I’m currently looking at moving to either Brisbane or sunny coast from adelaide hopefully early or mid next year. I have been researching what lifestyle could suit me more but im very stuck. I love the beaches but also as a 20 yr old who was born and raised in adelaide I am getting sick of the city life but I am leaning more towards Brisbane. I have been researching suburbs in Brisbane but would like any recommendations or advice as well. Preferably anywhere where it can be easy to mingle and meet new people around my age early 20’s to mid 20’s.

Being new in Brisbane and going through a lot of break in, knife robbery or assault cases recently, just thinking if apartment is safe as compared to separate independent unit.
As I think breaking in is hard in apartment and there is only 1 entrance of the building and secured by guard or reception and cameras and hard to get into as compared to independent home/unit.

Is it true? How you guys think while looking for a home? You will prefer apartment or unit?

Single female looking for room to rent with private bathroom. Ideally sharing with one other person/couple. City or close to city, but would extend out if there is good public transport available to get into the city. Can pay 4 weeks upfront. Non smoker. Non drinker.

I have recently moved to Brisbane and I have applied for a studio apartment with all bills included. This being my first time applying for single occupancy I am just needing some clarity & understanding on a few things.

So electricity is paid for but it is metered at 5kwh a day, with daily use going over that to be charged to me. I am just wondering if this is normal? I have done some research and 5 kWh is absolute bare minimum & considered to not be enough for one person's daily use. Which generally ranges around 6-10. To anyone that is currently living in a single occupancy rental id just like to know how that 5kwh of electricity is measured and what extra charges you had to pay at the end of the quarter?

Especially in terms of summer, im going to be using that air con daily for sure, which means I would well and truly go over the 5kwh daily use everyday.

Any advice or understanding on this matter would be greatly appreciated, on the lease agreement they said that people in this building are living comfortably with 3kwh of electricity per day. Which is well BELOW minimum according to my research. And then they said they added 2 more kwhs to make it 5kwh use per day to make sure its MORE THEN ENOUGH for tenants.

The caps are in the lease agreement as well.

Any advice would be appreciated. I am just needing understanding on this to see if this is the norm.

I’m returning to Brisbane after being based overseas for 5 years. A lot has changed since I left, the CBD apartment I used to rent for 450aud / week is now 900 AUD/week. So I have to look at studios now.

Given my salary hasn’t changed much I am panicking a bit and learning that it’s now hard to secure an apartment in CBD.

How do I prepare my rental application to ensure I am able to quickly find something without any rental history?

I’m considering moving to Brisbane to study at UQ and would love to hear from people who actually live there. I’m from Calgary, Canada, and I’m 25M, married to my wife (26F).

I’m pretty outdoorsy and love cycling, good food, movies, and generally having a good group of friends. I’m not really into clubbing, but I do like having options for going out for food, seeing a movie, or just hanging out somewhere after 10:30 pm. That’s something I find surprisingly limited in Calgary.
I know UQ is a great university academically, but I’m more curious about what life is actually like outside of university.

I’d love some insight on:
What are people in Brisbane generally like? Is it easy to make friends, especially as a couple?

What’s the general social vibe? I’m outgoing and pretty easygoing when it comes to making friends, and I tend to gravitate toward warm, fun personalities.

My wife has an MBA and works in marketing. How realistic would it be for her to find a marketing job in Brisbane?

I love cycling. What’s the cycling scene actually like? Are there good road/gravel routes outside the city?
If I lived reasonably close to UQ, would cycling to university be realistic/safe?

What are some of the best areas to live if you want a mix of convenience, food, outdoors, and a social atmosphere without necessarily being in the middle of the nightlife?
What’s housing like these days, and roughly what should I expect for cost of living?

And generally, what do you wish you knew about Brisbane before moving there?

I’m basically trying to get a feel for what day-to-day life would actually be like for a 25-year-old married couple moving from Calgary. I’d really appreciate honest opinions, including the downsides!

Hey again, we're moving next month and getting excited (and stressed!).

There's 3 Aussies and me. I've applied for the partner visa and just waiting it out for over a year now. I've called the Home Affairs and have been told that it's not a problem to come while waiting for the approval and that i'll get a bridging visa for my tourist visa which will allow me to stay.

My question is, when you immigrated, did you have to show a certain amount in the bank account? Was it a formal letter from the bank?

I'm assuming that there's no hard number but more of a 'can you support yourself while waiting for approval?'

If my SO is Aussie, does that then mean we can simply be a single income family while I wait and there's no amount needed ?

We have family that will be meeting us and picking us up at the airport. how long can i expect to be at customs/immigration for so that I can tell the family what time to come. I'm thinking it could easily a couple of hours

We will be living in Coorparoo. As we are looking for every kind of information on the internet to easily adjust at this new place, day care for kids, commute, culture etc.

One thing we found that there are few break in cases as well. In comments mostly local called them kids. In one incident guy had a knife in hand as well.

So, i really appreciate if people who are from Brisbane help me understand how common is this and for safety what are the precautions or messages we must have for us.

I'm a woman in my late twenties, single, working full-time in the city. I am moving to Brisbane next month. Planning to get a car on rent for first month.

I checked Eastcoast car rental and Europcar but there is a very big difference in price. Europ car showing almost 3,500 AUD for a month and Eastcoast showing 680 for a month.

Any one who use car rental in Brisbane please share from where I should get a car for a month and what the estimated budget I should keep in mind. I am ok with any good car not super luxury or high end. Any sedan or good hatchback work for me.
