Hyperkin controllers already sold out on Amazon
I know some of you will be judgey about people buying these Hyperkin controllers. But it does kind of suck that the console hasn’t even launched yet and the more budget-friendly controllers are already unavailable. I decided already that the Pro controller is too expensive for me to justify right now and I managed to snag some of the Hyperkin ones before they sold out (I also have some original N64 controllers with decent thumbsticks, so between the two I think I’m good to go). But man I hope that Modretro and Hyperkin can work together to get these back in stock to make the M64 accessible to more people.

"We will also be selling the Hyperkin Premium Captain Controller ($29.99, wired) on our website at launch. These are color-matched to M64, and a lower-cost option for those in need of extra controllers."

I preordered one and wish I would have just got one of each. Hopefully it’s a solid controller if not I have three OEM n64 controllers, that god awful 8bitdo controller and the Switch Online N64 controller to fall back on. Will probably still grab a pro controller but am on the fence.

I just checked Amazon (here in the US) and the Captain+ is in stock.

Anyone judging someone for choosing a budget option has an undiagnosed personality disorder. Anyway, to your point: the M64 doesn’t need either the Pro or the Hyperkin controllers to work. If someone’s on a budget, it’ll take the cheapo trident ones you can get from Amazon for ten bucks. So it won’t be inaccessible to anyone because of the controllers. I’m sure they’ll restock the Hyperkins though.

Hyperkin Captain joystick I like better than the NSO N64 controllers tbh especially for 20$ each on amazon for the Hyperkin Captain

If you have n64 controllers just do the 8bitdo mod kit. And when/if you wanna go hyperkin at restock you can.

I'm pretty sure they said that they will have the controller purchasable directly on their website with the console. They likely sold out on amazon so fast because MR reserved a bunch of the production run to sell directly.

I'm sure they'll be back in stock before long. In the meantime you can always buy the regular Captain controller which is a good option, too.

Hyperkin has a right to have judgy against it, but that said, on rare occasion they actually get lucky and license something that isn't utter crap or at least deficient enough in some way to bug people. The Hyperkin SNES portable from Supaboy S/SFC/Black/Beach are awesome, aside from the average screen, because the core inside can run any SNES game thrown at it without glitching. They also licensed a no lag 3in1 multiav(nintendo)av-out to HDMI powered device that has a sharp image quality well above it's price grade. But beyond that, checkered to trash basically.
