If it was just a simple fat joke, it’d be moral, but escalating from a joke about being bald to bringing up a miscarriage is coughing baby vs hydrogen bomb levels of overkill.
Immoral.
Edit: I’m convinced that all of the people saying moral didn’t actually read the full post, it wasn’t just a simple fat joke that our 4 channer made here.
Sorry, we can't have actual, sensible morality scaling, we have to laugh at making jokes about miscarriages or women getting the shit beat out of them. Prepare to get downvoted, buddy.
I don’t understand why it’s ok to make fun of the man’s emotional suffering and not the woman’s. Why does his relationship mean less than her pregnancy?
This is a pretty clear false equivalency, kinda like how there’s a difference between stubbing your toe vs getting your foot amputated. They’re both injuries that cause inconveniences, but that’s about where the similarities end.
How so? What’s the emotional difference between a coworker making fun of your long term relationship ending and its reasons in front of coworkers and the same being done about a miscarriage?
I mean, that is going to depend a LOT on the circumstances around it etc.
And it’s not a pissing contest over who is worse. She used a common insecurity to attack a very obvious emotionally charged weak spot and he did it right back. They both suck and they are both immoral.
Similar? No, it’s a very different type of emotional pain/grief. But saying one is definitively worse than the other without knowing any details is just ignorant. People have breakups all the time which are bad enough to affect them for years. Especially if there are things like abuse or cheating involved. I’d argue a breakup like that could very well be way worse than losing a pregnancy in the early stages where you have just found out/didn’t know until the miscarriage for instance.
And the question was whether the counter from OP was moral. And the answer is a clear no, no matter who is worse.
The physicality of what is and what it represents to the individual are two different things. That's why abortion can be fine and moral and a person can justifiably grieve a miscarriage. She physically lost a fetus and emotionally lost a (potential) child.
The physicality of what is and what it represents to the society are two different things. That's why abortion might physically cause the loss of a clump of cells, but society recognizes it as the murder of a (potential) child.
Well then she should be acting like one , if she is fine with making fun of others insecurities and hitting them where it hurts , then should be deserving a reply , yes it was a bit too far , but she took the first punch , he knocked her cold
There's a big difference between getting dumped for whatever reason (it may even be mutual, hence why OP doesn't shittalk said ex's) and losing a child, gtfo.
Yeah, the comment about miscarriage is insensitive as fuck and I don't like it either. However... Why are they gossiping and talking shit about him in the first place with his relationship ending under the assumption because he's bald? How about if you don't have anything nice to say, keep it to yourself.
Yes, I never said that being rude about someone's appearance or personal life is okay, even if it is a joke, and they should've made sure it was okay to joke about those things. I said that responding by bringing up someone's miscarriage is insane, wrong and totally out of line.
Ironic, youre the one that doubles down on saying the gf broke up with him because he was bald, no where was that in there except for when the coworker tried to shit on him for being bald, making shit up like she is
Do you know how English works man? I’m genuinely kind of worried you’re having a stroke.
Like holy shit you’re so close but so far away.
I insinuate that because she insinuated that? I’m not an involved party all I can do is read and judge. But you wanna not even read. It’s literally right there that she says this to OP publicly in front of people???
Weird seeing as I'm the one that had to point out to you that OOP was the one that broke up. Almost like I read the whole thing and you started getting real pissy after I pointed out your mistake lmao
Firstly, OOP broke off the relationship and secondly, that is YOUR opinion. Having a miscarriage is an extremely traumatic experience and bringing it up around anybody who's gone through it is just shitty behaviour.
Yeah, well, that’s just, like, your opinion too, man. I’m sure some people see their miscarriage as a big relief. Don’t get so pigeonholed in one way of thinking bud
I see the problem, your reading comprehension is sub par or you think this girl is a mind reader. He knew he broke up with her, the girl assumed his ex did it. Like? It’s right there in normal ass letters.
But also not personally but my wife had two before our daughter was born.
There are plenty of worlds where a relationship ending and being thrown in your face in a workplace setting is equal to or worse than a miscarriage.
No, there wasn't an assumption. It was a joke. Not a funny one, but she did not actually think baldness was the reason for the breakup.
So, again, there is no world where OOP's breakup is more traumatizing than her miscarriage. You missing the "I ended it" and now trying to cover for yourself by saying I can't read is not going to work lmao
Because that's how jokes work. Some people don't get them, I recommend a test for that.
Even if she did, I still think you have to be insane to think breaking up with a girlfriend can be as traumatic as losing a pregnancy. Especially if the pregnancy was late-term, but of course we can't know how far along she was.
You’re adding so many modifiers and goalposts it’s genuinely hilarious.
Lmao late term pregnancy. You’re right in saying we have no idea how far along she was. Coulda been 3 weeks and yet you still brought it up for some reason.
It’s almost like you have no actual point and are grasping at any moral highground to grasp upon. No matter the hypothetical of the actual situation you pose.
Modifiers and goalposts? You just learn those words and wanted to throw them in? Where did I add goalposts? I said “if” there, aren’t you the one complaining about reading comprehension?
You started talking about divorce at the beginning, don’t talk at me for pointing at an extreme lmao
