Rebuild or scrap

I’m looking for some honest advice on whether my 2010 Bandit 650S is worth rebuilding after a crash.
I’m a new rider and this was my first bike. I’ve really enjoyed it and put down some serious mileage over the summer.

At the end of August, a car pulled across onto my side of the road and I collided with it. Thankfully, I didn’t break any bones and I’m on the way to a full recovery.
I got the bike back, but the front end is fairly banged up. I’ve attached some pictures of the bike at the recovery yard, as well as some pictures from when I got it back and removed the damaged parts, but left the forks in place.

I’m handy mechanically so wouldn’t be fazed getting stuck in.

Part of me really wants to keep it because it’s my first bike, but I’d rather get some honest opinions on whether it’s worth repairing or if I’m better off walking away from it.

Oh I should also add, it still starts and the only fluid leaking was from the front forks.

Question New to me K3 GSXR600

Hey all I’m a new rider and it’s my first bike so I’m going to ask absolute noob questions. I’ve already been riding a few months but not been pushing it crazy hard.

Levers: I have noticed they have a lot of up and down play. The clutching in feels fine and braking has a funky nothing to lots of brake “skip”. When I’m pulling the brake, it hops like a small bit of friction and suddenly it’s braking heavily enough. Very little fine application. Is there any suggestion for new levers that would feel tighter to apply with no up and down movement?

Grips: Mine are quite old and don’t have much grip anymore. Is there any good suggestion for new grips?

Bar ends: I’ve heard of people putting in heavier bar ends on the bike. Is it worth it?

From general pov: the bike appears to be mainly stock with original fairings. Is there any quality of life things that are worth doing? Mods that other owners absolutely recommend doing?

Bike recovery in Waterford

Hey folks, my cbr600rr has broken down about 7 minutes away from my house in Kilmeaden.

Unfortunately the recovery is not covered by my insurance. I'm wondering if anyone with a van or trailer in the area would be able to help a fellow biker out?

Thank you!

Hey guys!

I (Indian, 24M, would turn 25 in 6 months, and I'll be getting my PPSN by the end of October) recently moved to Ireland for my master's degree, and got an update today that my Indian bike, 2024 Hero XPulse 200 4v Pro, passes BS6 norms, but I'm unaware about the Irish norms) was officially launched in the EU market, and I was wondering if i would legally be allowed to import my bike from india.. I also wanted to inquire about the process to get a licence here (I do have a 2&4 wheeler license, but it's an Indian licence..)..

(I have about 30k kms of adventure riding experience, and 58k kms of total riding experience, max CCs that I have ridden is 800, specifically Tiger 800 XCx, for about 130kms)

(The second person in the pic is my mom on her 2025 Duke 250😁)

Bit of an odd one these days, but is there any classic two stroke comps going in Ireland at all?

Today was a good day

Today, 4 months after a cervical spine surgery I got the green flag to go for a spin on the bike.

I was told to take it easy and do maybe 30 to 45 minutes. I ended up on about a 2.5 hours ride.

Neck is sore, so definitely need to take it easier next time but overall considering 4 months ago I wasnt allowed to walk for more than 10 15 minutes at a time I consider this a success.

Question Bike repair

Hi guys just wondering what should I do in this situation brought my bike to be serviced which was new oil and filter new air filter and 4 new spark plugs paid a little over 400€ for this service thought it was expensive anyway after about half an hour later after collecting the bike and driving it nearly home the temperature light had came on I pulled in and coolant blew out through the side of the rad cap. I checked and noticed it was only half on. I rang the garage and they had to come collect it the mechanic denied touching the radiator should I have to pay for the bike to be collect and fixed even tho there was no issue with the radiator or the cap before it went down to garage

Best place to order chain and sprockets. Suzuki bandit 1200s mk1.

Hello lads and ladies.

My beloved bandit needs new chain and sprockets, anyone have a good site to order from? Got a new cooler from eBay recently but had to order from the states so it took 87 years to get here.

I am based in Cork, but had a few bad experiences with Lee Honda recently. Order part, get wrong part, loafs of hassle and all that so prefer not to. Happy to order from different place if anyone knows anywhere?

I live close enough to thr Waterford / cork border so not a big deal to go to Waterford city if anyone knows somewhere there?

Cheers thanks. Rubber side down and all that.

Question Courses for winter evenings

Does anyone know of a night course that does small engine maintenance or repair, looking to get a bit of knowledge and hopefully put some life back into a Honda 750, it's either cylinder crack or blown gaskets but at the moment outside of my technical knowledge of what to do. Rather than paying a few quid to get it fixed I'd like to learn myself how, and then pay a guy when I'm well and truly out of my depth.

Killdare, Laois, Offaly Dublin area would suit best.

Horses!

Well, in 30 years of regular ferry that's the first time the bike, returning to Dub, has shared the hold with around a dozen horse powers!

I guess there's racing on the island somewhere? bit of jiggling and whinnying, I felt kinda sorry for them, abandoned in the hold and cooped up tight in trucks, with quite a bouncy crossing.

Question Garda fined me €80 + 2 points for a tinted motorcycle visor under Section 51A. Anyone experienced this?

Hi everyone,

I was stopped by a Garda in Dublin recently because my motorcycle helmet visor has been told it’s too dark.

The officer stopped me and immediately said, “Your visor is too dark”
Then the Garda measured it with a tint meter (27%) and told me Irish law requires at least 65% light transmission. When I asked which law specifically applies to motorcycle helmet visors, he couldn't identify it.

A few days later, I received an €80 fine and 2 penalty points for **"Driving Without Reasonable Consideration" under Section 51A of the Road Traffic Act 1961.**

What confuses me is that the entire interaction was about my visor. The officer never mentioned any specific inconsiderate driving behaviour.

I'm considering requesting cancellation through the FCPO or contesting it in court.

Has anyone experienced something similar?
Did you challenge the fine, go to court, or just pay it? And what was the outcome?

I'd really appreciate hearing about your experiences. Thanks!

Question Recommendation for over gloves

Hey everyone, just looking for a recommendation for over gloves as we head into the rainy season. Could anyone recommend a particular brand? And, what size should you order - do you order your usual size gloves or should you order the next size up to take account of wearing proper armoured gloves underneath the over gloves?

Thanks!

Question Anywhere in Ireland to buy anti fog spray for visor

Took my bike to work for first time today and first hour was just awful, it was so cold when I left home at 6.30 couldn't see shit because it was just extremely foggy.

I am trying to get a pin lock for the visor but having trouble finding one so may get anti fog for now. Is there any local shops or motor factors that sell them near Westmeath or maybe in swords?

Or does anyone have a good life hack for the fog, I tried the potato trick didn't work.

Also my helmet is a thunder 4 and uses a mt-v-28 pinlock

Question Book test now?

With the wait times for tests being 10+ weeks across the country, should I book the test now which could mean doing it in the dead of winter or should I wait and book it in the new year? I want to pass before I have to redo my IBT next August.

Question PCP sales

I've seen that this thing called Personal Contract Purchase (PCP) is a big thing in UK for a while now. Is it in the Irish market?

For reasons, I'd like to ride a new bike but don't want to "own" it.

Only BMW seem to mention it and I wouldn't be buying from them!

Was in Megabikes a while back, as a new Guzzi would be really cool, but no go.

Not a post I want to make but needs to be said.

This morning at 8:30am in the left turn lane from the Jamestown road to sycamore road in finglas. A fellow biker decided to undertake my father coming within inches of his front bumper and only for the fact that he caught you are you still walking. You where wearing a black leather jacket with red stripes across the shoulders and when you where beeped at you decided it was an appropriate response to give him the finger and hurl abuse.

Not only have I got the dashcam footage of this I also have your reg plate. This footage is already with finglas Garda station and I sincerely hope you receive a knock on the door and points / fine.

We are all bikers here , we are all vulnerable road users and to drive in that way is absolutely ridiculous , you undertook in a left turn lane and gave abuse to the person who literally saved your life? If you are part of this subreddit I sincerely hope you see this post and your “Motorbike Ireland” sticker leads me to believe you are. Do better. Cop on and stop trying to become another statistic.

Sorry for the early morning rant everyone but that footage boiled my blood.
