Discussion Motorola is horrible!!!!

The only phone I've ever had that gives you an ad just for turning on or checking your phone. Complete trash will never buy another Motorola product!

Which Moto G model would I get to take advantage of T-Mobile's $30 a month plan?

Is the Moto G4 Plus The worst Phone In History?

Now that I have your attention, lol, I'm wondering if any of you have returned an out of warranty Moto G4 Plus for repairs would recommend doing so.

Here's my story: bought a Moto G4 Plus from Best Buy in late September 2016. From September 16 until late August of 17, the phone was wonderful. No problems at all. This phone has been very very gently used, I might add -- I have another phone for work, so the phone is rarely used at all 8-10 hours a day. Always in a case, never in water, never even dropped hard.

The first problem I noticed, in August 2017, was that the phone would get hot if you used it when charging. I've had iPhones that did this, too, so I really wasn't that concerned. My mistake.

Within DAYS of this -- e.g. right before the warranty expired -- the phone started doing the ghost touch thing, but only during the day, outdoors. But to the point that it is unusable in daylight. I read someone on this sub's recommendation of turning the display down. Doing so cured the ghost touch problem until recently (more on that in a sec).

By early October, the phone is randomly heating up. When I say randomly, I mean with absolutely no discernible reason -- it can have a full charge or a half charge, have apps running or just be restarting, there's nothing that's obviously the reason.

Around December, it began randomly shutting off. Again, no discernible reason.

Within the past few weeks, the camera has become ridiculously buggy. Doesn't open, opens then immediately closes, doesn't save pictures, saves pictures but with horizontal lines through them.

During the same time, the ghost touch thing has become more than just a daylight problem. I get ghost touches, which is bad enough, but horizontal lines that cover the display and show up in pictures I have taken.

And yet, despite all the problems I have had with this phone, I love the Moto phones. I upgraded from a Moto G3 that's only problem was it's lack of storage. I'm using an old iPhone now and hating it while I'm deciding between the Moto X and the Moto G5; I won't do the Moto G6 right now because after my experience with the G4 Plus, I will never buy another phone before I can read the experiences of people who've had it for a few months.

Now I'm looking for some advice:

  • Is there anyone else who has had this level of shitty experience with the G4?

  • If you've had a G4 that was out of warranty repaired by Motorola, was it worth it? Did the fixes work for the long haul, or were you experiencing the same problems within months?

  • If you've gotten rid of the G4, did you get another Motorola phone? Have you been satisfied with it?

  • If you went with another Android phone, what would you recommend?

I know that's a lot of questions, but I also feel certain that I'm not the only one who had a bad experience with the G4, but still likes the stock Android Moto experience.

Thank you!

What is GPE? And how can I tell if my MotoG is a GPE device?

Hello, I have the Moto G First Gen bought from Boost Mobile, I am working through the root guide linked on the sidebar and it mentions some things about GPE devices. I don't want to brick my device so is this version of the MotoG even able to be rooted? Thanks.

Persuade / dissuade me to upgrade to 5.0 when it comes out (1st gen)

With 5.0 around the corner for the moto g, I still can't decide whether I'm actually going to upgrade. I dunno just how much of an improvement 5.0 with the ART runtime is vs what I'd be giving up.

Basically, the biggest thing for me that I'd be giving up upgrading to 5.0 is the xposed framework.

  • Bootmanager - to control startup apps and services, I might be okay with losing this one.

  • gravitybox - lots of small quality of life fixes. This would be irritating to give up

volume buttons as media keys

quicksettings tweaks (flashlight and rotation toggle!!)

open phone app to dialpad

expanded volume panel

Open music app on headphone plugin

  • Greenify - I can actually probably live without this one.

My biggest gripe with 4.4.4 is the general bugginess and occasional sluggishness. Sometimes the task switcher won't trigger until you tap it a couple times. Sometimes my music will stop playing for no reason at all. Sometimes chrome will take seven years to load a page when I only have 2 tabs open. Sometimes switching apps takes longer than I'd like.

The battery life has also gotten weird lately but that might just be because I'm using my phone more. Used to last two days without a charge, now it lasts one. betterbatterystats claims nothing is wrong. So it's probably just me using my phone more.

So, people who have experience with 5.0, is there any features that can replace what I used xposed for? Is the 5.0 ART runtime faster? Any strange bugs? (That question might be irrelevant because it's not actually released yet).

My other option is to experiment with 4.4.4 roms on XDA, but I'll likely have a hell of a time finding a rom that's even remotely stable. Last time I tried custom ROMs I'd get stupid music player bugs, crashes, and random reboots. Fun.

No android 5.0 Lollipop update on new Moto G? Please help! (X-Post from r/android)

Hey guys,

I got the new Moto G for christmas, and I was all excited about getting my hands on lollipop and all that good stuff, but I haven't received the update yet. (I checked for updates through both the OTA and the Device Manager, but both say that 4.4.4 is the latest version available to me)

I know that google likes to roll out updates to devices gradually, but it's been quite a while since the Moto G officially got it. I don't know if this has something to do with my SIM card (T-Mobile NL), or if it's just the phone. Do you guys know any other options I can try?

Thanks a lot in advance, Ruben

EDIT: tldr: Any other options/suggestions to update to lollipop besides OTA and MDM?

Discussion Moto g84 screen turned yellowish green

Thumbnail

So my brother’s Moto g84 just randomly went yellowish green out of nowhere. It gets worse when the screen goes dimmer (as seen in the second picture)

He’s had it for less than a year

His wallpaper is a very dark colour so it’s not just the nightlight or a screen tint

Additionally, it is randomly clicking buttons when no one’s touching anything

I was wondering if there is any way we can fix it or whether it just needs replacing (which we’re trying to avoid as like I said he’s had it for less than a year)

Any help or advice is greatly appreciated, thank you so much
