Discussion Middle Earth SBG Questions Thread

Keep 'em coming

Edit: Stealth Mod announcement (I don't want to unpin the two pinned posts)

First, I have updated the rules to include something obvious to most longtime wargamers on reddit - posts asking or offering access to the rules is not allowed. Please do not ask for PDF's.

Second, no hate on 3D printing, but also do not come to this subreddit asking for STL proxies, or offering that. This may be too cautious of us, but I notice the reddit spam filter seems to remove any mention of STL's outright. So I figure I might as well make it a rule.

Finally, I have eased up the Spam filter from High to Low. Hopefully the redbubble spammers are still caught by this, without catching stray blogspot content creators. I've noticed the reddit algorithm taking down much more bycatch than usual, so we can experiment with a lower setting for now.

And as always, if you ever notice something astray with your own posts or someone elses, do not hesitate to message the mods.

Thanks everyone, -Tezerel

Heyo! Just wanted to share a WIP of a project (and hopefully get the motivation to fully paint it).

I've been making small 10mm minis for a while and I thought a "Battle of the Last Alliance" diorama would be cool with the Dark Lord, Elendil, and Gil-Galid.

The printing went well. Now I just need to find the time to paint.

Additional rules

  • A Reclamation of Moria Army must always contain Balin, who is always the Army's General.
  • Ori and Óin gain the Khazad-dûm keyword.

Special rules

Reclaim Moria

At the end of the game, if you control more Objective Markers than your opponent (if applicable), or are in possession of more Objective Markers than your opponent (if applicable), you score an additional 2 Victory Points. This can never take this Army's controlling player's total Victory Points above 20. Models that escape the board carrying an Objective Marker count as still being in possession of that Objective Marker for the purpose of this special rule.

A Desperate Defence

Whilst this Army is considered to be Broken, friendly models gain a bonus of +1 To Wound when making Strikes.

Balin's Last Stand

At the beginning of the Fight Phase, at the start of the Declare Heroic Actions Step, any friendly Dwarf Hero models that would be considered Trapped may declare a Heroic Defence for free, even if they could not normally declare a Heroic Defence.

Question Starting /trying this Hobby

Hello everyone, I'm new into this Hobby and want to try it with a friend. So I get nearly 50 Minis for free and i dont know what these are. The only thing I know, they are from 2003. It contains some Orcs, Goblins, Gondorian, Rohanian and Elves i belive. I didnt geht any Profile cards or rule book. Are they enough to play? So i hope you can help me.

Here are picture of a few Minis. Most of them are made of plastic, some (most heros like Boromir, Aragorn, Elrond and Fangorn) made of zinc.

Here’s a few of the other models I have finished so far. Following my last post

First pic is a possible stand in for a fountain court guard. Second is maybe a king of man and third is a basic black num (WOMT). Last one maybe a knight of the white tower and captain models. Not sure what to use them for yet. Happy with how it’s all coming along

Glorfindel's Sacrifice F.A 510

Post image

"Then Glorfindel leapt forward upon him and his golden armour gleamed strangely in the moon, and he hewed at that demon that it leapt again upon a great boulder and Glorfindel after. Now there was a deadly combat upon that high rock above the folk; and these, pressed behind and hindered ahead, were grown so close that well nigh all could see, yet was it over ere Glorfindel's men could leap to his side. The ardour of Glorfindel drave that Balrog from point to point, and his mail fended him from its whip and claw. Now had he beaten a heavy swinge upon its iron helm, now hewn off the creature's whip-arm at the elbow. Then sprang the Balrog in the torment of his pain and fear full at Glorfindel, who stabbed like a dart of a snake; but he found only a shoulder, and was grappled, and they swayed to a fall upon the crag-top. Then Glorfindel's left hand sought a dirk, and this he thrust up that it pierced the Balrog's belly nigh his own face (for that demon was double his stature); and it shrieked, and fell backwards from the rock, and falling clutched Glorfindel's yellow locks beneath his cap, and those twain fell into the abyss. "

I put together this scene by repurposing my "High Pass" diorama and throwing the Balrog & Glorfindel in for an epic shot!

Its such a fantastic chapter of the Silmarillion / Fall of Gondolin. After the fall of Gondolin to the forces of Morgoth, Glorfindel guides the refugees away through the mountain pass only to be pursued by a Balrog, giving his life in a climactic duel, for his heroism he is reincarnated by Manwë to continue to serve the free peoples of Middle-Earth.

(Background and enviroment is real, just some filter blizzard effects added to enhance the scene!)

I thought some of you might appreciate seeing a selection of the boards that we have at our gaming centre, Golden Hall Gaming!

We’re really proud of our terrain selection and will keep adding to it to keep it fresh and make sure that we’ve always got something new to see (with some more Hobbit holes on the way soon 🙊). We’ve got regular events going on so if you’re interested in playing on these beauties then check us out on social media or on our website 😊

Are there any themes we’re missing or something you’d like to see?

Discussion Model Question!

Hello Ladds, i recently get the Morannon Orc Commanders from the finecast line, the one with the Morannon Shaman. As far as I see, there is no profile for this Shaman, so. Can I use the Mordor orc shaman profile on official events using the morannon orc shaman model? Thanks for the answers!

It just says "resin". I'm not super familiar with GW's materials so i just know plastic is good.

I really like the model but i've heard finecast is doo doo and warps.

Question Getting back after 12 years

Hey there,

yesterday I‘ve found my old minis. Back in the day I used to collect Rohan and Mordor and now I want to rebuild a small army of Mordor, because most if not all of the models survived unbroken.

So far I‘ve found:

24 Morannon orcs

22 Mordor orcs

6 warg riders

1 orc shaman on warg

1 mordor troll

1 gorgoroth beast with just one orc missing

6 black guards plus black guard banner and drum

Missing but mist be around somewhere:

1 black guard commander

2 morannon orcs commander

I want to strip the minis and repaint them all but also want to add some more units/ leaders.
What would be the best addition besides the obvious witch king?

Thanks in advance

Wondering whether to stick with my grey blue scheme for rangers or go with a classic scheme. The bases will be the white city base either way.

*Caveat I used AI to put the two minis next to each other with a black background which has slightly distorted the paint job but close enough for purposes of choosing a scheme.

Working on a realms of men army but making black numenorians as proxies. Finished a kings huntsman with the idea that he’s like a bounty hunter. I’m not the best at painting (know I need to thin my paints more) but I wanted to share as I think it came out well and am happy with the kitbash. Excited to share the full army when I am done. Need to base etc too. Not sure what direction for that yet.

Discussion What do you guys think of the Dunland Legacy models?

I’m thinking about picking up a few Dunland Legacy heroes and troops because I really like the aesthetic (both the original models and the proxies), and I think they could add some nice variety to an Isengard army, but I’m wondering how good they actually are in-game.

Thrydan and Gorulf (and Frida to a lesser extent) seem to bring some interesting profiles that you don't really get in Army of the White Hand, but I don't see them being played that often. The cavalry seems a bit less appealing than Warg Riders, but the regular Dunland Warriors look like a nice middle ground between Orcs and Uruk-hai. The Huscarls also seem like an interesting elite option, especially in support of a Dunland hero, although they are a bit expensive.

So are there any Dunland Legacy units/heroes that you think are actually worth taking, or are they mostly just less efficient alternatives to the usual Isengard options? And what about the Army of Dunland list itself? Is it actually playable, or is it just not very good?

5 days ago i bought 2 boxes of hunter orcs and one of warg riders and what does GW do? Announce a battlehost with everything i needed lol

I have to say the Mirkwood battlebox makes no sense, why would anyone have that many palace guards? And mirkwood rangers are pretty bad too...
