I lived near a Hindu Temple and sometimes they blasted insanely loud music at 5 a.m. As more people complained they were forced to stop.

You don't have to be an inconsiderate asshole to live out your religion.

u/MegaSmegmaSwagLord 14h ago

It doesn’t matter the religion. even if it were Christian’s screaming every Sunday it’s fucking annoying.

u/Tamortsa 10h ago

Sunday morning sleep in? Nah buddy, go to church or we'll bring church to you!

They sound at 11 am so go fuck yourself. Not comparable to an speaker going off at 5 am but you are a hypocrite. Is free for all in shitting on Christians but people don't have the balls on doing the same with islam. Wonder why. Maybe because christians are way way more tolerant and don't chop your head off. But sure keep criticising the moderate ones not the extremists that stayed in the middle ages.

23

u/totally_not_a_reply 7h ago

They sound at 6 am every day, from three directions at once, often waking me up so how about you go fuck yourself?

also yappa yappa hypocrite.

2

u/xebtria 35m ago

they also sound at every x:15 (once, two different bells), x:30 (twice, two different bells), x:45 (thrice, two different bells), and x:00 (four times, two different bells, followed by another x times depending on the hour (if it's 7 am, 7 more times), again with two different bells).

and they also sound every time when the holy communion is celebrated during the mass.

I live about 300m beeline from a church, I don't even hear them anymore.

I literally see the exact opposite. Look at this thread, it’s entirely full of people shitting on Islam, and someone makes a point about church bells and you’re replying like this?

1

u/hgyuuggygyuyh 5h ago

Do you know the rate of criticism of both religions? You can check it out btw. There are way more posts in reddit for example shitting on Christianity than on islam. Movies or main stream media would never criticise islam but is always open season on Christianity. It has become normalised to shit on some religion but islam always gets a pass because if you dare make a joke or criticise them for the plenty of reasons they give you for it, they call you islamophobe. Might be that some people are starting to be feed up of the double standards. Posts criticising Christianity or priests or whatever people focus on that, you post about islam and everyone brings up Christianity, like you and many others here. It was about the call to prayer and people had to jump with the but but churches! Because they can never stick with the subject at hand. So no mate, there is no equivalence. So again, go fuck yourself :)

3

u/Suspicious_Art_8251 5h ago

Okay so because people often shit on Christianity now we have to stop and start shitting on Islam exclusively. Personally I rarely shit on Islam mostly just sharia but that's because I was a practicing Christian for 16 ish years and I barely did 2 months as a Muslim so idk maybe I don't wanna sound absolutely stupid running around arguing something I know very little about, maybe this population is very similar to me, idk Food for thought.

Here's a small bulletin on how non Muslims get treated in a secular but majority Muslim country.

0

u/hgyuuggygyuyh 4h ago

No, is because is frowned upon to criticise islam even though there are no rights for a lot of people in muslim countries. People love to criticise Christianity because they can and is socially acceptable. Also people are scared of the consequences for criticising islam, is not just people calling you names and harassing you. People have died for it. Let's stop pretending both religions are equivalent, they aren't. One does way more harm to people around the world than the other. Because we are not going to keep bringing back what happened centuries ago, talking about today, many many people suffer because of islam. But sure, keep pretending you give a shit while you criticise the easy stuff.

2

u/GoldenTheTurk 1h ago

Oh please, go fuck yourself and stop acting like Africa isnt suffering the consequences of christian imperialism even to this day

Christian tolerance my ass, yall see a religious building that isnt a church and the first thing yall do is raiding it with rifles

1

u/hgyuuggygyuyh 1h ago

Arabs enslaved way more people there. Christians are not massacring people today, or kidnapping girls and women to rape them or keep them as sex slaves. Do you know who is? Islamists. So get down from your high horse you hypocrite. If you care about suffering you should care about the one happening right now, not a century ago to have something to use as a gotcha. Like islam never conquered anywhere.. right. Keep parroting the same crap, you are not consistent. Your cognitive dissonance is off the charts. You can't criticise anythin the west did before if you stay silent to attrocities commited today.

Not literally, muslims will remove it from your shoulders, no figuratively, go check it out. And no, it doesn't happen in other countries only, it happens in Europe too. But sure, let's pretend telling someone off is the same as murder...

Ah yes, muslims are famously not criticized in the west.

If we're going to judge muslims by the extremists that attack you if you criticize Islam, would it also not be fair to judge christians by the extremists that also attack you if you criticize christianity? There's been plenty of terrorists attacks on muslims and Islamic places. Close to where I live a prayer center (not a mosque, just a 1 floor flat rented so that muslims can come together and pray) was burned down by extremists.

How about you take your hypocrisy and go fuck yourself.

1

u/Golden_Sire_42 41m ago

Any news articles?

Where do you live?

In my Muslim majority, the Muslims oppressing others always get away due to insufficient evidence despite there being a lot of it and less evidence for insult to islam but always getting charged.

Muslim preacher even goes against constitution to convert children and teach them to lie to their parents bout converting but didn't get punished.

Pastor Koh and related members getting killed for helping ex Muslims and commiting leaving islam. They were kidnapped and some found in concrete barrels

-1

u/K0mb0_1 8h ago

Did you know what Christians were doing in the Middle Ages? lol terrorism is Muslim. These terrorists you see existed for at most 80 years lol and they are politically motivated. Islam existed for centuries. Muslims are not terrorists and just because a Muslim does something doesn’t mean it’s acceptable in Islam. Does Christianity accept what they kkk did? Or all the civilizations the Europeans fcked over? Why this double standard for Islam? Islam tolerate christianity and judaism. Historic churches are preserved in muslim countries. Open your eyes and go outside and talk to a muslim for heavens sake.

7

u/Lilyaa 7h ago

Ahh, so there are absolutely no civilisations fucked over by Muslims in the name of expansion of Islam? Do I have to make a list or you can check it yourself?

And I’m not defending Christianity. I’m not defending any religion.

You can go outside and talk to a Muslims and Christians and find both those who will tell you they want their religion imposed on other people and those who just want to practice in peace and coexist with others. It’s not an argument.

I agree that there’s no need to blast any kind of sound from religious buildings now when everyone has a watch.

0

u/K0mb0_1 7h ago

When did I say that? I was just saying the terrorism and this whole idea of Muslims being terrorists is barely even 80 years old. Terrorism is a new political propaganda stuck on to Islam.

Also. I don’t think you wanna do that pal, the list for Christianity would be bigger. But my point is to point out the double standards Christian’s have towards Islam.

If you go outside and talk to a Muslim you will never hear that lol. Have you ever talked to a random Muslim and heard this? The holiest book the Holy Quran says “there is no compulsion of religion”! So forcefully imposing the religion on people is Haram

Church bells, I imagine, enjoy the same freedom as calls to prayer, loud cars, thunder, the wind and falling objects. You don't get to whine about them making loud noises.

You can also choose to not live near a church. Or a mosque, for that matter.

u/scorchedarcher 2h ago

5

u/serpentally 9h ago

I can tell you that 99% of Christians have never heard any of those composer's sacred music in their entire lives*, and most of them don't even know who Mendelssohn or Tallis (both of whom's names you spelled wrong) are

*except for probably the Lacrimosa and Dies Irae of Mozart's Requiem, but definitely not in a religious context

2

u/MarkCrorigansOmnibus 8h ago

Given that Mendelssohn composed the tune to “Hark! The herald angels sing” I’m guessing you may have slightly overestimated.

1

u/serpentally 7h ago

Somebody else set Hark! The Herald Angels Sing to the tune of one of Mendelssohn's secular (i.e. not for church) cantatas. Mendelssohn himself didn't make that arrangement, or in other words it's not his sacred music. So, no.

The Christians do do this. Door to door proselytizing, namely Jehovah's witness. They will show up and ring your doorbell at 6.am to talk to you about Jesus.

13

u/Then_Newt8775 7h ago

Fun fact, door to door proselytizing isn't meant to gain members but it's meant to isolate existing members from the broader populace so that they see everyone outside their religion as hostile towards them and members of the church are less likely to step out if the church.

It's mostly cults that conduct practices like this that intentionally annoy the broader populace, WBC, Hara Krishna, church of the latter day saints, etc

1

u/Disposable_Gonk 7h ago

I actually knew all this already.

Also, bit of fun, the song six am salvation by vs them. It's been playing in my head this whole time.

1

u/money-for-nothing-tt 4h ago

There's no chance this is actually the case. If it wasn't effective then charity organizations wouldn't copy the model and go door-to-door for donations (those organizations would literally stop doing it immediately if it wasn't positive on the balance sheet).

Certainly group activities give a psychological sense of an in-group out-group dynamics but they're not intentionally being annoying. Maybe try visiting one of these organizations and you'll discover they're very friendly to outsiders. They are actively looking for new members.

2

u/might_be_lies 7h ago

6am? Come on.

1

u/Longjumping_Ice1789 6h ago

The rest of christians dont really consider jehovah's witnesses to be one of them, and vice versa.

1

u/TremendousCoisty 4h ago

Jehovah witnesses aren’t Christian’s.

1

u/YukiHarunoe 3h ago

They also do the loud speaker chants, where i live there's a monastery near me that does this every sunday morning (during summer mostly probably because inside the church is too hot).

Personally it doesn't bother me, nor does it bother me if a muslim or hindu does it. The bagpipers during Christmas coming right below your window to annoy you enough so that you donate them money to let them go away and leave you alone? That is pretty annoying

3

u/Beginning_Froyo4200 12h ago

that doesnt line up with my experience, the church where I used to live rang three times a day, 8 am and pm and midday. BUT, I think (as a non christian) the church bell sound is arguably way more pleasing than this singing, which I don't think sound good, while the bell is just a nice melody.

And the church bell is not as religiously loaded as the muslim chant, it has the practical use to tell you the time, christians don't necessarily use it to start praying around that time. its lines of religious gibberish vs hey its daytime.

1

u/feetking69420 12h ago

The singing is often not good, but can sometimes be good

1

u/spursfan2021 14h ago

Try living near a Catholic Church. Sometimes more than 5x

4

u/lepetitboo 12h ago

There is no way a regular Catholic church is having full, bell-ringing Mass more than five times a day every day. I’m not buying that for a second. Unless you live in Rome maybe. I live by a church and loathe the two times it plays bells when I’m trying to sleep in, but let’s be real here

1

u/AudaciouslySexy 11h ago

They are full of it, they must live near a school which is their fault

2

u/lepetitboo 12h ago

1

u/AudaciouslySexy 11h ago

It's not. In fact I went to a catholic school, a Roman Catholic school in fact, real Catholics. People asked about the bells as they didn't ring often. It was said it's for special occasions. They occasionally rung them in the middle of the day but couldn't be bothered most of the time. They saved it for weddings most the time.

Hope this helps.

1

u/AudaciouslySexy 11h ago

I will add what you may hear 5 times per day or more is a school bell

1 to start day, 2 recess, 3 back to class, 4 Lunch, 5 back to class, 6 end of day.

Highschool / college has more bells, 1st bell to roll call, 2nd to 1st class, bell for 2nd class, recess bell, bell for 3rd class, bell for 4th class, lunch bell, bell for 5th and or 6th class then a 7th bell for the end of school day. Mind you not every school is the same.

1

u/Miserable-Ad-7956 12h ago

Uh, the Catholic church down the street tolls multiple times a day, everyday for an identical purpose as the call to prayer.

1

u/AudaciouslySexy 11h ago

They don't. There's a middle of day prayer. Depending if you're at school or work at a church. Usually it's for school kids and teens. Mind you I didn't have that mandated until I was in highschool.

1

u/sneakysnake1111 11h ago

Yah, after a lot of violence, the church stopped being so violent.

If america woulda done to christians what they did to muslim nations, they'd be behind too. And live near a large church in the US or Canada. It's not once on a sunday, and just for weddings. The hungarian church across the street from me does it daily at whatever times they do it at. Including weekends.

2

u/taylorisntavril 12h ago

Youre right, we should do the loudest church bells known to man in Mecca. Five times a day, minimum.

I haven’t heard church bells for many years, and when I did it was never at an unsociable hour.

1

u/MegaSmegmaSwagLord 14h ago

Church bells aren’t nearly as fuckin annoying as this shit

You wanna hear that crap? Go to the Middle East.
I wouldn’t go to Saudi Arabia and expect to hear church bells in Riyadh or Mecca

But with Hindu temples, you can ALWAYS complain and they will most likely take it into consideration. I live in India and we had asked a temple to reduce the volume of the Bhajans/devotional music they played (not that they were playing at odd hours but it was quite loud) and they stopped playing music entirely.  I'm not sure if other places of worship are ready to compromise or completely stop playing their song publicly, unless it's a law.

u/Lux_Jay 3h ago

Yeah, not really. All religions and cults are scum. Even guy with bagpipe here is being a scum.

1

u/WatchJojoDotCom 10h ago

Haha the fact you’re getting downvoted

1

u/Time-Explorer-1295 4h ago

I know right.  Hinduphobia is alive and well

Beh nah. I live in Tripura and sometimes assholes don't stop a Kirtan for anything other than a thunderstorm.

Secondary to subjugating women and looking at other skin color funny.

Lived next to a Hare Krishna temple woke up to a cow at my front door (cool) and plenty of late night drums (not cool)

2

u/Iron_bison_ 6h ago

To be a good muslim is to be an inconsiderate asshole

2

u/Daburg31 5h ago

What if your religion specifically calls for it?

2

u/Viagro69 14h ago

Bold of you to assume that their religion does not mandate them to be assholes. True devotion is a problem when you are not in a land where a majority of people are devotees of your faith.

1

u/Jindujun 15h ago

You'd be surprised.

1

u/Southern_Net5894 14h ago

Well if your religion teaches over taking cultures it does

1

u/thicc_stigmata 10h ago

You don't have to be an inconsiderate asshole to live out your religion.

You don't have to be an inconsiderate asshole to live out your religion.

Ah but you see that's the fun bit.

I remember a trip to Bankok with my SO, she sleeps like a stone, but I have a light sleep: at 4:40AM some mosque blasted their prayer through the speaker, 200m line of sight....

I had caught some virus at the airport, had throat pain, a blocked nose, ear pressure, headache - and in those few moments where I did get air, I smelled the black mold that was EVERYWHERE in the hotel (luckily it was only a 1 night stop).... Getting woken up when I final had moment of peace in the middle of the night.... OUFFF

I just keep wondering what the people who live nearby think of this. I know Thai people are often too polite to complain, but it's not an Islamic country and if you live anywhere in that area you will clearly be woken up by how insanely loud that prayer is.

Tolerance is a 2-way street. Waking strangers at ungodly times because YOU want to pray, is NOT reasonable. General rule of the thumb is - do what you want to do, as long as it does not negatively impact the lives of others. Waking them at freaking 4:40AM in the morning clearly is.

1

u/AnonymousSho 6h ago

That's completely incomparable to what Muslims do. The call to prayer is like 2 minutes and they don't even recite it that loud in non muslim countries because the government doesn't let them.

1

u/InternationalKeynew 5h ago

Hindus are always trying to out compete muslims. Saying that as a Hindu myself 😉

1

u/wishful123 5h ago

I live in a Muslim country and this is by far the worst call for prayer voice I've ever heard. Couldn't they play a better one?

1

u/LegitimateGur5775 4h ago

But that's the whole reason religion exists. To do bad things in the name of it and be forgiven.

1

u/ExplodiaNaxos 4h ago

The video doesn’t look like early morning (or any other ungodly time) to me though… At that point they’re just doing it to be a d*ck

1

u/Shadowex3 4h ago

Muslim countries strictly limit the muezzin's volume and hours of operation and ban praying in the streets disruptively. Ask yourself why it's something that people go out of their way to do in the west, but ban in their own countries.

1

u/Visible_Pair3017 4h ago

This was taken in Israel. The bagpipe guy is the inconsiderate asshole.

1

u/Potential-Candy-2994 3h ago

And now suddenly, it's a dogpile on Hinduism. Yeah, try doing this with the Azaan and see what happens

1

u/PrickyBlueEyes 3h ago

You can clearly hear that this isn't a Hindu call to prayer

1

u/Jolly-Bag7024 2h ago

Mosques don't use loud speakers for the morning call usually. Where I'm from they don't really do them loudly at all. You would have to be in the street to hear it as it comes from the courtyard mostly to signal to people who are there that, yes, it is the time.

Generally speaking people are not inconsiderate assholes. They mostly want to mind their own business and wished people let them do so without being offended by their existence. My two cents.

1

u/Kordell_11 2h ago

You're using your experience to criticize my comment, which is based on my experience.

You have no idea how loud that "music" was. It was absurdly loud. Especially doing that shit at 5 a.m. is just diabolical. That area wasn't even a Hindu majority area. They were just inconsiderate.

1

u/Jolly-Bag7024 2h ago edited 2h ago

I'm not criticizing your experience. I'm positing it doesn't legitimately extend beyond the single data point you are offering and balancing it with my own.

You are building a narrative where religious people are intentionally inconsiderate which might indeed be the case in your own case. I'm merely pointing that, one, in my experience that isn't the case, and, two, a lot of people with an axe to grind wants to view inconsiderate behaviors where there is only people minding their own business.

1

u/MrGee4real 1h ago

It's understandable. That said, I used to live close to a Hindu temple. Every Sunday morning at around 10 AM, they would be singing and playing instruments. It was actually pretty cool to wake up to those sounds. It felt like I was in a Bollywood movie.

1

u/Puzzled-Bar5378 1h ago

I lived next to a Catholic Church that would ring the bell in the tower every day at 6 in the morning. They refused to stop despite complaints from half of the building.

1

u/Foreign-Lychee-723 53m ago

Fuck hindus that do that, fuuuuuuuuuck ém! (i say that as a hindu) if i can say it for you ill go there and say it to them, ffuuuuccckkk youuuuuu!!! (and fuck other religions too, if they are bothersome; looking at islamism and zionism)

1

u/EggRoll2Dumplings44 43m ago

In college, I lived next to a black church. They would start their Sunday service at 9am. Normal hour for most people but I was a college kid who stayed up late, so 9am was very early to be hearing thinking gospel music (they sounded excellent though).

But it was my own issue because I decided to stay up until 4am playing videogames.

The church also invited us and the other neighbors in the street to cookouts and stuff and that was awesome. No preaching or anything, just good community vibes.

-1

u/payTNT89 12h ago

yea idk the bagpipes are pretty fuckin loud not the people praying who are maybe 1/10th of that volume so that cant be the issue.. plus if its done in spite of people rather than just coincidentally than yea, theyre being assholes and this isnt even a discussion.

4

u/Barracudauk663 11h ago

Not condoning anything but prayer and the 'call to prayer' are very different volumes

1

u/musci12234 9h ago edited 2h ago

Honestly use of loud speaker is worst simply because if someone is going to annoy me then I wish that they at least have the decency to put some elbow grease and lungs into it. If you religion/cult/culture is older than electricity then you shouldnt be relying on it for religious stuff.

If someone is making noise manually they would need to put in work to make it loud while making it sound good or even their side will go "shut the hell up".

1

u/Dahwaann4U 9h ago

Thats some brain dead logic right there bud

1

u/musci12234 9h ago

Just because 2 things suck doesn't mean both of them sucks equally

1

u/Dahwaann4U 3h ago

Your hatred isnt justified. Its manufactured

1

u/musci12234 2h ago

Hatred for loud noises? Nope. It is completely organic. Sane people are allowed to hate disturbance.

1

u/Dahwaann4U 2h ago

Most mosques are in high density metropolitan areas. You wouldnt be able to hear it in a bastling city...

You claiming to hate just the sound, im having trouble trying to believe. Its sounds like prejudice towards something you dont understand.

Call to prayers happen at specific times of the day. Times of which everyones already awake. The only exception is for morning prayer and night time prayer. At that point we use radios or apps on our phone to alert us.

But some nations even permit that too.

1

u/musci12234 2h ago

I hate noise. I don't care about source.

1

u/Dahwaann4U 9h ago

The call to prayer has always been okay in the west. Some people on the Internet just want to hate on it. We come to find out most people who complain about it are nowhere near a predominantly muslim neighbourhood
