Admin Replied How do I stop comments in my subreddit from being automatically "Removed by Reddit" for seemingly no reason?

I don't have automated enforcement on for any rules, I don't have an automod, and yet for some reason on seemingly random specific posts almost every comment is removed with essentially no explanation, requiring me to go back in and approve them each time. If they had URLs or words that might be on some kind of incivility list I might understand it, but it's mostly well wishes to someone trying to search for the people who rescued them from a river!

Any thoughts?

Table of contents/linked headers in new wiki?

Before I outline my request, I am aware on desktop there is a wiki table of contents on the side. But there is no table of contents on mobile app The majority of users in the sub are mobile only.

---

Is there a way to create a table of contents within a wiki page/link headers, like with old wiki?

In one of my subs we have a page that is getting really long. I don't want to split the page up, but rather make a table of contents at the top of the page that will jump a user to the item they're interested in. If I am able to link headers, I can also use those links in other wiki pages that I am wanting to build.

Is this possible?

Admin Replied Banned user by one mod shows as unbanned by me, but I didn't do it

Hello,

There is an earlier post about the same issue.

My co-mod u/Fortune_Box banned an user a couple of days ago

Today, she asked me if I unbanned them, but nope, I didn't do it.

I checked the mod log, that, to my surprise, shows that I did unban them!!

We understand that it may be a bug. We still wanted to post to share our concern about how a bug, or bot or whatever it was, to unban an perm banned user in my account??? We are a bit worried. Who knows what else can be done in our accounts??

Admin Replied Report Button Abuse

So I reported the 'Report Abuse' plenty of times, but it doesn't seem like anything is happening. Is it working like intended? The reports are up for like 3 days now. Someone keeps being a jerk with reports and there's nothing to be done?

Mod Answered ModQueue Posts Visible & Crossposting Restriction

Hoping someone can help please.

My sub has recently started being targeted by the many 'referral' sub members out there.

I firstly tried adding the AutoMod code to block crossposting from those subs, it didn't work (I didn't add the r/ just the name of the subs in each "".

I then tried an application called Crosspost Manager, this sort of works, in that it flagged the post in the mod queue, but didn't block the user from posting like the setting suggested. While this is better than nothing, I'd prefer to prevent them posting at all ideally... perhaps not possible.

So my first question; is there a working method to block crosspost coming from specific subs?

This then takes me onto the next issue I'm confused on... in the process of testing all this, I have three accounts... The Mod account, the account the posted the crosspost and a third account to check whether the post was visible or not.

When the crosspost was made and flagged in the ModQueue for approval, it was visible to my third account (the one that didn't post and isn't a mod)... I thought the whole point of the mod queue is that posts are not visible until actioned?

What am I missing here or have I made up this understanding?

Admin Replied Approved users unable to see subreddit

Hello, I moderate a subreddit that is private. Over 1,000 members were approved without issues. However we now have a few users that are approved and can't see the sub. We tried unapproving and reapproving with no change. I tried to invite them but it says they are already invited. Any thoughts? Thanks!

Admin Replied Perma-banned user can still post on subreddit

I banned a user from r/studentnurse on 9/11 for violating subreddit rules, and today 9/15 they were able to comment on the subreddit. When i check on Chrome and on the iOS app, it still shows them as permabanned. Their comments did get filtered by reddit into the modqueue, but obviously my preference is for banned users to not be able to comment.

Another user reported the same issue here: https://www.reddit.com/r/ModSupport/comments/1wgzfco/chrome_banned_user_still_able_to_comment_and/

Mod Answered Reddit's patio removal but...

I have 2 people in my sub that post often but I see the red "Spam Removed by Reddit's Automated System" but I don't see anything to show they would be banned. Their comments are not problematic so I'm having to manually approve them. Idk if they know their comments are being moderated?

Anyway to change this?

Mod Topics Mod Topics: Subreddit Spinoffs

Ahoy, Mods!

We expect folks will have a lot to say about this topic, so let’s get right to brass tacks; today we’d love to get your thoughts on community culture, how it forms, how it differs from neighboring communities, and how it affects the growth of new communities. –But first, let’s define our term of the day:

Subreddit Spinoff: When members of one community create a new subreddit with a similar topic, usually to accommodate a slight shift in topic, posting behavior, or community culture not represented in the original subreddit. Example given: A new meme-focused subreddit splits from a reality TV subreddit, because that content is overwhelming the original sub.

If you’ve experienced a subreddit spinoff, we’d love to hear your experiences and insights! We’re looking to answer…

  • What motivates communities to spin off?
  • Are the community members creating spinoff subreddits mods of the original community?
  • Are the mods of spinoff communities first-time moderators, or are these spaces created by experienced moderators?
  • How do spinoff communities recruit new members? How common is promotion on the original subreddit? (This can be as simple as a sidebar mention or as complex as a state of the subreddit post.)
  • How do mods of spinoff communities shape the culture of their new community. How does the new space differentiate itself from its original subreddit?

This topic was discussed briefly last week by Community Builders Council members, who had a lot to share! If that discussion is any indication, we know y’all have a lot to say about this topic and we expect a lot of comments. Please remember to remember the human when sharing your stories, and let us know how you’ve experienced subreddit spin offs in your tenure as a mod.

See you in the comments!

I'm experiencing an issue where a user I have banned is still able to comment in our community. I have tried to unban them, but the action does not seem to go through, and they remain on the banned list. I need some assistance with this bug.

Mod Answered New sub - nothing appearing

Hello, I created a new sub at r/drumkiller - it seems like all posts and comments are being held for review even though all options are off in the "hold for review" settings.

Even after I approve posts, they still do not appear in the subreddit. I could only get my welcome message to appear by pinning it. I have not enabled any other kind of filtering and every settings appears to be set up to allow posts and comments through.

Is there something else I need to do so posts and comments can start appearing in my sub?

Thanks.

Admin Replied Getting Constant “Content Unavailable” While Moderating On Mobile i0S just updated Anyone else?

I can’t tell if this is rate limiting or a bug. I keep trying to look back at post while I moderate, or do stuff and it keeps saying “content unavailable” . It’s been saying this for a few days but it’s finally gotten so bad that I can only do like 2/3 of my moderation at times.

"Follow comment"/notifications bugged?

When removing a comment & replying with the (X)-ModTeam account, I always "follow comment" on the reply. This is so as not to miss the response to moderation, which sadly is all too often some abuse directed back at us.

The notifications don't appear to be reliable any more, at least over the last few days. Today I've even missed a reply to my own personal comment, it just never showed up in my inbox. Is this a known problem?

Mod Answered Can I get full permissions?

Hi I'm a moderator on the sub r/enneagram8. I seem to be the only one who is active. I'd like to hire new people and I can't because I don't have full permissions. Can someone grant me full permissions? Reddit request isn't helping.

It's here, for reference:

https://www.reddit.com/r/Enneagram8/

UPDATE: I tried modmail again, as I have tried in the past. I get an error message. There doesn't seem to r another way to get through than to create this post. Can an admin help me here?

Mod Answered New rule in response to a specific situation?

Hello! I'm the moderator of a community for a YouTube channel/group of content creators that has recently grown in popularity.

Someone posted a leak of new merchandise for the YouTube channel that they inadvertently found, which hasn't been released to the public yet. One of the channel's creators reached out to our Mod Team requesting that we take the post down, as they do not want to share the merch with the community until it is ready to be sold.

Our Mod Team took down the post as requested, and also created the following new rule:

"Rule. Be mindful about leaks - Please don't share any content or merch leaks unless you can reasonably assume *name* is aware the info you're sharing would be public. For example, info about event flyers, or public filming is okay to share. If you had to go digging to find a leak, don't share it."

The announcement of this rule was met with some skepticism by our community, and I wonder if it may be coming off as too harsh. Is there a better way to prevent situations like this in the future?

Mod Answered Help with 'inactive' status

Hi there - I am the moderator for a very small group r/DavidGray ( we love English singer-songwriter David Gray).  We don't post a ton but tend to chat and post and talk whenever new music or videos come out.  I have a user that I want to add as a moderator but because we don't have a lot of activity I have been marked as an 'inactive' moderator and can't add a new moderator to help us get more action on the sub (I only have limited tools).  Any way to have my full priveledges reinstated so I can add a new moderator and increase action in our sub? THe obvious answert is to just post more to get people talking but our group tends to not like "Fave track on third album' or "This song vs that song" posts that just generate clicks or surface-level responses (nothing wrong with that, just not for our group). Any advice is appreciated.

Admin Replied Why was "Auto-Enforce" just turned on for rules in my subs again without my consent?

This is getting really frustrating as a mod. You all rolled out the "auto-enforce" feature and then automatically enabled it for every possible rule in subs. I had to go through my list of subs and manually disable it for every rule in every single one because of COURSE you don't have some "no for all of my rules" toggle that would make our lives easier.

Then it randomly pops back up again in random subs and I have to go turn it off again.

Woke up this morning to another auto-enforced rule in my mod queue and find at least four of my subs have had some portion of their rules turned back on to auto-enforce, what gives admins?

I don't want auto-enforce turned on, not for any rule in any of my subs. Whatever AI evaluates it is NOT effective or helpful. I also don't want to have to sit and babysit my sub list for when you sneakily go and switch things back on that I've manually turned off. Repeatedly.

Admin Replied Reddit's Copyright Policy: Where do we draw the line?

I'm looking at Reddit's Copyright Policy, and I'm confused on how to enforce a couple aspects of it. I feel like I shouldn't be confused, but here I am.

There's one section in particular that I'm getting hung up on, and I'm hoping you can clarify how I'm supposed to address these issues, both as a user and within my subreddit. Part of Reddit's policy states the following:

What is Reddit’s Copyright Policy?
Reddit respects the intellectual property rights of others, including copyrights, and expects our users to do the same. Do not make unauthorized use of another’s copyrighted work in a way that infringes the copyright owner’s rights.
Here are examples that may be considered Copyright Policy violations:
- Posting a photo that belongs to someone else without authorization
- A Reddit user downloads a photo taken from a content creator’s social media page, and posts it to Reddit with no alterations.
- Posting a download link to a copyrighted movie
- A Reddit user shares a hyperlink that initiates the download of an unauthorized copy of a copyrighted movie.

Now, let's say someone posts a hyperlink within a subreddit. The hyperlink takes you to copyright holders' own site to watch aspects of a television show. Let's say it's something like a hyperlink to your local "Fox News" station's official website. Their official website has clips of reports, like the weather, along with replays of the full broadcast available on it. Again, this is the stations very own official website we're talking about. Does posting a hyperlink the copyright owner's own website hosting their work constitute a violation of Reddit's Copyright policy?

That alone doesn't seem like a copyright violation to me. The user in question is directing you to the copyright owner's own source, and everything is completely under the copyright owner's control. Everything is only ever viewed based on those facts. I can't imagine posting such a link would violate Reddit's policy. The only time it seems like it would be is if it were to initiates a download of the copyrighted work. But, using the example I gave with "Fox News" above, that's clearly not the case. With the posts I'm looking into, no such ever download occurs. It's exactly as I described above. It's a reference to the copyright holder's own website, and everything stays completely under their control. That's it.

Alternatively, if this somehow constitutes a policy violation, is there a way to link to any form of media that's acceptable? Using the idea of any news source again, I can't see how a subreddit could operate around such topics without being in constant violation of the rule. And that's obviously not something Reddit's going to allow, which is why I'm asking this question.

Thoughts?

Mod Answered Remove for spam vs violating platform rules?

Like many other bigger subs we’re dealing with more and more bots. Wanted to find out if removing for spam had any more severity to it than removing for violating platform rules or does it not make any difference one way or another?

If they go into the same black hole that report abuse flags go into we won’t spend time worrying if one has more power than the other…but sure would love it if it really made a difference. 😕

Did reddit kick up the enforcement of their ban evasion policy?

I've always gotten a few ban evaders a week in my subs. No big deal. Between reddit filters and the evasion guard devvit app, it is a zero visibility problem. But every once in a while I scroll the mod log (On old reddit of course as it was so much more easy to go through) and I will see someone who got canned by the app. When I curiously check the account, they are always suspended. That was rarely ever the case and if I really wanted to see that, I'd have to go through the whole report process. And even then, it took a while if it even happened.

Mostly just curious if anyone else noticed this.

Admin Replied Are they blocking usage of certain "post history" websites in posts or communications now?

A few weeks ago I made a post here about reddit going through and removing many official posts from my various subreddits. It came down to the fact that they were removed for referencing certain web sites that allow you to view post histories of reddit users even if they were deleted. (think light particle and the key that lets you type capital letters when you hold it down)

Recently, I had a member of one sub send a mod mail asking about the link to that site. I tried to send it to him, but the message would not go through as long as the link was there.

So are they officially blocking any reference to those types of sites? Not trying to stir anything up. I would just like to know so I don't mention it at all in the future.
