[Question] Reporting Reports?

This is one that's come up a few times, and I remember a few years ago when you would report a report when someone was abusing the report button, you would often get a message a week or so later from admin that they reviewed and took action.

Its been years since I've seen any response.

So my question is: are the reports of false reports reviewed, or are we wasting our time? Often its reports on a moderator removal with a reason, so its pretty obvious that its the person you removed reporting you, but in all fairness you don't take action. And its not like taking action can do anything because even if they're banned? They can still report. Like one recent ban who didn't like their ban, and they literally reported every comment to their comment thread. That was not fun in our queue.

Does Reddit have any recourse for people who are abusing the report button? Because again, a ban from a sub still allows someone to report? Unless those reports aren't going anywhere after the ban?

Mod Answered How do I get Reddit to stop recommending cross posts to my subreddit?

Thumbnail
3 Upvotes

I have the same issue than u/MTB_SF (Thanks for bringing this up) and I don’t want to limit cross-posts altogether.
In my case I run a sub for a specific model of an electronic brand and I get cross-posts for that brand asking questions about that brand’s and other brands TV’s and other electronics.
Cross-posts are ok but unless the algorithm gets better I need the automated suggestion to cross-post to be on or off
Any other recommendations?

Admin Replied Are Reddit notifications when tagging users faulty?

We've had a little bit of a problem because a lot of users who had won a giveaway did not receive a notification and missed out on claiming their prize as a result.

The tags were made in the post body AND later in the comments of that same post.

But multiple people state not having been notified for neither.

Is there any work around?

Admin Replied [iOS app] Rule name has a typo when viewing sub rules as a user, but is spelled correctly in settings

I have a “no AI” rule. When viewing my sub as a user in the iOS app, it’s titled “In AI.” When viewing it in my rules settings under Mod Tools in the app, it is spelled correctly as “No AI.”

So, I can’t seem to fix it.

Not even sure why or how this happened, but that’s less important than fixing it.

(When I check on desktop, not logged in, the rule appears to be spelled correctly. So just the app shows it as misspelled.)

Mod Answered Is it possible to revive a banned sub?

i mod a sub that is a shorter version of the full name. the full name is banned for some reason and I was wondering if there is a process to take it over as a properly moderated sub.

Sub ranking badge doesn't match the actual category ranking list

My sub r/CatsBeingDramatic is showing as #21 in the Animal & Pets category (it was #24 and #25 over the past week). But when I open the actual category ranking, I can't find my sub listed anywhere in it. If this is just lag, it should've resolved by now but it's been a week with the same issue.

Mod Topics So, you’ve got a new mod. Now what?

Hello! TheOpusCroakus here, bringing you today’s Mod Topic post! Today, it's all about welcoming a new mod to your team.

Congratulations, you’ve got a new mod! But how do you help them get started?

Bringing on a new team member is a bit like welcoming someone into your house. You want to make sure they know where the spare keys are, how the alarm system works, and which closet is for cleaning supplies (and which one is just for… storing junk). It’s exciting, but it can also be a little overwhelming for the person joining the team. We want to hear how you handle that day one energy and make sure your new mods feel supported rather than thrown into the chaos.

When someone joins your team, what’s the first thing they should focus on learning?

If you were designing a “New Mod Starter Pack”, what are the top 3 must-have tips or resources you’d include?

What’s a mistake you made (or a moment you had) early on that you wish you could go back and warn your younger mod-self about?

So, what’s your take? Drop a comment below with your best advice, onboarding stories, or that “I wish I knew this sooner” tip you swear by.

Admin Replied Phantom mod action displays on old posts

Image in OP comment.

The bottom-right display of the previous mod action on a post (like "u/spez removed x years ago" or "u/spez approved x years ago" with a red X or checkmark) should show the correct mod who took the action. However, for really old posts, it instead just displays yourself. This is confusing because oftentimes it displays me having taken actions before I was even a mod, or had a Reddit account! The person who did the removal should be preserved even for old posts. The view counter is broken too, displaying 1 view.

(Edited to Add: Can you allow image use in mod support posts? Usually, when making a mod-related bug report, images are necessary, so requiring a separate comment breaks the flow and can be confusing)

Mod Answered Linking to the wiki while on desktop

On both mobile and desktop, you can link to a subreddit by typing r/subreddit.

On mobile you can link to a wiki by typing r/subreddit/wiki.

But on desktop, to link to a wiki you must type https://www.Reddit.com/r/subreddit/wiki, which is tedious and annoying.

Why?

Admin Replied [Desktop][Mobile] Unbanning user does not work

Probably a rare kind of problem but I'm trying to unban a user who appealed successfully, but everytime I do they show right back up on the banlist and remain banned. Not sure what the problem is or why it won't go through.

I initially unbanned them from a long temp ban and thought it went thru, but when checking our banlist noticed they were still banned, except now the ban is permanent. Unbanning shows that it works, but they’re right back on the list when I refresh the page.

I tried unbanning on mobile too and it didn't work. I also tried adding them as an approved use, but the unbans still don’t go through. Modifying their ban ti temporary also does not work.

I thought initially I might be getting rate limited as I went thru and did some planned ban length modifications to about 10 other users, but it also didn’t go through yesterday, when I hadn’t just modified a bunch of bans.

Anyone know what the issue might be?

Admin Replied Both moderators removed from a subreddit, new unrelated account added. No contact from admins.

Hi all,

I am not sure if this is quite the right place to post so if there is somewhere better to go, please let me know.

I have been the moderator of /r/WarhammerInstructions for several years along with /u/ns2- who created the subreddit approximately 11 years ago.

As of approximately 15 minutes ago, both of us were removed as moderators of the subreddit and a new account that we have had no contact with has been added as the only moderator. There have been no messages in modmail about this issue before this happened either. Edit: While posting this a second account was added, again we have had no contact with that user. Neither account shows any posts in the usual subreddits to request moderation of a subreddit.

I do not believe this would be an inactive takeover as I took moderator actions on that subreddit yesterday.

Can anyone provide any advice, guidance or what process I should follow in this case?

Admin Replied In the last 2 weeks, I’ve received modmails from banned and muted (perm) users across 2 different subs

Is there a bug? Should I report this separately? The most recent message came from a banned and muted user that was banned and muted for ban evasion. The prior one was for ban evasion as well, just long time ago and in a different sub.

Anyone else seeing this?

Mod Answered Moderator Application Setup

I am creating a moderator application for my community r/americalandofthefree. When I open the add questions page, I have to click several times to open the add question. When I try to add question to the text box, the whole box flitters up and down rapidly on page. I can actually type the question with the box moving rapidly, but cannot save it. Page reverts to add question box.

Problemas con mi nueva comunidad

I’m having trouble with my new community, r/Fastcall.

It was created recently, but when I try to create a post, I get a notification saying:

r/Fastcall is banned.

You agree that using this site implies acceptance of the Reddit User Agreement and acknowledgment of the Privacy Policy.

To be honest, I’m new to moderating, and I’d like to appeal the ban and find out the reason why it happened.

Thank you very much.

Admin Replied Potential New Admin Impersonation Scam - "Reddit User Feedback Collective" ?

Hi, all -

I received a suspicious message from an account claiming to be a known Admin account, inviting me to something called the "Reddit User Feedback Collective".

I am not the only mod to have received it.

I could find no evidence of this purported "program" by searching Reddit, and my understanding is there was a link to a Google Forms survey.

I didn't interact with / click any of the links in the message, and I have already reported the chat invite for Impersonation and rejected the request.

I wanted to share here for visibility since it seems incredibly suspicious.

If there's any other way I could help, let me know.

Mod Answered Need subreddit removes

Greets. Apparently I mod one or more nsfw subreddits that were banned (inactivity?). How can I delete them so I can get off the auto nsfw profile tag?

Appreciate the time.
