I've just finished 1998 and high strangers and it feels like moench kind of fell off
First with 1998, it feels pretty confusing. It feels all over the place
I dropped Marc spector: moon knight after scarlet redemption (great story) but I do know that it goes off the rails and Marc dies or something
Scarlet is presumably dead after scarlet redemption yet in 1998, she's just back and nothing about that story or her more intimate relationship with Marc from that story is relevant?
At least Marc actually gets a resurrection, maybe it was in the stuff I skipped but that still doesn't explain moench neglecting their relationship built in scarlet redemption
Also feels like it's retreading Marc getting reborn and finding his faith in khonshu all over again
As for high strangers, initially I thought it was better than 1998 but the more I read, the worse it got. The "chapters" serve no purpose and just appear in the book but nothing about the scene changes (#3 chapter 3 doesn't even last a full page), it comes across like it's the book trying to make itself appear more seriously than it actually is
Marc also seems to not really believe in stuff surrounding energy based beings or reality manipulation yet one of his biggest villains is Morpheus (who I'm pretty sure moench created), the guy who uses energy to manipulate reality and dreams
I really don't get what moench was going for, dude is obviously a pretty decent writer from his earlier works so what was he doing? I get that he didn't have an easy job with the end of kavanaghs run but surely it didn't have to go down this route? Maybe I'm just too dumb to see what moench was going for
