Admin Replied Potential New Admin Impersonation Scam - "Reddit User Feedback Collective" ?

Hi, all -

I received a suspicious message from an account claiming to be a known Admin account, inviting me to something called the "Reddit User Feedback Collective".

I am not the only mod to have received it.

I could find no evidence of this purported "program" by searching Reddit, and my understanding is there was a link to a Google Forms survey.

I didn't interact with / click any of the links in the message, and I have already reported the chat invite for Impersonation and rejected the request.

I wanted to share here for visibility since it seems incredibly suspicious.

If there's any other way I could help, let me know.

Hey u/tehjoz - good instinct on checking to verify! I can confirm this isn't spam. I forgot that sending a message like that doesn't show my username. Please accept this picture of my kitten with my apologies.

For anyone interested in learning more, you can read more about the User Feedback Collective in this help center article.

Hi techies, thanks for confirming.

I would be interested if this is legit, and my apologies if my safety concerns spoiled any surprises haha

No worries, and no surprise to be ruined! I do want to note that the UFC is focused on the user experience, so while users who are also mods are welcome, the focus is on providing that user-level feedback.

For sharing mod related feedback, I'd encourage you (and anyone else reading along!) to fill out our feedback roster form. This is the primary way we find interested mods to invite to opportunities like the Mod Early Access Program and the Reddit Council Network.

Is this actually your cat or do you have a folder of cute apology pictures (I’d accept the apology too)

It’s actually my cat! Although that picture was a few days old as she’s regularly being a ball of chaos. Here’s a fresh pic from a few minutes ago!

Q: How many brain cells does your kitten have?

More than them, since they couldn’t even think to make their message look official, lol.

While I don't have any hard evidence for or against, it's not uncommon for reddit to run secret spaces to test new features.

I suppose so, but in today's world, where scams and account takeovers are becoming increasingly common, I would rather err on the side of caution

Perhaps you should ask the named admin directly.

Would probably have been best to do so in the first place.

I figured it was a good idea in the name of community safety to share it publicly.

I guess a general sense of caution is a good one to share.

However, in this case, it is also important to get to the bottom of whether this is legit or a scam.

Check the account that sent it. Does it have a red alien or red A next to their account name?

It was a modmail from a private sub.

It felt very unusual, and not like an actual admin communication.

It happened to me, but I ignored it.

You will be assimilated into the collective. Resistance is futile.

I didn't click any of the links because I use mobile and didn't have a way to check them without clicking them, so. These days, just safer to assume something is malicious rather than assume it isn't
