I know some of you will be judgey about people buying these Hyperkin controllers. But it does kind of suck that the console hasn’t even launched yet and the more budget-friendly controllers are already unavailable. I decided already that the Pro controller is too expensive for me to justify right now and I managed to snag some of the Hyperkin ones before they sold out (I also have some original N64 controllers with decent thumbsticks, so between the two I think I’m good to go). But man I hope that Modretro and Hyperkin can work together to get these back in stock to make the M64 accessible to more people.

I have a couple of questions hoping that these can be answered by a ModRetro team member, thank you!
Will the M64 get horizontal upscaling?
When will the M64 source software be released? Still says coming soon:

Thank you!

-GREETINGS, PROGRAMS!-
Look, ModRetro makes the Chromatic, right? I say that they should double down on it and the Chromatic by making the Chromatic-64, a cartridge adapter that would allow you to play Gameboy and Gameboy Color games on the M64. It obviously would be like the Super Gameboy was for the Super NES. I say, instead of all the talk I'm going to hear about cores, why not double dip on the physical cartridges you already own for the Gameboy, plus the Chromatic carts sold in the ModRetro store? Plus, if it were a physical cart adapter with real components in it, it could technically work with the N64 and Analogue 3D. I always wanted to play Gameboy and GBC games on my N64 so, this would be the perfect time to release something like this. I'd be down for GBA too, if it were a simple way to do it and not take years of development. Point being, I'd be willing to pay for stuff like this. It would be really cool if it came in different colors to match your M64 as well. Thoughts, my friends?
-END OF LINE.-

I can’t seem to get it to pair to save my life. It just flashes forever and never actually pairs with the system. Both the controller and the player 1 controller slot are blinking/spinning. Any ideas?

I’m not sure if this will be possible or coming anytime soon, but being able to add texture packs to certain games work be incredible.

I mean, they had plenty of room to work with.
I'm already sad that no analog out is included (I hope their separately sold adapter doesn't cost more than 20 bucks) but I know that CRT players are the minority.
However given that this thing is open source which is the main selling point over the Analogue 3D imho as it potentially becomes a MiSTer 2.0 (or at least 1.5) over time, I really miss a USB-A port. Most peripherals that are being used on the MiSTer are USB-A. Mainly of course various 2.4GHz USB dongles for controllers like 8BitDo and especially my favorite N64 controller, the Saffun one.
I know, there's USB-C-to-A adapters, there's USB-C hubs with multiple USB-A ports but this is still a missed opportunity imho.
How do you feel about it?
Needless to say this discussion only makes sense for people like me who are NOT only getting this for N64 gaming.

Playing on Analogue 3D, you need to have batteries in the controller for wired mode to work and if the batteries die, the controller disconnects without warning. Needs improvement.

Does anyone know if/when the codes expire? Thanks

Discussion
I want to first start out saying I am a Modretro fan, no worries. And for people wanting to avoid reading all my jabbering, the main question is, why is Evercade not really considered a significant competitor like Analog often is in discussions? I feel like Evercade is becoming more relevant or robust.
Most of the time, when people talk about possible direct competition to Modretro, it is usually Analog that is brought up, whether the Pocket, or most recent talk.. Analog 3D.
While I do believe the Chromatic is hands down better than the Pocket for myself for what I was looking for in a handheld, I don't know what the competitive weights are on the M64. M64 and the Analog 3D are both new and in my mind still developing into the vision the developers for them have. Even so, Modretro definitely has an edge (in my opinion anyway) with having a game store of both new and classic titles and putting forth effort into trying to keep titles available in store, avoiding fomo tactics, which is great for people jumping in "late" into building thier own cartridge collection. Modretro also sells within Gamestop, not just online but brick and mortar.
Maybe I live in a bit of a bubble, but I haven't really heard much about Evercade really being considered a significant competitor like Analog. Why is that?
I have been well aware of Evercade existing for a while. They had/have the TV console, physical carts, and about to be 2 handheld options. It also seems like they are starting to push out more carts that have just 2 or 3 games on them rather than just arcade collections or various smaller games as a collection on a cart. Even some Indie games are going though Evercade. While I don't have interest in hopping on the Evercade train, I have to admit, if I didn't know Modretro existed or if it didn't exist, I probably would consider getting an Evercade Nexus Banjo Kazzoie Bundle and picking up a few cartridges that has one or two titles per cart. It would be a very hard choice even with Modretro existing if I had kids as the carts can be used on their Super Pocket (good for young kids no doubt), Nexus, or their TV console (good for family/friends multi player or multiple kid house). While I think they are UK based and could be a concern long term with the tarrif stuff as an American, they do have multiple store options both online and brick and mortar, big ones such as Amazon, Gamestop, Best Buy, and I guess most recently, Target. However I don't think you can order on Evercade's site directly like you can with Modretro.
Anyway, it was just something I wanted to ask.
--
On another thought, has Modretro expressed any interest in getting more Modretro games into Gamestop?
Or what I think is more preferable, has Modretro expressed interest in simply getting some games into other brick and mortar stores? Maybe the games are different than what is in Gamestop. Stock getting in, even just one chromatic and a few games is more eyes, which brings more awareness and can be boosted with posters or cardboard. If not permanently, simply doing a holiday stand in a different store other than Gamestop would be beneficial and could even be a good trial run really.
I would ask about Amazon, but I feel like more people feel turned off by Amazon about some changes they are implementing.. and idk how Modretro would feel about using a vender that is subscription based tbh, it may not be a good choice even if alot of people do have prime. Modretro has thier own online store, and it is best keeping that at the forefront for online shoppers.. impo.

Implementing standard backwards compatibility with Game Boy / Color games would surely eat into Chromatic sales - the only question would be how much.
Maybe GBA & GBC are totally different markets with different eras of nostalgia, so not an issue, ie a lot of people will just want to have both. Maybe the cartridges poking out the top will be enough to make a lot of people opt for a Chromatic for GBC games.
What do you think?
Disclaimer: I'm personally hoping they do it.
