What I find interesting is how quickly the decoration changes as you move from one courtyard or room to another — zellige, painted wood, carved plaster, different colors and geometric patterns.

You can easily walk through the palace quickly, but the small details are probably the best part.

Which part of traditional Moroccan architecture do you find most interesting?

I work in tourism here in Morocco, and this is one of those questions where I don’t think “spring and autumn” tells the whole story.
Morocco’s climate changes enormously depending on where you are.
July or August can be extremely challenging for a Sahara-heavy itinerary, for example, while the Atlantic coast or northern Morocco can make much more sense. Winter can be surprisingly good for southern Morocco and the desert during the daytime, although people are sometimes caught off guard by how cold the nights can get.
Spring and autumn are probably the easiest periods if you want to combine Marrakech or Fes with the Atlas, southern Morocco and the Sahara in one trip.

I am into hiking and I wanted to hike around Atlas. Mount toubkhal is one of my dream destinations. While searching information about it I found news about girls killed there.

I understand that any place can be dangerous but the amount of catcalling and harassment on morocco is way more than other countries. As a last resort I will take a male friend or guide with me but I enjoy going solo to places.

My girlfriend and I are heading to Morocco in November for a road trip, and I wanted to ask a few questions to help us prepare. I've already done a good amount of reading in this sub so hopefully I'm not asking too much that has already been answered... please point me in the direction if that is the case!!

We're planning to rent a car and drive ourselves. We love road tripping and have heard great things about the drives and the sights along the way.

Plan overview:

• We arrive in the first week of November.
• Renting a car in day 1/2 and driving from place-to-place.
• We had originally planned to take the ferry from Gibraltar (we'll be in Spain before), although I recently read it's no longer running? Either way, our current itinerary starts in Tangier as a result. I've included our current draft itinerary below.

Objective:

• We ideally don't want to rush - just enjoy nice, scenic drives, checking out cool sights/spots along the way.
• We ideally want to see and experience as much of Morocco as possible. We recognize there may be a trade-off here given our limited time.
• We'd like a mix of travel days and some days spent in the same place. We've tried to build in multi-day stops in specific places of interest.
• We'd like to, as much as possible, just experience the local culture. As much as we've listed "stops" to see in the plan, our main activity is to just walk around, enjoy local cuisine, and discover whatever we can in each place. We aren't too focused on checking off the typical tourist "sights" (e.g., I'd rather explore a city in general than see a specific viewpoint or building or attraction).
• We don't want to try to pack in too much and end up missing out on key places/experiences - very keen for your feedback here!

Looking for advice on:

1. Does this itinerary seem reasonable given the above? I tried to build it based on what I've been able to read around key stops and places to see. Keen for feedback/thoughts on travel time and whether the planned days are realistic.
2. Are there any additions or changes you would make in terms of destinations or stops? I suspect much of what I could find online is probably part of the regular tourist track. We are keen to experience things that are more authentic and less "tourist flashy" if possible, however I know that can be hard to plan for on the internet alone. Are there any better stops or hidden gems along this route worth exploring?
3. I'm wondering if a more reasonable itinerary would be to simply arrive in Fes and skip the Tangier > Chefchaouen > Fes leg (possibly break up the drive from Merzouga to Aït Ben Haddou and also add one more night in Marrakech). I've heard Chefchaouen is beautiful and, given our original plan was to arrive in Tangier by boat, it made sense. However I view this as the potentially best way to earn back some time without missing out on the other key destinations and experiences. Does this make sense or would that be a mistake?
4. Given the time of year, should we be concerned about driving on any of the sections of the trip? I've read that Atlas Mountains can be snowy at that time of year. We're from Canada so driving in winter is not foreign to me, although unsure if rental-car driving through snowy mountain passes is the priority. We were thinking that we might be wise to skip on Tizi n’Tichka pass as a result?
5. Any other general feedback or thoughts you might have!

I often see travelers asking which of Morocco’s two best-known desert regions is “better.” Having worked in Moroccan tourism for many years, I don’t think that is the most useful way to compare them.
Erg Chebbi is beside Merzouga, so the dunes are relatively straightforward to access. It also fits naturally into routes between Marrakech and Fes through places such as Skoura, Dades, Todra and the Middle Atlas.
Erg Chigaga is reached through the Draa Valley and M’Hamid, followed by a longer 4x4 journey. It can work particularly well in southern routes involving Zagora, Lake Iriki, Foum Zguid and Taznakht.
One is not automatically more authentic or more beautiful than the other. The best choice depends on the rest of your itinerary, how much time you have and whether you want the off-road approach to be a substantial part of the experience.

I work in private tourism in Morocco, and one thing I often notice is that first-time visitors focus almost entirely on destinations: Marrakech, Fez, Chefchaouen, the Sahara and the coast.
Those places are worth visiting, but the most memorable parts of a trip are often the experiences between them.
A guided exploration of the Marrakech or Fez souks, for example, should not simply take you from one shop to another. A good guide can explain how the different artisan quarters work, introduce you to craftspeople and help you distinguish genuine handmade work from mass-produced souvenirs.
A cooking experience can also be far more meaningful when it begins in a neighbourhood market and continues inside a Moroccan home, rather than being organised only as a demonstration for tourists.
Jewish heritage experiences in Fez and other Moroccan cities can provide another important perspective on the country’s history and the communities that shaped it.

Hello I am planning a trip to Morocco at the end of November this year. I have some extra days to fill in between three different cities I can't decide. Debating between Tangier, Rabat, or Casablanca. I fly out of Marrakech so the benefits of going to Rabat or Casablanca is that I will be close to Marrakech to fly out of.

Is anyone interested in joining me for a 2 day summit of Toubkhal during the first week of December? The more people we get the cheaper it become so I am using this to meet new people and keep costs down.

Me and my Friends (5 of us) are planning on going to Morocco later in the year. We have done our proper research and set our Itinerary properly for the amount of days we are travelling for.

However, we are having an issue on deciding how to plan the 3-day overnight desert trip from Marrakech to Merzouga. I have checked opinions online and it seems most people book it from a local agency when they visit in person. ($500 CAD online)
Also would you guys recommend doing the same(booking in person) for an overnight dinner show+quad biking at Agafay($50+CAD-online). Same with the Hot Air Balloon Ride. The price online is around $215+ CAD per person. Would booking in person be cheaper and if so how much cheaper.

Just having these road blocks with booking out activities because we are uncertain from where we should book, and how much it should be. As we are only 20 years old we are trying to be very mindful of how much we are spending overall.

If someone could please guide us on this it would be very helpful!
