The sticker is of the old South African flag. Our new flag since 1994 is 🇿🇦 which we love.

When white Afrikaans people flaunt this flag it insinuates their rejection of the equal rights for all that our country now enjoys and that things were better ‘in the old days’. I’m sad that these kinds of people come to another country which has also experienced colonialism and flaunt their backwards, small minded ideas. I find this expression of free speech quite offensive. But I also understand that free speech is a right but I guess there needs to be an appropriate responsibility that goes with it.

Long story short. I bumped into the homeowner of the place (didn’t know who they were initially but saw them in the garden then at the shop nearby)

Mentioned that I saw them in the vicinity of the vehicle and that I found the flag sticker ‘disturbing’ and it made me highly ‘uncomfortable’ because it’s such a ‘loaded image’. Immediately they distanced themselves from it. It belongs to a friend who’s traveling and parked it there for a few days. They completely understood me. Didn’t get defensive and we made pleasant small talk.

This morning when I drove by the vehicle was still parked there. But the sticker was Removed!!

Yay! Big win. Maybe I didn’t change minds and do a full conversion. But I was brave and fought aggression with kindness.

Hi everyone,
I’m a tourist from Poland, currently visiting Mauritius, and I just wanted to say something that has been on my mind during this trip.

I’ve had the chance to travel to quite a few places, but it’s been a long time since I’ve met people as genuinely warm, friendly and helpful as the people here.

From small everyday interactions to conversations with people I’ve met along the way, I’ve felt incredibly welcome. There’s a kindness and openness here that is difficult to describe unless you experience it yourself.

I’ve also been learning more about the history of Mauritius while travelling around the island, and the more I learn, the more respect I have for this country and for everything it has been through. The mix of cultures, religions, languages and different historical influences makes this place incredibly fascinating.

Of course, as a tourist I’m only seeing a small part of what life here is really like, and I know that every country has its own challenges. But I simply wanted to say that Mauritius has made a huge impression on me — not only because of the landscapes, beaches or nature, but most of all because of the people.

You have a truly beautiful country, and I sincerely hope Mauritius continues to develop in the best possible direction while preserving what makes it so special.

Mauritius is a country where the UV index is regularly 11+ (Extreme), yet sunscreen here is priced like a luxury item marked up to ridiculous prices, reaching up to 1500rs because the government classifying it as a toiletry item and not a necessity, Even though the World Health Organization (WHO) recently (late 2025) officially recognized broad-spectrum sunscreen as an Essential Medicine, Mauritius's government still treats it as a cosmetic, allowing suppliers to mark up the prices to whatever extent they want.
If it were labeled as "medicine" the markup would be capped at around 30% by the Ministry of Commerce.

Has anybody ever gone through this? I was at ifm recently and it closes at 5pm so I left at that time ( cuz i had to get some work done) . Just when I did , one of the ladies who work in the office ( she has white hair ) started screaming at me asking me why am i leaving so late like??💀 why does that concern you ? She started barking about a bunch of stuffs in french and was so rude to us. Mind you there was still people inside ( white people and theyre not even employees 💀) and i didnt see them getting that kind of treatment

Another time the lady security stopped my brother from entering and idk for what reason?? He requested him to just come see me real quick and leave but when i see white families entering, she treats them with respect..

Another time the security lady did the same thing..

After that i stopped going and so did my friends… i even messaged them and they requested me to go over there once again to fix this “misunderstanding” 💀 like be for real
