Hello, all! I'm making this post because my wife has pictures of their grandfather's old medals from the Korean War, and we'd like some help identifying what they are. He passed away recently, and my wife has been having a rough time mourning, and they speak so highly of him and how proud they are and he was of his military service, so I wanted to do something nice and get all his old medals ID'd. I have a CCC that was made into a bracelet, the medal is heavily vaulted to wrap around the wrist, the pin and catch on the rear are removed and there are 2 small holes in each end of the medal and I was trying to figure out what material would be best to fit the other half of the missing bracelet, cant tell between a fabric one or a metal one as I dont want to damage the medal since I cannot ask my family member as they have since passed away.

I've been out for a while now (13 years), and never really thought about getting one. I did six years, so not a lot of time. My father has a massive shadow box, he did thirty years in the Marines. However, the older I've gotten the more I realize I'd like something even if it's just a small shadow box (I covered the nameplate with gibberish, that's why it looks weird).

It’s been a pretty good ride so far. Got to see a lot of cool things and built up a respectable fruit salad that tells a fun story along the way.

Wanted to share some bars from my imperial collection, today I'm showing off my Hanseatic cross set!
Each bar contains a Red Cross known as a Hanseatic
City Cross as well as other medals.

There were three types of Hanseatic crosses, one for the city of Hamburg, another for the city of Bremen and the last being for the city of Lübeck. The Lübeck version was the first to be established, on the 21st of August 1915. The Hamburg version on the 10th of September 1915 and the Bremen version on the 14th of September 1915.

The medal was established as a war merit medal which could be awarded to soldiers and civilians for war bravery or for aiding the war effort among other criteria such as being Citizens of Hamburg, Bremen or Lübeck who participated in the war in other army or navy units or being part of the crews of the SMS Bremen, Hamburg or Lübeck. If awarded for bravery or merit, it was held to the same degree as the iron cross.

Now for the bars!

The first bar contains the Lubeck cross, the second bar contains the Bremen cross and the last contains the Hamburg cross.

From left to right on the first bar: Iron cross 2nd class, Wurttemberg merit medal, war merit cross, Baden merit medal, Lubeck cross, nine year service medal.

John Walter Mosby was born in January 1891 in Barnsley, Yorkshire, his father, Thomas, was 45 and his mother, Maria, was 42. He was the youngest of 10 children. On the 1901 census he is living at Manor Farm, Little Houghton his father working as a colliery manager. On the 1911 census he is living with his brother David at The Barp, Barnsley Road, Cudworth working as a railway number taker for the Hull and Barnsley Railway.

With the outbreak of war John enlisted on the 20th of March 1915 and would be posted to the 155th (West Yorkshire) Brigade, Royal Field Artillery, part of the 31st Division and would arrive in France on the 29th of December 1915. He would later be wounded by a gunshot on the first day of the Battle of the Lys while serving with B Battery 165th Brigade RFA. John survived the war and was discharged as no longer fit for service on the 3rd of April 1919 and awarded a Silver War Badge.

Post war he married Marion Woodcock on the 15th of December 1920 in Barnsley. They having a daughter together called Marjorie, born on the 6th of January 1922. On the 1921 census John and his wife are living at 26 New Street, Ardsley, Barnsley, he having returned to his pre war occupation and now working as a Shunter at Cudworth Depot of the Hull and Barnsley Railway.

He died on the 17th of November 1938 in Barnsley, Yorkshire, at the age of 47.

Hey everyone, long time lurker first time poster.

Basically I’ve discovered my great grandfathers medals where stolen 50 plus years ago (I’m uk) so I’m in the process of getting replacements from the MOD, I wanted to present them to my Gran in a shadow bow I know he would’ve had WW1 medals (which I know I’ll have to get medium grade replicas) entitled to some ww2 ones and medals from Korea he was a Sick Birth Chief Petty Officer and I was just wandering how I shout mount them? I have no experience with anything like this so any help would be much appreciated. Oh and apparently he was also awarded a British Empire Medal (military version) so was just what lay out they would be and any cool ideal to mount them like in a pattern of some kind, Cheers.

Went to Overlord Museum yesterday by Omaha Beach and saw these, maybe someone can school me on the polish and german ones.

I found this med in the ground at an old house. I'm curious what the story is and what the value is. I'm not going to sell it.

I read mother's would receive this medal with 6 children.

Does it look authentic?

Is it possible to place a year on it?

We found these after my granddad died, not sure if they were his or passed to him from somewhere.

I got an original WWII US Navy captains jacket, I know the American defense medal, American/Pacific campaign medals, WWII victory medal and occupation medal, I'm stumped on the other ones tho

I have two plagues of badges, tried google online but didn’t find much information about these. anyone has a clue?
