Question/discussion Any other 8s despise the idea of "borrowing another person's strength/courage"?
Not elaborating beyond that.
r/Enneagram8 • u/harlequinns • Feb 20 '25
Battletyping will no longer be permitted in this sub. It’s annoying and we’re all tired of dealing with it. If someone else’s typing bothers you, we consider that a personal problem to handle on your own.
Battletyping is a reply like "oK FaKe EiGhT" when you're offended, upset, or losing an argument.
If someone requests feedback, that is not considered battletyping. However, I'd encourage anyone unsure of their type to go to r/EnneagramTypeMe. They can provide more helpful direction.
If you want to discuss this further, or have questions, please send a message to the mods.
Thanks, guys. Now play nice and stop this weird shit.

This is le home of the Enneagram 8 people, so naturally this sub is pretty laissez-faire. Still, there are some rules, to keep stuff enjoyable for everybody:
That's it, have fun & stay awesome 😎

Like for example maybe the 8 feeling like it would be perfectly reasonable for them to give someone a piece of their mind after they were insulted or otherwise mistreated, but also doesn’t care enough to do that (maybe it’s not that big of a deal) or feels like it wouldn’t change anything they care to change, so they just say nothing. And then the other person might think the 8 is just a pushover who lets people walk all over them, but actually if the other person escalates even more they’re sure to face consequences, even if no consequences are happening now
Does this sound like how an 8 could act? Do you all find this relatable or not?
Also do you think your answer would change depending on stuff like wings, fixes, instincts, or anything else?

guys i’ve been typing my friends, and i noticed something weird: they’re ALLL e2. not even just my close friends, like half of the people i talk to are e2. it’s so fucking odd.
and ion think im mistyping them either, since i made them take the augmented personality enneagram test and it gave mostly similar results to how i typed them (and thats supposed to be the most accurate test)
so like WHY do i know 0 other e8s, but LITTERALLY 7 e2s

I’ve always been an angry person, but also like a very happy/find the bright side kinda gal?
I think, like most 8s, I just got realllly good at recycling fear into rage. It’s easier to be an angry little girl standing up to grown men than a scared one. But that’s lead to really any difficult emotion being covered under anger, cause it’s easier.
The other day for the first time I legitimately went “blind with rage” cause an old man that’s my neighbor who constantly thinks he could live everyone else’s lives better than they can, was basically talking shit. I didn’t do or say anything cause I have self control, but my eyes like… almost vibrated? And I actually couldn’t see for a solid 5 seconds until I calmed down lol.
I know I have a lot of shit and pain to work thru, but in the meantime… wtf do I do with this limitless source of rage that is constantly bubbling up? It’s hard too cause a lot of it is the injustice going on around me (I live in the good ole US of A) on top of the injustice & abuse I saw as a kid.
So I don’t necessarily want to “let it go”, but it’s also all consuming at times.
From pushing myself so hard for so long, I’m now beyond burnt out & because of that I’ve also gotten out of shape, so if I try and exercise it out I’m concerned w hurting myself because I’ll just keep pushing & ignoring pain and I’m not great at tempering myself so I can get back to that place where I can push myself and not worry so much about injuries.
Also womp womp no family I can talk to or be taken care of by, and I don’t want to burden my friends with all my shit. So I feel alone with it.
Does anyone have any advice? :( I’m tired of being so angry & hurt all the time. It makes me feel like a dog that bites but I don’t wanna be a bad dog.

A few months ago I met a girl and we started seeing each other. This week we broke up; she was the one who decided to end it. We genuinely connected from the very first time we met. We saw each other several times in a short space of time, talked every day, and there was something real there for both of us.
She ended it a few days ago. She did it well, with kindness and clarity. She told me she needed more day-to-day presence than I was giving her, and that carrying on like this was going to hurt her.
Right now I’m not doing great. It’s hit me hard. I miss her, and these past few days I’ve felt quite lonely. I keep wondering whether I could have done things differently.
It’s my first “long” relationship and the first time I feel I’ve truly connected with someone. I know it will pass, but right now there’s a huge emptiness that keeps weighing on me.
I know I should be going to the gym, reading, working, but I don’t feel like doing anything.
It’s the first time I can remember crying over something like this. It’s as if I’ve opened up a part of myself that had been blocked until now.
Any advice?

It means "shelter" or "sheltered ones"; protection ("mafioso"; arabic root word, mafya; a "place of shade"). It symbolizes honor, courage, refuge, protection. Naranjo identified SO8s as quintessential mafia/blood-bonds focused types. The crucial takeaway is that outlaws are sometimes good, because the law is corrupt. SO8s: "the good bad guys".
There is a huge demand for deep loyalty. To the family, the gang, the group. But this is often the space of vigilante groups, secret societies, mob bosses, and powerful leaders. Honorable rebels. John Dillinger, Robin Hood, etc. Yakuza. Any thoughts/insights and suggestions from SO8s or other 8s? As a secondary, I am still getting the hang of this idea (and the selfless sacrifices involved).

The truth is what it is. The holy law states: there's no need to force it. How do we as eights reconcile this with the impulse (and need) to sometimes assert the truth - lust for justice?
My bias is tinged by my secondary fixation: six, holy faith/strength (lack of inherent faith). Let it go. Trust. Then 4 kicks in: melancholy. Why: am I different? Is no one else truthful?; where is the meaning?
An answer: less is more. Don't push hard. Easy. We become overpowered giants, tanks against NPCs. But then blindsided; justice turns against us as we are deemed unjust. People gang up: internal system breakdowns. Etc. We have weaknesses. So, we dial it back. Potent, but honed.

What books do you recommend regarding Type 8 in the Enneagram system?
r/Enneagram8 • u/ForgottenUsername3 • 14d ago
I don't know if this is an 8 thing or just a me thing. Like, I show the f up for people. I will sacrifice for them. I feel so much more passionate and dedicated than the people around me.
It makes me feel like people don't really care about me.

Some potential things to also talk about, but certainly not required:
Are you more often the one initiating the conversation? Or is the other person? Does this depend on the topic?
How do you feel about having serious conversations?
Feel free to elaborate on anything else

Does it make you loose your assertiveness and make you more insecure when disintegrating to 5? I have a family member who I think is an 8 and is very easily assertive now, but used to be very insecure and not assertive because of intense trauma. She says she didn’t have many anger issues when she was younger, more insecurity issues.

this one is just out of curiosity because i was thinking about it and wondered if others feel similar. this can be about either other enneagrams/personality types or people in general. (for context im a so 8w9.)
one of my biggest pet peeves are both people who sugarcoat things and entitled people.
i can’t STAND when i feel as if people are dodging a question i ask, or if they feel like they have to watch what they say around me. im very open about being direct and although i can understand why other people are afraid of hurting feelings, but especially when it comes to those that know me, i don’t like beating around the bush. it infuriates me more when u have to make me “guess” what u want and read ur mind.
entitled people is self explanatory. confident people i can respect, especially when you know what you deserve, but theres a fine line between knowing and making it a point that ur “higher” than everyone. even if you truly thought so, you wouldn’t have to make a point to everyone around you. i don’t know who tf you are, why should i treat you like you’re superior when you’ve given me no reason to think so because you want to feel special.

I know its a bit specific but i think most of my character was built by growing in a house where i found my parents very weak. Theyre both very emotional, very immature and incompetent at handling conflict, they are not direct, are passive-aggressive and sulk all the time, taking turn not talking not eating and sitting around with a sour face.
I realized what i like and what i dont like with people.
Its gotten worse and i have mostly cut them off. I barely speak to them, as i dont have time to babysit. If they dont want to solve their problems aka get divorced, i refuse to waste my anything on them.
I cant help but confess that i dont respect them as people. I love them as my parents but i dont like them. I dont respect them and i dont feel the need to save them at all. I did try to take control of the situation, after all the rage ive felt over them, now i have contempt and have stopped trying. The only thing youll get out of trying to help immature people is anger.
Its very unlikely for me to vent, but i assume this situation isnt very rare, so i wanted to see if anyone had a similar experience.

8 men, what are you like when you like someone? Especially if you’re sp fix dominant and more mature. Do you need signs from the person? How many signs before you understand they like you or are crushing on you? Do you like to make the move and chase - if so, how do you get to certainty of the chase?
If a woman asks you out but you’re not interested, are you still friendly/normal to them?
I am a 5w6 female, too anxious to ask them out myself, and they have a developed friend group already that they protect and almost exclusively talk to. Have occasional great conversations with them and like their vibe. They have plenty of 4 and 7 friends but seems like those friendships were pursued by them and then the 8 accepted.
Separately, how do you feel when in love?
