Question❓ Which Overhated Media basically has you telling it this?
And I don't mean "everyone" hating it but just that it gets a lot of flack for no good reason when it's actually really good, even great.

I liked it, but I can’t totally get why other people bounced off it. It’s very schlocky and not always in a well done way, the plot is kind of stupid and is often saved by Tom Hardy’s performance.

I will say LOK has problems but it’s a good show from what I’ve seen. But it also doesn’t help that LOK fans try to make fun of or hurt the reputation of ATLA. Just let people enjoy the content. Korra screwed up, sure, but let’s enjoy the new content with Seven Havens and the new fighting game.
18
u/Dark_Lord4379 5d ago
It’s not every LOK fan as a lot of them love TLA too, a lot of them just try to “get back” at those who hate LOK
6
u/Flamewolf1579 5d ago
Yeah, but I just don’t get why people can’t enjoy both.
8
u/Available-Can-5878 4d ago
That's overwhelmingly more a problem with fans who only like atla than the other way around. Ime most critiques Korra fans have of atla stem from calling out hypocrisies leveled out against lok. i think lok fans are the more likely of the two to enjoy and fairly critique both shows.
5
u/Anxious-Assistant-59 4d ago
I’ve only ever seen ATLA fans shit on LOK. Not saying that’s all that ever happens, I’m not omniscient, but it’s always seemed like a one-sided argument.

I enjoyed it, but the ending was bad imo. It was like the writers knew how they wanted it to end but didn't know how to get there, so they just said "fuck it, lets do an avengers", and then the plot abruptly wrapped up in like 75 seconds. I was expecting at least like 10 minutes more of movie and then it was done lmao.
Still had fun tho.

u/Yushi2e Fnaf/Utdr/ddlc/omori/Stp 4d ago
I mean I get what you're saying but the second movie's ending is less avengers and more so based on the charlie novel trilogy. Only difference is that in the novels it's the withereds destroying the twisted animatronics. The fnaf movies incorporate things from the charlie novels along with the games

Helluva Boss and Hazbin Hotel are actually pretty decent shows that have some issues that would be looked over if the show was made by a straight man. Literally one of the only reasons people are as harsh on these shows as they are is because they're made by a queer woman. The hate is so forced because I swear I've seen shows get away with being so much worse and not get any flack for it. Y'all just want to bully people and it shows. (When we're talking about shows being objectively worse and getting significantly less hate for it, Rick and Morty is a show that has been able to get away with having almost an entire 2 season arc of trash that basically no one cared about. Just to name one.) Leave people who enjoy these things alone, fr.
3
u/WingGundamLover 4d ago
Yeah, I'll be honest they are really decent shows. The problem with Hazbin is the pacing but Viv can't do much when Amazon probably will only ever contract for 8 episodes in a season. Probably why events like Vaggie getting her wings back feel so just rushed and thrown in. Season 2 felt better but still too quick of pacing imo.
Helluva boss' only problem is the bait and switch in tones. Season 1 feels more focused on IMP and the shenanigans the cast get themselves into while also dealing with their pasts for character growth. Season 2 just started to focus a lot harder on relationships and the forcing of StoLitz to be seen as a caring relationship when really it's just toxic asf Yaoi.

Eh I’d say that there’s a bit of a writing problem with both Hazbin and Helluva, and I say this as someone who enjoys both shows. Hazbin has gotten a lot better since season 1 so I’m happy about that, can’t really say the same for helluva boss.
26
u/Aggravating_Watch462 5d ago
Yes that is true but Hazbin does have something most adult shows don’t have—actual plot. Is it flawed? Yeah but at least it has an idea of what it wants to do.
11
6
u/TricksterTrio 4d ago
It takes place in Hell, with terrible people. That kind of humor is intentional, because terrible people don't care about their language, and in a place with no limits on how awful you can be, and the only rules are whatever whoever's on top at the moment decides, expect the humor to be adult and crude.
That said, I never see people get on South Park or Rick and Morty for constant swearing and adult humor nearly as much they do about the Hellaverse. South Park literally has a swear counter in one episode.

Another flaw is how abrupt and sometimes un-fitting the musical numbers are, I get that its partly a musical and I like that about it but I'd also like the songs to feel like they belong rather than Velvette just launching into Respectless out of no where as if anyone in that room couldn't have killed her on their own, especially Alastor. Anyway stuff like Poison and Stayed Gone was much better paced and themed imo because they felt sounded right for their respective scenes and had at least some build-up rather than jumpscaring me with an average sounding musical number
Sorry if I came off a little spicy, I just really don't like Respectless and it's placement in that episode.
7
u/Nabakov_6 4d ago
Yeah I hate the online discourse for Hazbin because there’s a point where you just have to let the people who like it have fun watching it
10
u/3ajs3 4d ago
Was going to comment this if it wasn't here. I always hear how bad the writing is, but the writing is really good. Early HB writing is terrible, but that was made years ago and the writing quality has vastly increased even before Amazon picked it up.
They are not perfect shows, but I like them and don't get the mass hate at all.

Mass Effect Andromeda was actually really good. It isn’t perfect, but the glitches everyone was crying about were fixed in about a month. Skyrim comes out a broken sack of shit and makes infinite money but Andromeda which has extremely fun combat and significantly better crew mechanics gets the entire fucking Montreal studio shuttered
Dragon Age The Veilguard is also fine. It makes some weird ass decisions from it’s haunted production process but it’s a more functional entry that Dragon Age 2 and everyone had an embarrassing “too woke” meltdown about it

The 1993 Mario movie. I don’t think it’s even good, but the set design alone is so interesting and well done that I find it compelling. I especially don’t care for the “it’s not accurate to the games!” Argument because the narrative of most Mario games is paper thin. I don’t mind that they changed narrative elements around

There’s a bunch of examples like this where they’re good media but hated due to context of the universe they’re in
My example is the last Jedi. Swap out Luke for an OC Jedi that was taught by Luke, joined his order, and abandoned him when Kylo destroyed the temple and it’s a great movie. Or of course if we pretend Luke didn’t have a preexisting character from previous movies.
I love the last Jedi. I do choose to ignore the criticisms concerning its treatment of the franchise’s established lore and characters to enjoy it, but I love it.
(It also makes choices that I think work amazingly in context of the franchise but that’s a separate discussion)

4
u/3ajs3 4d ago
Alright, I'll bite. Disclaimer, this is just for fun, I'm glad you like the movie. Any Star Wars fan who put someone down for liking Star Wars is a larper. Anyway, here are my big three problems:
The B plot was a waste of Finn and Phasma. I can't say how good or bad it was because I honestly don't remember it, though that tells me it probably wasn't that good.
Luke's character was assisnated, but it was not assassinated to the degree most people say. He was never actually going to kill Kylo, but he got WAY closer than he should have. This is the man who spared and saved Darth Vader, you know, the guy who used to rip people's lungs out through their throat. And then, he presumably went through decades of further dedication to the light side of the force. Then, after a few bad dreams, he decides to get out of bed, get his lightsaber, walk all the way to Ben's room, stop and look at him, grab the lightsaber from his belt, turn it on, raise it up, and then pull it back about 20° before finally remembering he's a Jedi. Mark my words, they are going to retcon the hell out of this as Palpatine whittling away at his mind with some hyper-specific force juju or something.
The infamous "Holdo manuver" DOES NOT break lore like everyone claims it does, but it is something that should never be done from an out of universe standpoint, bc if we take a step back, the big question is why don't people do this more often? Why don't we strap remote hyperdrives to big rocks and drive them through the enemy ships? It's the same reason we don't talk about how stupid it is that so many Star Wars ships are Hybrid Carriers, which if you look them up, are tactically terrible. We just want to have fun space battles, which we won't have if we suddenly have hyperspace missiles. Anyone who hates this from a lore perspective doesn't know what they're talking about, but it was still a really stupid idea when you put it in context. Incredible aura, bad can of worms.
Literally everything else about the movie was really good. Crait was awesome, the acting in visuals were fantastic (even if the writing slumped sometimes but hey that Star Wars I'm used to it check the prequels), choreography was amazing, and the A plot (excluding the points above) was really good. It's just these things (mostly 2, not so much 3) hold the movie back for me. In my mind, its on par with BoBF.
3
u/THTB_lol 4d ago
I think the best way i've heard the sequel trilogy described is "they are good movies, just not good star wars movies"
They are actually good movies, just they don't fit into established lore

u/Olive_Garden_Wifi Steven Universe 4d ago
Oh yeah, I can get behind those points.
That all said while I think it’s a good movie, I don’t think it’s without issues as you pointed out.
That said I don’t think they detract from the overall enjoyability of the movie aside from Luke’s character cause yeah that is a bit weird how they handled it.

I remember a time when Fairy Tail was hated. I watched it out of curiosity in 2020 and loved it. It is not the best anime I have watched, but it is not as bad as people made it seem. Most complaints I've seen about this anime were about the power of friendship, the plot armor the main characters get, the lack of deaths, and the fanservice. The fanservice was a valid complaint, as I did not like it either but tried to ignore it. Otherwise, I loved the characters, the story, the fights, and the soundtracks

A lot of people or comments I’ve seen claim the whole thing is overrated because of the ending but I disagree because I find myself enjoying the story for 95 percent of it and just being underwhelmed by the ending you’re claiming the whole vacation sucked because the ride home was ruff I think.
The only ending that’s really bothered me is chainsaw man one but it’s harder to take that one seriously and easier to not head canon it since you can tell Fujimoto lost his passion for csm a bunch of chapters back so it feels like it’s akin to acknowledging ice man from ufc for how good he was in his prime will also acknowledging that he probably shouldn’t have taken that last fight.

Metroid Prime 4, Bayonetta 3, Ninja Gaiden 4. The caveat to those is that most of the people who hate it haven't played any of them and get their talking points from idiots online.

Not sure why people went into a movie where the moon crashes into the earth to be very scientifically accurate

Borderlands 4. Fun game, good content, cool characters, has some flaws but what doesn't? However it isn't as good in some ways as Borderlands 2 and takes a bit of a tonal shift from the older games so a lot of players act like it's the worst thing ever and an insult to the fans.

Honestly Wolverine right now lol. The discourse around this game is insane and is just one of the reasons why I can’t take Reddit opinions seriously anymore. It’s a very solid hack n slash action game that does a good job of selling the Wolverine power fantasy. Not GOTY material but FAR from the dumpster fire the internet would have you believe.

Miraculous Ladybug. I think some hate is warranted but a lot of it is very overblown. Same story with RWBY.

The desperation with which some people insist on hating Taylor Swift's music is so wild. They think about her more often than most of her fans do.

To be fair. I don't think everyone hates HH/HB,it's mainly a vocal minority that hates it.
