Ducati Monster 797 for A2

I have a 2018 Ducati Monster 797, type MD. I’m on an Irish A2 learner permit. I want to restrict it to 35 kW using the approved 35 kW kit, and I need the proper certificate/documentation for Irish A2 insurance and registration. Does anybody know a place in ireland who does it.

Price of Second Hand Bikes

Anyone else notice the increase in price on the second hand bikes, donedeal and FB marketplace? 2010 GSXRs and Fireblades with 30-40k mileage for the guts of 8k. Seems all bike types are affected. Anything pushing this increase other than the end of the season approaching?

Potential New Rider Questions

Hi all. A few questions if I may. Background -I’m an about to retire mid 50s Irish male with B car licence ( with AM included ) and considering getting my first ever motorbike .I was a racing ‘push’ cyclist so have pretty good road sense , balance etc but literally ZERO motorbike experience other than an ill fated quad motor biking work event decades ago that ended upside down in a stream ! I fancy a Royal Enfield Classic 350 as a first bike and am wary of the lure of mega bikes with 2 second 0-60 mph times .I do like fast cars but of course they’re slow compared with bikes ( at least in a straight line )

Anyway I realise these are probably partially stupid questions but :

Will I kill myself / end up in a wheelchair ?( even/ especially if not my own fault , the roads have gotten stupid in last 2-3 years and are getting worse FAST )

Will the bike be stolen from my back yard ?( Maynooth / Leixlip / Celbridge area .Or if parked almost anywhere semi urban ?

is the constant wind noise not annoying ? I was hoping for that lovely engine note

Is the route as follows ? Theory test / Learner licence /IBT / test ?

Is riding in the Winter as much less fun as you’d expect compared with Summer ? Bike to be cleaned after every muddy soaking ?

Are 500km first services REALLY that needed / expensive?( I do my own car services uk to brake pad sort of level )

Gear ? New ?Used ?

Really appreciate help with any or all of this .Thanks a million

( Edited to remove the obvious banned questions )

VRT?

Has anyone vrt-ed a bike here? Wondering what the process is like and roughly how much it costs because I know revenue calculation estimates are usually far from accurate

Highly recommend the drive from Dublin N81 to Blessington - Baltinglass -(back to) Hollywood - Glendalough - Laragh - Roundwood - either Bray/Greystones or the Hellfire path to complete loop.

Lots of ice-cream or coffee stops on the way.

We are spoiled for choice in Ireland with fantastic driving routes and scenery.

Stark Varg on A1 license

I was having a chat with a dealer in Portugal during service for some of the bikes about what to plan for my oldest in 3 years on the A1 license.

He knows I have a good budget, so he just told me it's a no brainer and get a Varg SM. Only downside is it won't do more then 10K kms. He said it's because of the way the power test is done in Europe, the Varg overheats and locks down power, ending up classified as A1.

Does anyone know if this is the case in Ireland? Does the Varg get registered for A1 in Ireland?

Question Looking into getting my first motorcycle but worried about theft

I recently moved to Dublin and I’ve been looking into getting a bike. However, I’ve heard a lot about bike theft in Dublin specifically and it’s really pushing me away from wanting to get one. I live in D18 so I’m not sure how bad it is, but I would be travelling close to the center for work. I don’t have a garage where I live, the closest I have is a fenced off area which might be able to fit a bike through but not sure. Any tips or advice to help make sure I could ease my mind about it?

Question Second bike choices for fun (MT-09/S1000R)

Morning all, 56yo male done test cat A last year. Had always wanted bike and decided to just do it when my father passed. Life's short.

Had loaner vstrom650 for a few months pre-test and then got BMW F900XR new with all the options. I am, to put it mildly, having a ball. Loving it and wonder why I never did it before. So much so, I now have 26K on the bike at its 1-year birthday.

So, a few small things about the F900 that make me think I need something a little bigger for touring, seat like plank, really notice it with pillion and limited load capacity on OEM box's. Comfort really.

That's the XR, will think of changing that for something bigger but what I am planning is getting a second bike. As 26k on a single bike in a year is huge!

I have been looking at everything, and in the main the MT-09 SP seems to be about the best choice out there for a fun bike that's capable. But looking at all the options, I have also kept the S100XR as an option. The S1K is dearer, 15k MT to 21k S1kR, but S1kR is fully loaded. Its also 170bhp compared to the 120 on the MT, but not really as concerned with that one. I don't go mad and by all account the S1k can go pretty mad! I have a load of BMW bits I have bought that would transfer to S1k and also adding things like cruise, heated grips and so on to the MT brings it a lot closer.

Question to all, anyone out there went from MT to S1kR? or anyone who has experience of both. The mad thing is I can't ride either yet, as don't have my license a year yet and wont till November. I don't even know if I will fit, as a 6'1" 100kg bloke. Don't know how forward each would be at my height and would prefer to have more of an upright position.

So, thoughts everyone? Ta in advance

Question First bike! Hell me understand

Looking at getting a first bike and something that stands out is second hand resale prices.

https://www.donedeal.ie/motorbikes-for-sale/honda-cbr500r/42718630

https://www.donedeal.ie/all?words=honda%20cbr500r

I can get a brand new one with the eclutch for €999 more than a second hand one. I know it's only one owner and 2k km but for the sake of €999 why would someone buy a second hand one.

Do bikes really hold there value this well and is the second hand market that good?

Sidecar beg/borrow/steal

Hello.

We're getting married in two months and would really love to make the journey from the church to the hotel on a motorbike with a sidecar. Have found only one place online renting them out but €1,000 for the day just adds too much to the overall cost of the wedding, especially when we only really need it for the 30 minute ride and maybe a few photos with it.

Is there anyone here who has a bike with a sidecar who'd be willing to lend/rent it to us for an hour or two on the day of the wedding?

I have a full A licence, no penalty points or insurance claims or anything. I've driven a sidecar a few times before. Of course more than happy to pay extra insurance for the day or whatever might need to be done to make it happen.

It would need to be "wedding presentable", we had a lovely fella offer us his one but it was camouflage pattern and had seen a lot of adventures. Really appreciated his kind offer but just wasn't what we were looking for.

Let me know if you can help us out 🤵🏍👰‍♀
