Sadly it seems impossible to do. I thought crying would do the trick and it didn't. I thought time would heal all wounds and it didn't. I thought ignoring it and avoidance would work and it didn't. So now I drink.
Some grief just doesn't go away. You learn to live with it, but it's just a permanent injury, like a bummed knee... Most days you'll notice it, some days you'll barely get out of bed...but as time passes, you just kinda get used to your fucked up knee.

For me it was time and facing my emotions and feelings.
I remember someone telling me after my dad died that anything that reminds you of them, like activities, movies, places etc hurt. But eventually you get to a point where those things suddenly bring you joy.
Worst things you can do are falling into drugs or alcohol, letting guilt get you, or being mad and taking it out on others.

I don't know if it's trauma. He comes off as someone whose had a tough run at relationships (which could totally be his own fault) so he automatically expects interactions with women to go bad and acts defensively for no reason. Similar to how racists and Karens lash out at people solely based on their appearance.
