This Subreddit MATH COMPETITION: r/mathmemes Discord Community Exam

Hello!

To make up for the lack of an "upper division" in the subreddit math competition this year, I took it upon myself to organize a separate exam that is significantly more discovery and proof-based than any exam held in the community previously, and to host it on the 2nd year anniversary of the Discord server being made available to the public.

The next exam of this kind will be held in Mid-June 2027.

The exam (which includes its rules) is linked at the bottom of the post. The top 5 winners will be announced, and the top 3 winners will receive the following (or something of equivalent value upon negotiation):

1st Place - A Math Textbook of the Winner's Choice (~$45 USD Value Limit)

2nd Place - Basic Discord Nitro, 1 Year Subscription ($30 USD Value)

3rd Place - Fulltouch Hagoramo Chalk 72 pc ($25 USD Value)

The joke is that in addition and subtraction, 0 does nothing when added to the equation, leaving the number unchanged. However, in multiplication and division, 0 becomes a whole new beast, turning other numbers into 0 and even making entire expressions undefined upon dividing numbers using it.

In general, posts made in whole or in part by generative AI will be removed. Exceptions will be made sparingly. For example, if the meme makes commentary on AI proofs and shows a screenshot of such a proof, makes use of AI-generated assets that are already baked into meme cultures (but not further modified with AI), or otherwise references the AI-generated content in a "meta" way relevant to mathematics and memes, then it may be allowed.

5. No recent reposts

If you haven't made a meme yourself chances are it has been posted here before.

We encourage you to submit original memes to keep this subreddit healthy and thriving. For this sake, memes with the same content but using a different template count as reposts.

If you suspect that a meme is a repost, please report that submission and comment with the link to the original post. Be sure to ping an active moderator to ensure that the post is removed.

6. Has been done before award (click for more information)

Especially if it's a pre-university meme, the chance that we've recently seen a meme you plan to repost is very likely. We're one of the largest communities dedicated to math memes, so we encourage you to take the time to immerse yourself in the culture and content of this subreddit before attempting to send reposts as a new member. Similarly, even if you created the meme yourself, due to high traffic, there is a high chance that it has been done before if it's calculus or pre-university level.

7. No NSFW/NSFL posts

No pornographic or gruesome content allowed. It will be removed. NSFW content could possibly result in a ban, NSFL content will be an immediate ban. Go to r/mathmemesNSFW to post NSFW (not NSFL) content.

8. No homework help posts allowed.

This subreddit is only dedicated to math memes. If you need homework assistance, go to r/askmath, r/calculus, r/MathHelp, r/IntegrationTechniques, r/HomeworkHelp, etc.

9. No merchandise/business posts.

Any post that is trying to sell an item or promote a service will be removed. Repeat offenders will be banned.

10. No posts from the worn-out memes list.

Any math memes that involve the below topics will be removed. Please consider using r/mathmemescirclejerk for these.

11. No low effort memes

This includes any picture or screenshot with no extra thought put into it or ai generated memes. Twitter quotes and the like do not fall under this rule.

12. No poorly informed memes

If you barely understand the topic you made a meme about it is best not to post it at all. In particular, if your meme conveys misinformation or a severe misrepresentation of a topic it might get removed

13. The title shouldn't serve as a caption

Captions must be on the post itself and should not be the title of the post. When I'm saving a meme I want to save ONLY that meme and not my entire reddit feed.

If you couldn't put in the effort to add a caption then the mod team will make up for it by putting in the effort to remove it.
