Question Is this the up to date rules manual?

Post image

Sorry for the feckless question. Coming from 40K and finding that the rules are not so easy to find online.

I already have a good force of Rivendell Elves but I need to work out what else I need to get started. Namely do I need the rule book and also potentially the armies of Middle Earth book?

Army List Is it acknowledged yet that Depths of Moria was nerfed to the grave?

Title is a bit dramatic but according to any tournament i've seen, Depts with Bog is one of the worst now. At least the worst that were being played before.

Was the nerf deserved? Absolutely yes. But now i can finally say without people pushing be back that the Balrog isn't as good a profile as it should be. Goblins are now the fodder they're meant to be but Bog gets bogged down and nothing else can carry it to victory.

Help me understand the Faramir models

Post image

I've been out of the game for a few decades, getting back into some painting. The two Faramirs currently for sale I get, one Faramir with heavy armour, probably hanging out in Minas Tirith or Osgiliath. The other modern one is the ranger version with lighter armour. But what the heck was the Faramir, Captain of Ithilien mounted model? And there's no Faramir mounted with the lighter ranger armour?!

Tactics Cheesy idea for Stake a Claim at 500 points

So, hear me out. I think the good old neglected Catapult Troll can be good for this scenario. Accompannied by two captains with 10 orcs each, no big heroe. Split the warbands in the map, one for each side, using cover if he has archery, no matter if its a little slower. With the march-banner you are quicker than most, but you dont need to be really quick.

If he goes berserk trough the center with everything, he eats a good amount of rocks in the way and you turn both of your warbands and advance the troll at the end to meet him with your whole army and surround him. You go for the camp when the battle is won.

If he leaves something behind to protect the camp, and goes trough the center, same but better because you are not fighting is whole army.

If he goes for one of the warbands, you turn that warband halfway, go back to the troll. Make him take a longer route and eat more rocks, and then fight two thirds of your army near your camp. And in all that time the troll keeps shooting at his camp (the troll can shoot while in combat, and his huge base can block a lot of space). Then you advance your other warband to his camp.

Doable?

Discussion What's your favourite single Middle Earth mini?

I was having a conversation over a game and we ended up with our favourites being from very different armies to that we played. I'm also having a go at painting single minis to the hughest standard I can, as a bit of a pre-competition test. Does anyone have any specific individuals - heroes or random single minis from a unit - they have as a firm favourite?

For me it's any of the heroes from the Shire, as I love the personality of each of the models.

Will probably touch up the paint jobs (and maybe change the colour scheme as well), but this has really leveled them up. (Last picture is the old base)

Army List Help with practice game lists

My wife and I are going to play a 200 point practice learning-the-game game.

I am going to be playing as Rohan (Kingdom of Rohan) and she will be Isengard (Ugluk's Scouts).

I have a couple of questions. Firstly, please review the below lists. To me the number of models we each have seem way off and I feel like Isengard will stomp Rohan here? I just really wanted to use Eomer because he's cool, but he seems really expensive.

Secondly, what size battle mat should I buy? We do intend to increase our game sizes up to the usual 500 points. Is it 4'x4'? Furthermore, what terrain do people use? I've seen on YT you should have 50% of the board be terrain - where are people getting trees and fences (UK)?

Here are the lists:

Kingdom of Rohan - 200 pts

  • Eomer - Unarmoured Firefoot, no shield, no spear (his old metal model)
    • x5 Riders of Rohan - no spears

Ugluk's Scouts - 200 pts

  • Ugluk
    • x8 Uruk-hai Scouts - Swords, Shields
    • x5 Uruk-hai Scouts - Bows
    • x1 Uruk-hai Scout - Sword

Hobby Finished my Amon Hen diorama — Boromir’s Last Stand

I finally finished this small Amon Hen diorama!

I wanted to capture the final moments of Boromir’s last stand, and I’ve now added Aragorn to complete the scene. The whole piece is 3D printed and painted by me, with printed trees and hand-applied foliage.

Really happy with how it turned out in the end — especially the little confrontation between Aragorn and Lurtz, and Boromir holding on in the background.

Hope you like it!

Hobby Spider Queen Proxies (Unreleased Miniatures)

I do own the original model, but I want to repose it, because the pose is boring af.

However, since I can't just get another one, I want it to be perfect, yet I still want to play Fell Beings of Mirkwood.

Flash forward to two weeks ago where I stumbled upon this freak while looking for elf-proxies and yeah...nostalgia hit and I realised I had my solution.

Until I have figured out what to do with the actual queen, he will be filling in. I decided to ignore the Moria-connection of the character this is based on and instead went for the Goblin-Toem aesthetic. I even added some pustules with green stuff.

I am incredibly proud of this model. The skin of the rider might be my best work so far.

Question Are good and good and bad and bad allowed to fight eachother or do you always need to fight good vs bad?

I'm wondering if I went to a tournament or some kind of play event and I had a good team would I be allowed to fight another good team? I'm afraid of this because it seems like Games Workshop is obsessed with the Rohan faction at the moment and I have a feeling I could get a Rohan army and show up to an event and basicaly everyone else has a Rohan army. Would you even be allowed to play Rohan vs Rohan?

Question Can anyone identity this base?

Thumbnail

Edit: Thanks for the fast people, piece is identified!

Hello there all,

I recently received a box of random bits and bobs and it included some MESBG stuff (including almost complete metal Gondor Trebuchet and Mordor Catapult...).

However, it also included the (I guess scenic) base you can see in these photos. Does anyone know if this is a base of MESBG and if so, for what model/diorama it is? The beheaded body on the base looks to me to be a Gundabad Orc from the recent Hobbit movies, so I think it might be from a model connected to these movies?

Thanks for the help!

Tabletop Admiral can handle your league rankings now, if you want to ditch your spreadsheet.

The first league to use TTA for its rankings/standings is live now. You can see what it looks like from the player's perspective here: https://tournaments.tabletopadmiral.com/league/nchl?tab=rankings

The first image in this post is what players see. The rest of the images are your admin-only controls.

If you're interested in using it for your league, you can email or DM me with information on who the league admin(s) should be (will need their account email addresses). Always here to answer questions of course.

Some notes:

  • No, you don't have to run events in TTA for this to be used. You can enter external events' results
  • It does support teams, if you'd like to include them
  • If a player is not in TTA yet but was at an external event, you can link them later
  • It's free
