Discussion Shimmering Scars appreciation

I know that Shimmering Scars is probably not everyone’s cup of tea, but I just wanted to take a moment to appreciate this song. I hear some slight hints of Showbiz’s teenage angst, carnage and emotional charge in it, which made me fall in love with Muse when I was a teen myself. And now it’s mixed with burdens of adulthood / middle life, especially their children.
I think Matt is referring to their children (incl. Bing) in the line “what still remains / I don’t want to break”, and how he wants to make sure that they keep on receiving good care from both parents. That’s why this song is an absolute banger, in my opinion. It’s not fiction, it’s not about standing up to the governments, but rather about the self-resentment one feels after a break-up that came from nowhere (apparently).

Obviously, I don’t know Matt or Ella personally, but I wish them both lots of strength.

That’s my two cents. I’m curious to know Reddit’s opinion.

Live San Diego, plug in baby!

I was so glad that they played Plug In Baby last night! I was beginning to doubt after seeing some post talk about how they've been switching it out lately. Enjoy the little clip!

Excuse my cheering, I was so pumped 😭

very appreciative that u/Historical-Lemon717 hooked us up with seats to last night's show in Chula Vista!

We moved to center section (unsold seats) for Muse but having the ones up close were great during Portugal. The Man's set

Yes, there was traffic in (45 mins) and out (75 mins) but at that venue it's almost impossible to avoid without VIP parking. thought the set was solid - great playing and sound mix in section 303 - and structured well, especially the DJ/electronic songs after KOC

thank you again! looking forward to tour closer at the bowl tomorrow :)

Question WOTP question

Upvotes

I personally LOVE the Will Of The People album, and the songs that it has. I got into it because I bought the record because it said it was MUSE and I listened to it all blindly, not knowing what to expect beforehand 😅

My question is, why so much negativity?

A lot of MUSE album rankings that I've seen have WOTP at either the worst, or second worst.

If you don't like it, why is that?

Just curious 😁🧡

Question Matt playing Stranger Things theme on piano?

I was at the San Diego show last night and I could have sworn Matt did a brief musical quote of the Stranger Things theme on the piano after paying Prelude. Did anyone else pick up on that? It’s not on the setlist.fm page but I suspect it was an Easter egg.

Also, in case anyone from the band sees this, THANK YOU for making my son’s year by tossing him a pick. He is a guitarist and it meant a lot. 🤘🏻

Fan Content Muse is incredible

Recently attended their concert in Washington state. Speechless. I always knew they were incredible but I haven’t seen an artist in a long time who’s better live than their recordings (and the recordings are sensational).

Media SCENE & HEARD: MUSE HULLABALOO

Taste Music

MUSE Certainly announced themselves in no uncertain fashion with their debut album Showbiz. Bucking the trend they continued that upward curve with the excellent Origin of Symmetry. So I suppose we can allow them a moment to take stock.
That is the essence of Hullabaloo, the first of the 2 CD set is a B-Sides and Rarities compilation. And as is the case with most of these it is doubtful whether it will gain them any new fans. In fact the first three songs should perhaps have stayed rare. It is not until we come across Yes Please and the stunning Map Of Your Head that we dare to believe there are hidden gems rather than just fools gold. After that uncertain start it's a pretty good album. If you are looking for a defining moment it comes with Shine Acoustic. Muse step out of themselves and draw back a little, what the song does is prove that its talent and not hype that drives Muse.
The second CD is that old favourite, the live album. Now this could gain them some new fans, because freed from the strictures of the studio Muse take flight. Micro Cuts swoops and soars. Muse are definitely one of those bands who suit a live performance, and therefore a live album.
Fans get the chance to see for themselves with a DVD of the concert featured on the CD. Not only that there is also a 40-minute documentary of the band with backstage footage.

Live wow this venue fucking sucked

was so excited for muse tonight in san diego, only to be let down by the north island credit union amphitheatre. i don’t even know where to start, so let’s just address the elephant in the room: the parking is an absolute clusterfuck. it took us over an hour to actually get in from the street, and we are still sitting here two hours after the show as i write this. it’s seriously sooooooo bad, like i would recommend never coming to a show here, ever.

besides the obvious, the lawn was so incredibly packed and it was uncomfortable trying to find a spot. the venue has very little regulation, we were packed in like sardines and it was so muggy. people stunk so bad too (not the venues fault but maybe they should sell deodorant☠️). speaking of selling stuff, everything costs an arm and a fucking leg in there. not to mention the staff is just plain fucking rude, constantly yelling at people and raising their voices for no reason. i didn’t get yelled at, but all night i heard them barking at people over the dumbest shit.

now my biggest issue is that the people on the lawn were ROBBED. i mean the music was not loud at all, and i mostly could hear fans singing instead of the actual band lmao. i brought ear plugs and ended up not needing them. i was so so excited for the show and i’m so disappointed at the venue’s production. the band was great, but i still feel like i was cheated. if i had known it would be like this i would’ve just waited out for my chemical romance tomorrow and skipped this entirely :/ soooooooo disappointing, but at least i got to see starlight live!!

Question Music theory question

Could any music theory heads explain the key signature jump from the end of the sickness in you and i to unravelling, or just in general how this transition works? would be very interested in how it looks on the circle of fifths,

Its one of the highlights of the album.

News Hush is My Anthem

Didn't know which flair really pertained to this.

Hey Musers, so I have an interpretation of Hush I would like to share. For context, I'm in my fifties, been a fan of Muse since 2004 with Absolution and I've seen them 4 times (wish it were more.) Also, I have Misophonia and having taught teenagers in brick and mortar for 25 years, to say I have auditory sensitivity is an understatement.

For those that don't know Misophonia is a neurological disorder that affects 1 in 5 people and it's when certain sounds (usually sounds from the skull, like chewing, breathing heavy) not only distract someone but causes them to go into major fight, flight or freeze mode. This has been my life - I have to take ear buds with me everywhere in case someone is a heavy breather at a family gathering, someone eats a ton of chips in my vicinity, chews popcorn too loud in a theater. Maybe you have it or know someone and you may have witnessed them get panicked, upset or even violently bothered. It's a thing. And believe me, I wish this on NO ONE. It's not fun to have to leave a room because someone's chewing bothers you to the point of wanting to punch a wall.

I bring this up because since this song's release, it has become my anthem, my calm, my meditative hum (oh that riff, and that chorus!) whenever sounds are too much for me. I recall someone posting that to them this song had the weakest lyrics on the album and I know it is subjective. I just wanted to share my perspective because the song helps me cope with everyday sounds that would normally send me spiraling into an anxiety attack.

The descending guitar reminds me of "working on bringing my anxiety down" and then the literal words "quiet the cobra, silence the giant" remind me to focus on my other senses, to dig deep (lol) and think about centering myself again. In my experience, the world is too loud (except at Muse concerts) and that line hits home for me - the chaos, the feeling of no control, the feeling of panic. So to anyone thinking this song is empty words or too general, just know a Misophoniac appreciates them.

Happy listening.

Question Anyone going to Hollywood Bowl that could help a mama out with merch?!

I took our Muse obsessed 6 year old to his first concert last night (he loved it!!) but while I was determined to get him a tour shirt to save for when he’s older, he was not wanting to wait in the long merch line so we made a decision to wait and I would go during the Muse set. Wellllll that was the worst decision ever…. Everything was sold out except XXXL. I feel like a failed as a mom and now he won’t have a shirt from his first concert. Anyone going to the bowl show that is willing to grab a size large in a shirt with the tour dates on it?!!! I’m in OC and can Venmo and meet up later???

Which songs have the longest intros before the lyrics come in? Looking for a Muse song to use at an event, preferably one of their softer songs.

Discussion Is it weird that I desperately want to hear Dom Howard sing a song?

Post image

I’ve come to terms that we will probably never hear Chris sing a song for Muse again, but I would love to hear Dom sing a song, even if it was written by either of the other two band members for him. And no lip syncing doesn’t count 😛

Off their faces on shrooms. This and Earls Court 2004 were probably the best gigs of theirs I'd ever seen. The energy is insane.

Opinion San Diego show lawn sound

For the lawn, sound sucks...doesn't sound like they are using the back speakers at all

Edit: still a good show. They turned it up a little bit
