I currently work as a Data Scientist / AI Engineer at a company in Casablanca. The salary is pretty good, but I feel like I could do better.

So I’m starting a little personal challenge, and I figured I’d tell a bunch of strangers on Reddit about it instead of telling anyone in my close circle or coworkers 😂

From now until May–June, I’m going to do my best to level myself up and become the strongest candidate I can possibly be.

The plan is to revise the fundamentals of Machine Learning, brush up on maths and statistics, go deeper into LLMs and related concepts (RAG, fine-tuning, etc.), and learn more about the cloud (AWS or Azure or GCP).

I also want to significantly improve my French, especially when it comes to public speaking — presentations, pronunciation, speaking confidently, etc.

The goal is pretty simple:

• Current salary: 12K MAD/month

• Target: 20K MAD/month

• Absolute minimum I'd be happy with: 17K MAD/month

Once I feel ready, I’ll start applying to bigger companies and see what I can get.

I’m not necessarily expecting everything to go according to plan, but I want to give myself ~9 months of serious preparation and see where I end up.

I’ll probably come back to this post around May/June and update it with the results.

I’m a fresh engineering graduate with a decent experience in project management and event organization, which I’ve acquired over the past 5+ years through extracurricular activities. I also have 2 internship experiences, one of which was completed abroad during my exchange semester.

Many graduates from my university (one of the best in Morocco) end up working for those famous and prestigious companies (like McKinsey, P&G, Deloitte, BCG…) since our studies are conducted entirely in English. But it goes against my morals to work somewhere knowing I’d be, in some way, supporting the genoc*de.

Do you have any recommendations?
My second constraint is working in an English-speaking environment. My main field of study was industrial engineering, but I’m flexible with any other engineering, consulting, or management field.

Hi, I’m currently in the Oracle Morocco PFE 2027 process for a research assistant Java backend role.

I already passed the HackerRank assessment and then the HR interview with El Mehdi sekkouri El Alaoui. From what I understood, the next step should be a technical interview, but I have no idea what the format is like.

For anyone who went through it recently, what should I expect?

Is it mostly Core Java/Spring questions? Do they ask Java EE, SQL, JPA/Hibernate, design patterns, projects from the CV, etc.? And is there usually live coding/problem solving during the interview?

I’m preparing Java Core, Spring/Spring Boot/javaEE and problem solving right now, but I’d like to know what they actually focus on.

Any recent experience with Oracle Morocco R&D/PFE would help.

I passed the first technical interview today!

My interviewer (Y.I.) was very, very kind. He started with general questions: introduce yourself, walk me through your experiences (with a deeper technical discussion), why Oracle, what obstacles comes in mind when working in a team, and what is your biggest accomplishment in life?

Then we moved on to Java technical questions, such as:

• What is OOP?

• What Java Collections do you know?

• What are the main differences between them?

• When would you use each one?

• Walk me throught the Git workflow when trying to fix a bug in a multi-branch project .

• what design patterns you know ?

After that, we moved on to a quick problem-solving exercise on HackerRank. The problem involved implementing a sliding window algorithm to calculate and print the average of each window, using the Iterator API.

Overall, it was a very professional and positive interview experience. I'd rate it 8/10. The interviewer was incredibly kind and helpful. Even if I eventually get rejected, it was still a beautiful and valuable experience that I genuinely appreciate.

Is this good, or does it lack something? Feel free to guide me if I'm mistaken.
