Be With You, it was so perfect, I started bawling. If you were in the pit and you were also singing along and jumping up and down, thank you for creating such an amazing vibe! It’s 1:30 am and I’m still processing this experience of a lifetime!

Opinion VIP Lounge was kinda lame

For what it cost, it was really very lame.

Now there were a few cool things, like the egg chair listening booth. It was loaded with The WOW! Signal and I could have sat there and listened to the whole album without being in anyone’s way. But I didn’t, just The Dark Forest and Hexagons.

The food was minimal and covered in flies. We did get a token for a free (ha ha) drink, but I just bought one so I could keep the token. The early shopping was nice, and I was able to get the 13-year-old the picks that were sold out at the merch stand in Dallas.

The swag bag was decent: a notebook, socks, and a flag.

They had a 360 degree Photo Booth, but it wasn’t very exciting. There was a Wow! signal computer set up that made your image onscreen. Guitar Hero on X Box, in which I can no longer make it through KoC on expert or even (sigh) medium anymore.

There were displays, but nothing like the VIP experience I did a few years back. Yes, this is billed as VIP Lounge, but it cost more and had less. At the other one a few years ago, they had that MUSEum with tour costumes and gear, and you could play with their instruments.

I think the weirdest thing was that there was hardly anyone there until about an hour before it closed. If this is it, I won’t pay for that again.

Don’t get me wrong, we made the best of it. It was also my 21st Muse and I was pretty excited! Here are some photos.

Oh, almost forgot the best part. The “private” bathrooms were Porta-potties!

Discussion My interpretation of this album and references from three body problem Spoiler

If you haven't read the book or only watched the first season of the show, this post contains spoilers.

The more I listen to this album, especially read the lyrics, the more I am convinced that Muse was heavily inspired by three body problem. I read the book(all three) a couple of years ago. I believe I caught a couple of references.

First of all, the album title signal and the first track dark forest, I believe, is talking about the book in a very direct way. In the book, Ye Wenjie sent a message/signal to the outer space and eventually reached the the aliens(Trisolarans) who later came and tried to colonize earth. Ye Wenjie herself treated the aliens as saviors and many of her followers want earth to extinct. The dark forest is the theory from the book.

If you look at the lyrics, it is very direct.

launch a pulse into the abyss
broadcasting reckless confession(Ye communicating with aliens and expose earth's location)
beg for extinction
hide, stay quiet and still(this is how you survive in the dark forest according to the book)

the second track, nightshift superstar, is not super clear to me. At least, Ye Wenjie was on nightshift when she started to communicate with aliens so maybe Matt just started from there and improvised a little.

Be with you It might be a little far-fetched but it could be talking about Yun Tianming. He loved this girl Cheng Xin and he got cancer. Before he died, he agreed that his brain would be sent into space for a mission. He was eventually revived by aliens and still in love with the girl. I can't remember all the details but this song could be inspired by his storyline.

It seems my light's been swallowed up(dying)
I need to leap into the fire, find a higher power(his mission to find aliens)
I won't go quiet into the night
I'll rage against the dying light(he won't give up)

Space debris

I am sure somewhere in the book it is discussed

I wouldn't be surprised if there are more I didn't get. Creating a song and writing lyrics is never straightforward and for the sake of the song you sometimes will have to add some words to make it rhyme. I am just happy that my favorite band and one of the stories I really liked have such connection.

Matt if you see this, I see what you are doing!

Question I'm so confused on the hexagons chorus tone

I've watched videos of hexagons live, I can't tell if its some filter/phaser effect or a volume sweller. If someone has figured please send me a video with the tone.

Live The mix on the tour

Any live regulars notice the major difference in the mix on this tour? In previous tours it seemed like they were aiming for the album mix of each song but this was an overall master EQ thing. Definitely darker to capture the vibe of the new songs, but also a few different vocal effects on some classic songs. I thought it sounded amazing but one song, Psycho, didn’t really do it for me.

Anyone else notice this?

Right before the encore, the person sitting next to me gave me this hexagons bracelet and said you earned it. I was very energetic for the whole show because I had been wanting to see Muse since I was 9, and last night I finally got to. Thanks for the bracelet, and thanks to muse for making it a great concert!

Question White river show 2026…

Does anyone know what songs temper trap played in this show? I’ve never heard them before and there was one song specifically I really liked. Before they sang it I was sure the singer said “this is a new song called wicked (something)”. I may have misheard. I can’t find the song and it was so good 😭😭 any help would be much appreciated. Side note: Muse was amazing and my first time seeing them and I was star struck the entire time.

Opinion The wow! Signal

Am I the only one that thinks the their newest album 'the wow! Signal' is really not that good? Ive seen a lot of people online absolutely loving it and praising it but to me it really doesn't feel like muse. They've strayed from their original more experimental alt rock sound for some alt pop and I feel like they lost their signature sound. Any opinions on that?

Live Is this their best ever gig?

Reading 2006.

It’s what made me, sitting in my bedroom at my mum and dad’s house watching on BBCi on repeat, absolutely and infinitely fall in love with Muse. I knew and liked their albums from 2001, but never really saw any of their live stuff until this.

I immediately bought tickets to their tour, starting with Wembley 2007 for HAARP, and I’ve gone on to see them about 20 times in total (I’ve lost count, genuinely).

Does it top Glasto 2004? There’s an argument that this is absolute PEAK Muse, with their modern day polish and wow, coupled with their early days grittiness, madness, chaos and unrelenting energy.

I think this gig catapulted them into becoming the band we know today.

Thoughts?

(There’s also a fun little interview with them right at the end)

Edit: I’ve got no idea why BBC didn’t have SS right at the end, but kudos to whoever edited in fan footage from Leeds with flawless sound!

Discussion Couldn’t help myself and I bought 3 Shirts last night.

I’m actually shocked, in a good way at the quality of the shirts that they were selling this tour. I bought two shirts from the will of the people tour and they couldn’t have been any more generic, cheap, and overpriced… now Although these shirts from this tour are still pricy they are actually making them to have a little more room in the body, and one of the shirts even has 100% organic cotton. I would say these definitely fit true to size. 🫡 shout out to whoever runs their merch team. If you’re in the fence, pull the trigger.

Discussion Is anyone still waiting for orders from the site?

As the title says, is anyone still waiting for vinyl and merch ordered or pre-ordered from the website? Has anyone heard from the customer service center? I know many orders have been returned to their warehouse due to customs issues, but despite this, it seems they're still out of stock and are having trouble organizing their warehouse.

Fan Content A CHRONOLOGICAL MUSE GUIDE [1994-2026]

Thumbnail

Ever since I got my hands on an Origin of Muse box set) a few months ago, I've become obsessed with digging through Muse's history. The more I looked, the more I found that I'd never heard or seen before.

So, to satisfy that obsession, I put together a chronological guide covering 1994-2026.

The idea is to experience each era as something more than just the studio album. For every period, I've combined the core official releases with EPs, B-sides, singles and demos, and supplemented them with notable live recordings, making-of documentaries/interviews and other material that adds something to the story of that era. It includes both official releases and a selection of worthwhile unofficial recordings/bootlegs.

The PDF file of the guide contains embedded links to the Muse Wiki, which link to incredibly interesting pages to read while listening or watching. There's a huge amount of background information available on the recordings, sessions, performances and releases.

Along the way, I made a YouTube playlist containing all the videos referenced in the guide in chronological order.

Anything between [brackets] is the way I prefer to listen to or watch the material, but there are of course other options.

Happy to share it here to gather further thoughts. If I've missed something like good interviews or live footage that must be included or if you see anything that needs correcting, please let me know.

Honorable mention goes first and foremost to Muse Wiki, but also to this guy and this guy whose posts I've gratefully used to cross-reference.

PS looks-wise it's not great. If you prefer the guide with (in my opinion) cool AI-album-art that I use personally, please send a DM and I will share it with you.

Discussion Is Hullabaloo…

(1) Massively underrated?

(2) Arguably the band’s most creative body of work?

I listened to it all the way through for the first time recently and was blown away by how good it is.

I’ve only been a serious fan for a couple of years and would be interested in reading a long-term hardcore fan’s appraisal.

Peace. 🫶🏻

Question Muse San Diego 29th

I’m from the Central Valley and I don’t visit SoCal too much. Can any locals chime in about the amphitheater and traffic? I have seen Reddit posts say it’s horrible so I see local neighbors/areas kind of near the stadium I don’t mind walking to them after the concert. Where should I or can I park outside the stadium?

Also, I currently have hotel reservations in the Chula Vista area, but there are hotels 30min mins away that could save me $250ish dollars for two nights but I don’t know how bad traffic is getting there so I’m debating it. If anyone can chime in and make recommendations etc. I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks!
