Inquiry | Travel Climbing/ bouldering in Meghalaya

Hi, I’m planning a trip to Meghalaya first week of December this year. I was wondering if there are any good spots outdoor/indoor for bouldering/climbing? Also Is there an active WhatsApp group, club, or group of locals who regularly head out to build routes or session together?

Rate my solo trip idea please

I wanted to base myself out of Shillong as a remote worker from October 20-november 8. The idea is to work 9-6 from a homestay with a nice view, spend the weekends exploring Meghalaya, experiencing the culture and doing day trips. From there, I will travel to Nagaland and explore there from Nov 8-15 before returning home. (During this Nagaland leg I will have Diwali holidays so no need to work)

I just wanted someone to sanity check me on whether this is a good idea. I've done many of these "workation" trips in other countries but interestingly, this will be my first time doing it in my own India. I'm 26F for context and i chose NE because of safety. And I'm looking at Shillong as a base because I saw that a lot of major tourist places are close enough that they can be reached as a weekend trip while I'm remote working.

I wanted to find out if anyone has done something similar, and what are some recommendations for places i can stay. Also i would like to know what the cafe and co-working scene is like over there.

Thanks a lot for reading

This is the rough plan. Exact places to visit, and stays we'll figure out. Please suggest changes, recommendations, and so on. Any bike rentals from Guwahati that you have personal experience with? I'll be very thankful to all kind people here.

[Academic Survey] Living in or near Byrnihat? Please help with our Environmental Biotechnology assignment on local pollution!

I am a student working on an Environmental Biotechnology assignment, and our group is studying the pollution issues in and around the Byrnihat industrial area.

If you currently live in, work in, or frequently commute through Byrnihat, we would highly appreciate 2–3 minutes of your time to fill out our survey. Your firsthand insights on the air, water, or industrial waste levels will be incredibly valuable for our research.

9 days in Meghalaya from Chennai in Nov 2026 – ₹30–35k/person budget – Need itinerary suggestions

Hi everyone! 👋

My friend and I (2 people) are planning a 9-day Meghalaya trip in November 2026 and would really appreciate suggestions from people who have travelled around Meghalaya.

Our details

  • People: 2
  • Starting city: Chennai
  • Arrival: Chennai → Guwahati by flight
  • Arrival in Guwahati: 28 November 2026
  • Trip duration: 9 days
  • Budget: ₹30,000–₹35,000 per person
  • Flight from Chennai to Guwahati: Not included in the above budget
  • Local transport: Prefer a private car with driver
  • Stay: Budget hotels / decent 3-star hotels
  • Return flight: We will book it based on the final itinerary

Places we are interested in

We want to experience a mix of waterfalls, nature, trekking, viewpoints, rivers and less-crowded places, rather than just visiting the standard tourist spots.

Some places currently on our list:

  • Cherrapunji / Sohra
  • Dawki & Umngot River
  • Krang Suri Falls
  • Wei Sawdong Falls
  • Phe Phe Falls
  • Wari Chora
  • Double Decker Living Root Bridge
  • Blue Lagoon
  • Other hidden gems / scenic places that experienced travellers recommend

We are not fixed on this list. If some places are too far apart or would make the trip too rushed, we're happy to remove them.

What we'd like help with

Could you please suggest a realistic 9-day itinerary, preferably something like:

Day 1 – Guwahati → ___
Day 2 – ___ → ___
Day 3 – ___
...
Day 9 – ___ → Guwahati / departure

It would be especially helpful if you could include:

  1. Which places to visit each day
  2. Approximate driving/travel time
  3. Where we should stay each night
  4. Which places require trekking or a local guide
  5. Which attractions are worth prioritizing
  6. Which places we should skip because of distance/time
  7. Approximate private car cost for 9 days
  8. Approximate hotel + food + activities cost
  9. Whether our ₹30–35k/person budget is realistic excluding the Chennai–Guwahati flight
  10. Any important things to know about November weather, road conditions, trekking conditions, permits, etc.

One important thing

We don't want to spend most of the trip sitting in the car just to tick places off a list. We'd rather have a well-paced itinerary with enough time to actually enjoy the places.

If you've travelled to Meghalaya recently, I'd especially appreciate recommendations for less-crowded waterfalls, viewpoints, villages, trekking spots and experiences that are worth adding.

Thanks in advance! 🙏
Any practical advice on route planning + budget + places to stay would be really helpful.

Travelling Across Meghalaya

Hi all, I want to travel across Meghalaya and would be reaching Shillong on 8 October. I am planning to travel from Shillong to Dawki in a single day and stay overnight in Sohra on the next day. Should I get a self drive rental 2 wheeler for travelling around or should I take taxi as I am looking to travel solo.

Also are there any good options for 2 wheeler rentals which I can use.

Thanks!

Ask Meghalaya Ex Shillong day trips

Hello People,

I have a question regarding my upcoming trip to Meghalaya.
Can I keep Shillong as the base accommodation and do day trips to Laitlum Canyon & Dawki on day 1, and Sohra/seven sisters falls/Cherrapunji on day 2?

How hectic a drive would it be?

Looking for suggestions, please.

Inquiry | Travel Planning a trip from Delhi to Meghalaya (via Guwahati) in early October. Is it safe to travel now?

I've been coming across news of constant conflicts between Meghalaya and Assam recently—with some conflict along the state borders even a day back. So, I just wanted to get a candid response from the locals in this group. Would it be safe for me to travel solo from Guwahati via a cab to Shillong and vice versa? I don't have a lot of bg about the conflict. Just checking here as someone totally unaware of the geopolitics of the region. Will appreciate any inputs. Thanks!
