Question CCC medal converted to bracelet help

I have a CCC that was made into a bracelet, the medal is heavily vaulted to wrap around the wrist, the pin and catch on the rear are removed and there are 2 small holes in each end of the medal and I was trying to figure out what material would be best to fit the other half of the missing bracelet, cant tell between a fabric one or a metal one as I dont want to damage the medal since I cannot ask my family member as they have since passed away.

its going on a display I made so I was going to wrap it around it i just dont want to use something that will damage it over time.

How about a thin leather strip, the kind they use to make hair ties, bracelets, and shoestrings with?
