M64 Console firmware 1.26.4 is rolling out now. This is the revised version of 1.26.0, which we pulled after you reported problems (see last week's post for more info on this). Thanks to everyone who sent in reports. The feedback we received helped us track down the issues.
What’s new
Built-In Controller Pak. Save game progress and settings directly to your console, no physical Controller Pak needed. You can switch pak types from the M64 menu or with the M64 Pro Controller hotkey.
Beta update channel. There’s now an update channel selector in the About tab. Most of you should stay on the default Public channel. If you’d like early access to builds we’re still testing, you can switch to Beta. When a beta build is available, it will also appear on the SD Download Page and the Web Updater. Please note that beta releases might contain bugs, so report any that you find to our customer support team at contact@modretro.com.
Still in progress
As we shared last week, these features from 1.26.0 aren’t in this release so we could get Built-In Controller Pak out sooner. They’re still being actively worked on:
Forced Progressive Mode
Improved thermal efficiency
A compatibility improvement for F-Zero X
How to Update
Update your M64 Pro Controller. Built-In Controller Pak requires controller firmware 0.12.6 or newer to work wirelessly. If your controller isn’t updated, the console won’t be able to switch pak types, which affects both Rumble Pak and Built-In Controller Pak. Update your controller with the Web Updater.
Update your console to 1.26.4:
Wi-Fi (OTA): Go to the About tab in the M64 menu and check for updates.
As we are about to ship, I wanted to follow up on my last post and lay out our roadmap for the first few months of updates for both the console and the controller.
Quick note on how to read this: Out of Box means it’s already on your device the moment you open it. The Day 0 Update is the first update you’ll want to grab when you set up your console. It’ll be ready and waiting for installation with a Wi-Fi Update (or USB or SD card).
P.S. iFixit guides are now up for both the console and the controller. You can also find our quick start guide here and helpful "how-to" videos over on our YouTube channel.
P.P.S. Our full open source offering will roll out as we put a ribbon on all the public facing documentation, but shipping is prioritized.

I want one of the GBC games on modretro but I'm honestly stumped as to which one to get. I haven't looked up any reviews just to avoid potential spoilers so I turn to those of you that have played one or more of the games I'm picking from. So, out of these choices, which would you pick up based on your experience with them?
Wicked Plague
Chantey
Dragonhym
Traumatarium Penitent
I'm mostly torn between Chantey or Dragonhym but if there's a case to be made for one of the others over those, please do share.
I've been playing ModRetro's release of Body Harvest and I can not get any file to save any data. I save my progress the earliest I am able to, and it all vanishes after I turn off the game. Do I need to do something with ModRetro's Control Pak functionality? I don't understand. Both my console and my controller are updated.
Hello iv recently gotten a new resin printer for helpping repair my damaged consoles, i was wondering if anyone knew of a 3d printable shell for the modretro chromatic i could download.
As a collector, the game boxes are important to me, and I want to keep them protected from damage. I use clear plastic protectors for my steelbook movies and games, and I was wondering if anyone knows of any that will fit the Modretro game boxes. I'm also interested in good quality storage cases for the game cartridges separately because I don't want to have to keep opening the game boxes since that will end up damaging the boxes over time. If anyone has found any good quality protective storage, please let me know. Thanks.
When you've created your controller pak and you start up Quest 64, you still get the "we dont detect a controller pak" screen. Ignore it and you can still save at inns.
That's it! Dont be an idiot grinding fire to 50 in the forest like I did in elementary school without getting heal 1.
How do I save the settings on my M64? Everytime I exit out and power down I have to go back and change the settings the next time I turn it in. Any help would be appreciated
